Can someone tell me, once again, how I can "capture" a screen/page and then insert same into my email client (Eudora).

I have been told once before by a friend, but it didn't stick with me... I've seen it done here many times, mainly by Adam, and Brad did it in the 3 disc - 2 disc file swap process...

If you want to capture your entire screen you just push print screen on the keyboard. That will copy the image to your clipboard.

The clipboard is the place where the computer stores any information that is copied using the copy command from the edit menu. To retrieve the contents of the clipboard, create a document and select paste from edit.

The clipboard does actually have a physical location, but I don't know where it is on a windows machine. On Mac OS 9 it is in System Folder>Clipboard

windows should store print screen images as a *.clp files. If you are running nt,2k, or xp go to the start menu and goto run then clipbrd.exe your screen shot will plop right in there. Or you can use paint of word or anything that suports graphics. I believe that clipbrd holds the image in memory... clicky here for more information!

Most PC keyboards have the "SysRq" function doubled with Print Screen. So, technically, to get a full screen shot you need to press Shift+Print Screen.

Another handy feature is the Alt+Print Screen function. That will capture a screen shot of the active window only. It's a little more convenient when you are copying something to the clipboard that you wish to crop in Photoshop. Hit File>New and the document is automatically sized to the contents of the clipboard. Just remember to hit Edit>Paste to bring in the clipboard image.

Some applications won't allow you to capture images to the clipboard. For instance, whenever I apply Alt+Print Screen while a Quicktime movie is playing I just get a black screen image when pasting the clipboard contents into Photoshop. It is nice that software DVD players like PowerDVD allow to capture still frames with their little photo button icons. Good way to build up some movie related wallpaper.

Do not pirate Windows screen shots... especially PowerDVD screen shots.

If you're going to do a LOT of screen captures, I'd recommend using SnagIt or something like that. But for the occasional screen capture, the PrintScreen works just fine.
