Keep your disaster notification card handy!!!
Convergys, the customer-service company, recently issued each employee a plastic-coated wallet card containing an emergency number to call if the employee plans to be late or absent because of a nuclear attack, tornado, flood, earthquake or civil unrest.

What if there is a nuclear attack and no one is there to take your call? Does that constitute a no-call, no-show, or is there an automated voicemail system that lets you rate the degree of the disaster on your touch-tone phone?

Honestly... If I so much as come down with the flu, I don't worry about calling my job until I feel well enough to do so. Besides, a half hour into my shift, they'll call ME and save me the trouble. [Smile]
