I saw Something's Gotta Give today, and was struck by the lack of CAP codes. Specifically, I only saw one instance of the Deluxe CAP code, on R3. Was I just distracted by the movie, or were there very few CAP coded frames?

It seems that they are putting some thought as to which scenes to put them in. I usually only see two or three sets on newer movies. I know on both Lord of the Rings and Cheaper by the Dozen I only saw it twice. but I know it was there more.

The AMC Clifton Commons opened 2 prints of Something's Gotta Give. If the print I saw yesterday (5:05 matinee) had the CRAP Code it must have been placed where I didn't notice it. [Wink]

I screened My Baby Daddy and House of Sand and Fog Thursday and noted that I didn't see any CRAP CODE!

Both prints were from ETS.

Could this be the beginning of a new trend????

House of Sand and Fog is Dreamworks, which means the Technicolor lab. This has never been a problem.

My Baby's Daddy is Miramax, which means the Deluxe lab, where the CRAP code has been a major nuisance over the last year. If indeed the obnoxious code from Deluxe wasn't prevalent on this print, then maybe there is hope for the industry.

The next major release is Butterfly Effect from New Line on Jan 23rd, then Jan 30th brings Perfect Score from Paramount and You Got Served from Sony. Those are the next 3 releases from Deluxe labs. These will be the three to watch.

Remember Jason, the shipping depot (TES / ETS) has nothing to do with the code. They don't print the films. [Wink]

No Jason. Those are such shitty titles that the distributors didn't want to spring for the $$$ for CAP code since NO ONE would bootleg those... [puke]

I get the point about the labs . I happened on this thread while looking for something else. When I saw the thread title I recalled the fact that neither print had nay CRAP CODE in it. I never even thought about the distributor/lab aspect while typing...

Then again, I've been known not to think at all when typing... [Big Grin]

Not true... while My Baby Daddy (I refuse to call it by the correct title) wasnt' great by any means, House of Sand & Fog was a really good flick. It had substance, depth and a pretty 'drawing' storyline. After seeing this, I have even more admiration for Ben Kingsley and his acting skills.

Somethings gota give. There were, as usual, some dumb code placements.
On a screen check as a pan up from the back of a cream couch, the most obtrusive code flashed into view.

Jason, I refuse to watch "House of Sand & Fog" based on that stupit title! It sounds like a story about a whorehouse in Ft. Lauderdale in December.

But I do agree, Ben Kingsley is a great and talented actor.

The CRAP code on Return of The King was in the worst place ever. End of Reel 9, 2 places. Just before Frodo wakes up, (Lovely white screen) then at the end of that scene where it dissolves to total white again.

Shocking!

hmmm, our house of sand and fog has a small amount of crap on reel 2 (or 3?). the first flash i could have been mistaken, but the second was definite, and spread out over the whole screen. that was the end of it though.
