How about someone to play the original Gladys Kravitz, Alice Pierce? Her screams were delightful!

There's no one around now that could equal Agnes Morehead. I agree.

I would suggest perhaps Clorox Bleachman..er...I mean Cloris Leachman for Endora. Gladys doesn't concern me too much as that is rather over the top and probably not too hard. But who to play her long suffering husband? And who do we get for Aunt Clara? Larry Tate? All the characters are so fondly remembered so the key to good casting and performance on something like this is that we know right away who is who without having to be told.

Paging Dr. Bombay...emergency, emergency...come right away!

Kathy Bates would be good in the mother role. She can be very devious as she was in Misery!! I'm afraid though that this will only end up again as another "B" movie. NONE of the TV shows made into feature films has been worth the film it was shot on.

Cloris Leachman was okay as Granny in "The Beverly Hillbillies" which is something I can't recommend (another example of the original having such good casting). But since they're going ahead with this, she'd be as good as anybody for Endora.

The one "As seen on tv" movie I enjoy is The Brady Bunch Movie." I grew up with that show, and feel the movie has fun with everthing that made the show popular, and so dated.

It should be Jim Carrey as Darrin. He was made for the part. He's got the looks, the mannerisms, the comic timing, everything! For Gladys Kravitz they should get Edie McClurg and for Uncle Arthur I think Robin Williams would be a hoot.

Speaking of Granny, the Irene Ryan Foundation sponsors a highly respected acting competition and bestows scholarships to the winners. Just think of it: You can refer to yourself as a Granny Award winner!

Hopefully this movie will cause at least the frist season of Bewitched to be released on DVD. I loved that show when I was a kid.

I am going to agree with Mark G. on having kathy bates in the Agnes Moorhead role. True no one can touch Agnes on that, but I think that Bates can bring a whole new devious look to it.

My guess is that they are not going to cast by who can pull off a great copycat performance, but rather can pull thier own brilliant turn on the role. Will Farrell is the perfect guy for Darren Stevens, he could even start goofy and then get serious half way through the film like he just changed darrens on us.

This one is inked in stone. It was Nora Ephron that apparently pulled this one together. The previous incantations of this movie were just plain silly, and now it appears to take a more serious but still slapstick turn.

Not all TV shows go bad when going to movies...

She played a great villain as "Cruella DeVil". She seems well suited to playing "fantastical" parts. She's got the fey attitude down pat.

Functionally, Endora was a serious antagonist that posed problems that had to seem insurmountable to the "hero" in order for all the gags to work. Like Yosemite Sam, she can't really be a comic.

Agnes Moorehead was a VERY serious, successful, & respected stage actress who absolutely knew how to play straight in comedy. You'd have to get someone just as imposing & technically astute, maybe someone who'd played Medea & comedies. Judi Dench would be a good choice if she weren't already playing Endora in the last James Bond movies. Maybe one of the Redgraves.

My favorite character to pop up was always Maurice Evans as Smantha's dad. He played heavy, he played comic, he had bits where he would roll off Shakespeare quotes because the character just liked to be flamboyant & dramatic. Evans was an accomplished Shakespearean actor (he was the first to perform Shakespeare on TV), & seeing him run all over it with a sort of comic dirt bike was just fun to see from both the inside & outside.

Almost a tie with Evans for my favorite on that series was Bernard Fox as Dr. Bombay. He never put a foot wrong, & nailed every laugh.
