I only paid 800 bucks for it. It is a Ford Escort. I like cheap cars that are in excellent condition. As you look at the top picture, you'll notice my Chevrolet Bread Box is the ONLY POS with the hood raised. The rest are Ford products that are "ready to roll."

Josh and I rode that "Bread Box" to Texas...that is the most uncomfortable pile of crap to ride and drive I ever had. I hate that thing. In addition to being a gas hog, it does not have enough power to pull a sick prostitute off a commode.

All my Ford products have plenty of power. Even that little red Mercury Topaz in the picture. That thing will pull that hill in Vantage, WA at 80mph without losing ground.

Anyway, here are two pictures of my 800 dollar special....

I might get the most dubious award thread on Film-Tech for posting this, but oh, well...what the hell...just something to plug up Brad's server. [evil]

Now to make this thread more dubious, I knocked over a 16-oz can of Busch Beer and most of it went into the keyboard. The computer immediately figured something was wrong and signed me off from AOL and promptly shut itself down. Beer makes an excellent conductor. Windows 2000 Pro must have built this function in. Cool. However, I don't consider this a computer crash. [Big Grin]

I guess I'll have to buy a new keyboard tomorrow and throw the mouse pad away. [scream]

I had to borrow my other keyboard from my other machine to finish the edit of this thread. [Big Grin]

I hate to think what your insurance and registration bills look like with all those vehicles of yours! If you lived here in CA you'd have to sell your house to pay for those.

It's not all that bad ...for full coverage, on 2 vehicles, 1998 Corvette and 1996 Explorer Sport, I pay about $800 a year. Ummm.... for auto insurance that is...the vehicles are paid for... [Big Grin]

Danny, it is about 1400 bucks a year. I put the breadbox in suspense, so it is covered in event of fire and theft only. I do not plan on driving that thing anymore. Should I decide to drive it for one reason or another, I can pull it out of suspense and liability will be based on how many days I drive it. But to qualify for that, it has to be in suspense for a minimum of 30 days. I hate it that beast and will dump it as soon as I can.

Registration runs 38 bucks per year per car and about 48 bucks per vehicle on the breadbox and truck. That's not too bad.

What really frosts me is insurance is so damn high but yet I have a clean driving record. I only got fwapped with one speeding ticket in the last 15 years and that was 4 years ago.

Paul, where is the Chevy? I don't see any car with it's hood up? Also is the "bread box" the red car in the back ground?

Ron, I'm the only driver in a "2-car family"...thus the expensive liability insurance is much less since only one vehicle would be at that risk at a time.

No tickets or DUIs ...less than 15k miles on each per year. Having Alarms, LoJack, $1000 deductable, etc and having a Homeowner's policy all with the same company (Allstate) gives me an excellent rate.

William, The Chevrolet is that green thing in the background. However, the picture is small and you might not be able st see the short schnozola on it. The Chevrolet is the bread box because it looks like one.

OK so there see? I'm not the only one who ever spilt a beer into the keyboard. Mind you, the first night I came home after that, I found it in an alley passing a bottle in a paper bag around to other scruffy keyboards. I put it on a 12-key program and it recovered.

Seriously tho, what I did was to remove the cover and place it in a bath of water for about six hours, then dried it out with a hair dryer.

I am using it now, some several years later.

Cept on Thursday nights.

It goes to the meetings that night.

I thought the UK was bad for cars, My 1990 BMW 318 costs only £214 fully comprehensive to insure, and my Suzuki GSF600 bike only £400 fully comprehensive.

Maybe that makes up for the more expensive fuel we have to pay.

My 1991 Fiat Tempra 1.6 costs me £305 per year for only third party, fire and theft (given that the car is to all intents and purposes worthless, I can't see any point in insuring it fully comp), and that's with 7 years' no claims. The figure has been rising for the last four years. I'm told that the premiums keep going up to pay for the accidents caused by people who were uninsured. If that's true then IMHO there's something very wrong here, if you ask me...

Per, in Washington State, we just pay sales tax on the purchase. The sales tax percentage is the same as buying anything else. Up here, it is around 8.*, depending on the county. Some states (two I think) don't have sales tax, but they get hammered in licensing fees. Some states are even cheaper on the tax percentage and some are also cheaper in registration fees.

Our license fees were based on 2% of the fair market value of the rig. Thanks to the tax revolt we had, it is now a flat rate of 30 bucks plus about 8 bucks for title transfer in most counties. Pick-up trucks are a little higher.

It is my understanding that our neighboring state to the south (Oregon) really gets slammed on license fees. But Oregon does not have a state sales tax like we do. Just a state income tax. We don't have the state income tax.

In an 800 dollar purchase, the total (including sales tax, registration/title transfer fees and another horses's assed fee) was about 938 bucks.

Yes, the car is as good as it looks. The loover in the front was broken, but I replaced that myself for 25 bucks. Now it looks like a new car.

Insurance fees are a different story. Depending on where a person lives, it can be outragious.

Ford makes some pretty good engines and transmissions. However, I have owned three different Fords and from experience, Ford makes crappy suspension systems. Every one of the Fords I have owned (most reciently a 97 Escort) have developed some kind of suspension problem.

Maybe Your taxmoney does not go to supporting thousands of thousands of "fugitives of convenience" who comes to You to make nothing but trouble. It sure looks like our government think, they impress bigger countries by giving our whole land away - and that is more expensive, than we can afford !

Well - congrats with the nice extra extra car. Next must be buying a closed drive-in for private parking purposes [Big Grin]
