Danish filmproducer Just Betzer died yesterday, only 59 years old.
Just was the man behind Gabriel Axels "Babette's Feast", taking home the first Oscar for a danish film ever.
Beside this one, I guess, You have never heard of him out there in the big world. After many years of solid succes i Denmark, Just sold off his distribution companies, ASA and PANORAMA, to start business in Hollywood. I'm afraid, he should have stayed home. - But sure thing is, that Just Betzer lived his whole life for films and loved it. His father, Edward Betzer was a real pioneer in local cinema life, starting with a travelling cinema of the smallest kind, going from town to town with the projector and gear in a "Long John" bike, during WW2. When Just was about 10-11 years old, his father build the Park Theatre in Aarhus suburb Risskov, where Just from opening was the bell boy.
I belive, he was producing his first feature film, before his was twenty. Just had flair for the popular danish comedy stuff and made many happy cinemagoers during the years.
Maybe a small straw in Hollywood, but for sure, one of the biggest (and happiest) in his homeland.

Bye, buddy - see You up there/down there...??
