We've installed a new chat program for the forums... unfortunately it seems to have a few issues with some browsers.

So far it seems it works fine with IE and Opera for Windows.

It also seems to work acceptably with IE for Mac... but occasionally stops updating itself so you have to hit the refresh button or type something to update the chat text window.

The problem is probably javascript related but I'm too tired right now to sort it out.

So... if you find a browser that doesn't work with the chat software, post the browser name and version along with the operating system and version you are using.

Also include what you are doing wrong to cause the problem.

Daryl, a FYI: While I like the "easy-on-the-eyes" med-grey background, some colors like the cyan and my hot pink don't show up well against that background.

Mac OS X and Safari 1.0 ... you need to make sure Java 1.4.1 has been installed. This update was released on September 8, 2003.

If you're on a wireless network, the loss and reaquisition of signal may cause your IP address to change. If this occurs, you will need to log off and back on for the chat room to operate properly. And stop walking around!

I'm running IE 6 and MSN 8 and now when the page refreshes the complete screen blanks for about 2.5 seconds when new post are made. From what I can tell I'm guessing the refresh rate is to slow??? and I miss two or three post. I also noticed that I can't just refresh the page to log back in.

The Chat Room is not working good by me.

I have successfully logged on and off the Forums using my existing password.

When I try to log into the Chat Room, I get the following message:

Log In address does not match Log In Id . Either I am logged in somewhere else, my IP has changed or another person has logged in under my ID.

But while getting this message, my name came up on the USERS ONLINE window, but I still was not able to access the chat-room.

Erick, I noticed the same thing. But other than that, it seemed to work OK for me. No complaints other than the refresh takes a little too long sometimes

In Camino for OS X I press "Chat" button on the frameside.html and I get the 404 error. Updated with da latest Java crap. Same goes with Safari in OS X.

Seems to work fine with Netscape 7.1 for OS X, as well as Internet Explorer 5.2 for OS X.

That's too bad... it works with my Adam Computer.

Due to the current security configuration of the software, some AOL users may not be able to stay logged in.

The AOL problems would only be with the chat software, not the rest of the site.

It's actually not just AOL either, anybody behind a cacheflow or caching proxy may have problems.

Will, my last post relates to your problem.

The short answer is, your ISP sucks. They're using a non-transparent caching server.

I hope to get a work around in place soon, but like most of us, time isn't something I have a lot of.

Just to be very honest and above board.

The current LONGEST REEL TIMES shows me in the top 4 slots, having been logged on for over 13 hours. I want to assure everyone this is no way close to being the truth. The longest I have ever stayed on was a little over three hours. I wasn't logged on since last night, but this morning when I checked the forums, it still showed me and Adam B on, even though we left at the same time last night.

So as much as it KILLS me to lose that top slot, honesty drives me to fess up!

Changes have been made so that the software is a little more friendly to people with sucky ISPs. Anyone who has had problems getting logged in should try again.

Currently I am logged in but the page actually quit loading and with the three finger salute I am geting the message that film chat is not responding.

What gives?

OK. Just went to Chat. I dont go much since I have had problems in the past.

Running a Gateway 2000 with Win98 ver. 4.0. IE version 6.

I have just installed new hard-drives and reloaded this thing. I now have 16 times the storage that I had before. Before the reload, my hard drive would grind and grind now and then, and the system would slow down oh so fast. After the reload, this problem has not happened until just now when I went to chat.

I was able to read the chat, but I noticed right away that the new drive was growling.

This machine has an original Pentium. Think this is my problem?

I did notice that even thought the drive was growling, I could still send posts to chat. At least I logged off MYSELF instead of the 'puter just dying like last time when I was talking to Coot Hill. Hmm. Maybe THAT was it? Did I download a Coot Virus?

EDIT: Before I did the drive work, Win98 was spread out on both units. Now, it is on one, with lots of room to spare, and my "image files collected from allover the net" are slowly filling the other.

We also replace the (I think this is the name) DRAM cards. Whole machine runs much faster now.

Uh, there's nothing the chat software can do to damage your hard drive.

Is it a bad noise? Or is it just accessing the drive a lot?

The chat pages refresh a lot, so if you have a noisy hard drive it might make a bit of noise each time it checks to see if it has a cached page for the one being loaded in chat.

Erick, any numner of a billion things could have caused that. Unless it keeps happening I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I didn't mean to imply that the chat system did damage. It's just that there was no room on the old drives for much of anything other than Win98.

I think that I had a bad connection this morning. There have been no more problems today.

I still think that I could have a coot virus, though.

Oops. We bwoke it again tonight.

Anyone notice how it dumps when someone is about to be automaticaly logged out? (Tonight it was COOTZILLA's fault)

Perhaps that has something to do with it?

OK... I just now tried to log into the chat room with you and 3 others listed. I waited for well over a minute without any results. I back-spaced and when I came back to FT, there was no one listed there that were there before.

I now agree...the chat room software SUCKS big time! It used to work fine! Something must have been changed!

I'm trying to get in the chatroom lately but it's not logging in. everytime I see someone listed as online there and I try to log, it doesn't show any response after typing name and password. On the few times I got logged in, it dropped me some moments later.
Tried another browser but the same thing happened.
what's up with it?

My connection is via SBC/Yahoo! ADSL (residential) my login server is out of stockton, ca., usa.

After loging in that browser window begins sucking up resources like a hungry monkey.

It's definitely related to the auto log-out feature. If someone forgets to log out, the chat room will crash when the system tries to log them out automatically due to inactivity.

It's an issue with Perl switching internal character sets. Why they did that I don't know... I guess to piss everyone off.

At some point in the next decade I'll get some time to fix it. In the meantime if people would just logout, you'd be all set.
