Just for fun. I am on my fourth bottle of this great stuff and my entire film collection is saved and gleaming! I tried it on a LP record I was about to transfer and although an un-authorized use, the results were amazing. Surface noise was reduced to almost zero and the s/n ratio was near perfect; top end still ace. Cleans & renews my reading glasses too. Don't try this at home! [Razz]

I hope you're kidding about using it on reading glasses, that's where the Rosco lens cleaner and tissue comes in.

I've found a great other use for FilmGuard. I use it on scratched DVDs<rental> and CDs. Just wipe on a very very small amount, like the amount you use on film, and most of the time any skipping problems with the disc will be gone.

The principle is the same as with base scratches on film. FG 'fills in' the indentation. I guess the issue is whether any of the liquid finds its way onto the CD or DVD player's lens and therefore causes problems further down the road by affecting its ability to read the data from the disc.

I used it to kill a wasp in the booth once. (mostly the FG immobilized it, so I could smack it with a CD case.)

I use Filmguard with my CinemaTour T-shirts to polish my cars. It even helps remove dents better than the "Ding-King"....

Manny, toss a few of your dirty sox in the washer and add pure FG. Not only will your sox smell somewhat better, they will slip onto your feet easier. An additional bonus, FG can lubricate the seals in your washing machine, and also the pump.

Use the whole quart. Brad will be happy.

OR JUST DRINK IT. Makes things slide right through...

Does anyone know what happens when you take film-guard internally?? Once I put too much FG on a cleaner and as I was mounting the cleaner, a few drops landed in my mouth. A couple of hours later I started feeling bad, I don't know if it was related.

In the Christie projector review Brad says that FG makes a good belt dressing.

I kind of agree with Phil. We probably breathe in more toxic garbage driving down the freeway than FG can give you. On the other hand FG will make you sick if you take it internally. (Unless you have built up tolerance to it like Bruce! [Big Grin]

You MAY have gotten enough to make you sick. I don't know for sure. I'm just guessing. On the other hand, if you got better after a while I don't think you have anything to worry about. Even if you went to the emergency room right when it happened, they probably would have told you to go home and rest and come back if you don't get better in a few hours.

I doubt there would be ANY lasting effects unless you drank a whole lot of the stuff.

Somebody already mentioned this but I will add that I tried the stuff on a couple of idlers off my Pentron tape recorder and it actually softened them up a little. Last I checked they haven't melted yet.

Sam, back when I was a kid, there was a "rubber rejuvinator" out there, which we used to clean & soften up capstan pinch rollers in cart and reel to reel machines. The stuff turned out to be nothing but Naptha.

I tried this tonight on a DVD that came from Netflix (I had already sent back another DVD of this (which was defective) they sent back one that looked like someone left it on a coffee table and used it as a coaster, now the disc won't play at all. Did I not do it right, Dan? (If anyone from Netflix is reading this, I will replace the DVD if necessary.)

Ask Adam Martin what he did. He has had success with it. I've never tried it myself. My guess is you put too much on.

You end up having to polish most of it off because it will bead up on the disc. Leave very little on the surface of the disc. It's one of those "keep trying until you figure out how it works best with your player" sort of things. If the scratches are too bad, it won't help at all. It does, however, work wonders cleaning the disc ... apply with a KimWipe and polish with another dry one. I don't worry about the "wipe from the center to the edge" business when using FilmGuard.

Maybe try to apply a coat, polish, reapply and polish again.

I cleaned a certain 12 reeler about 10 weeks ago with FG and ran it. I ran it again last night (on the same system/theatre) and didn't do anything other than splicing the heads and tails together again. Platter.
Theatre owner, again, commented on how quietly the film ran, and there are no black scratches in the image. I sat in the theatre for most of it. So fun being a patron now and then! [Smile]

I tried it with another disc (which was given to me, used, as a gift) it had one semi-major scratch which had rendered 5 minutes of the film unplayable. I put some FG on an old T-shirt, applied. It beaded up just like Adam said, I rubbed vigorously with a dry part of the shirt, whe finished I couldn't see the scratch anymore, i popped it into the DVD player, used the chapter menu to skip ahead to the scene. It played perfectly.

So I tried it again with the rental DVD, it still doesn't work.

My guesses are.

a) It's a cheap DVD. (some label I'd never heard of before)
b)... wait a minute, that's it.
