Today it was a mild and pleasant 68 degrees (Fahrenheit that is, I have finally gotten used to that) with a bright blue and nearly cloudless sky in Southern California. It was great. I could drive around with the window all the way open. For tomorrow, they promised us 72.
Just thought I let all you nice people in those freezing cold, snowed-in locations know. What`s the weather like where you are at now? Do your hands stick to the wheel when you get in the car in the morning?

It was around 60-65F today here in lovely Dallas. The nights are in the 50s. Not cold at all, just a light breeze. Easily t-shirt and jeans weather.

It's ashamed I don't have a bike, because it's such perfect bike riding weather down here. Maybe I should get one. (Watch how long it takes for Josh to respond about his bike being locked up and Fargo being frozen over while he's freezing his ass off. )

Yeah, its good riding weather, it was fun riding a couple days ago when it was 20 degrees outside.

IT sucked riding home just now, there's a fog and the roads were super super slick. I had to go so slow.

ITS ALL BULLSHIT

Everyone hates the cold. I'm not talking mid thirties sort of 'cold,' some people do like that. No, when the thermometer goes below 20 F EVERYONE is miserable.

Right now the temps are hanging out in the teens with windchills occasionaly below 0. I hate Wisconsin.

Here in Hollywood today, it was a pleasent 75 degrees.

It has been around 50-60 during the day and around 30 at night here in Las Vegas. I am from the the DC area and this is pretty god damn nice for a winter for me. However, it just amuses the hell out of me to watch the natives here bitch about how cold they think it is. When I moved here in 2000, when it actually hit below 65 for the first time in November during the day, all the natives were breaking out the big coats and screaming that it is freezing and I would have been comfortable in shorts. Funny stuff.

Scott, you must have the warm spot up here. My thermometer said -5 this morning. (that's five below zero)
I grew up in Maine, and let's just say that I know from personal experience that diesel fuel turns to a gel instead of a liquid at about -40, and that by adding kerosene you can drop that to about -50. I remember once growing up that they canceled school for a few days because all of the busses had had their fule turn to gel (engine heaters only heat the engine, not the fule tank!)

I can live anywhere and don't even mind the snow, but the 20ft.-deep snows are a little much. I'm happy, though, if I can stay warm (but not "toasty", I like it a little on the cool side) and work without having to get out in the mess. Big trucks are hard to keep warm in the winter, especially if you're not pulling heavy freight, so I'm freezing my bejeebus off running the NYC/NJ area!

Weather here has been screwy. About a week ago it was in the upper 40s during the day and mid-30s at night. Now, it's 78 degrees outside, partly cloudy. The trees don't know what the hell to do.

It's ashamed I don't have a bike, because... oh you know! I'm not much of a bike person anyway. I got a pair of skates, though. They take up less room in the already-crowded house.

Yesterday it was in the 60s and I wore thick cord pants, a shirt, and a sweater. We call anything below 65 here "nippy" weather. Anything below 50 is just downright COLD!

Remember, we hardly ever get below 32F here, so our temperature threshold is way out of whack.

It's about 12 degrees here, 2:00 in the afternoon, and it just stopped snowing.

OK, so right now here in my hometown it's mid-afternoon, and it has been mostly sunny for most of today's daylight hours, and the temperature is sitting at 0°F.
Add the windchill, and it feels like -20°F.
That's freaking cold!

Granted, it happens every year, I expect it ... but still, brrr!

And no - I don't complain about melting when the temperature hits 85°F. I just get a little bitchy.

However, when the summer temperatures here get into the upper 90's, with really high humidity, I might complain about it being too hot & sticky to function.

Rachel, I jealous. I grew up outside Chicago and miss the snow. It's fun around here when we have snow/sleet storms because then I can find a parking lot(THEATRE) and do donuts for a while.

While we've had record highs the last few weeks, yesterday and today have been a little on the 'mild' side.

Currently in Myrtle Beach, 39°. Low of 32° overnight with a high of 49° tomorrow. Rainy all friggin day, which helped keep the Q-tips away... and we opened Big Fish, Calendar Girls, & House of Sand & Fog today. Perfect geriatric flicks for matiness business... :>)

I'd expect to see Phil if he wasn't being a little bitch.. oh wait, that's a little bitchy, over on the other coast!

And you guys talk about riding.. If you have a bike.. don't be a fairweather rider.. Be a RIDER. Ride in the rain, cold, snow, heat, etc...

The fresh air intake to my furnace was drawing in so much cold air that the thermal couple on the pilot froze and shut the gas off in the middle of the night (cold toes in the morning

It's 75 degrees F here in Auckland New Zealand today. The beaches are packed with people on their summer holiday. It's the weather that film exhibitors hate as families tend to enjoy outside activities and stay out of the theatres.

Our biggest problem down here this time of year, is risk of sun exposure due to the short burn time. The depletion of the ozone layer is a major issue in this part of the world.

WOW! Rachel, you're in the midst of a heat wave up there! When I used to service those theatres -20 was the norm. I guess you can put your fur coat back in storage now.

Actually, Here in Salt Lake City it has warmed up from 29 deg F. yesterday to the mid 30's today. This is a good thing and will allow the snow to melt slowly....we got alot of that stuff right after xmas. I love the snow to play in but not to work in.

Jeez, Daryl you must be an idiot to live somewhere that cold!

Just kidding, we were just about as cold here about a week ago.
-20 to -25F for a low and on Tues our high temp was -17F.

It's really not as bad as everyone says. It is only this cold for a few months a year. Last month I don't think it even got below zero. Tomorrow it is supposed to be around 30. I got a date with my snowmobile.

Well it was so cold last night that when I went into the cinesphere the water lines from the lamphouse to the CCU had froozen where they went through one of the concrete slabs

Michael... Yes we have cinemas here, but they melt in the summer and we have to rebuild every year.

It's about -8 F currently in Fairbanks. Last week it got down to -35 F and the wind blowing with gusts of up to 30 mph.

I don't know what that makes it tempature wise with the windchill. But it was VERRRY cold.

I have see tempatures in Fairbanks from -65F with out windchill factor included and up to 102 F.

Last week it went from -20 F to +25 F in 12 hours. Weather is very weird here.

Our low temperature these past week has hovered at a low of 64 degrees and our high has been around 70 here in Hawaii. Although we had a lot of rain for over a week after Christmas, the weather this past week was just gorgeous!

The weather in Maine certainly can be wacky as well.

Just an hour ago I was standing outside with my little brother, waiting for the schoolbus to pick him up, it was snowing lightly, and the sun was out enough & bright enough that I felt compelled to wear my sunglasses!

Temperature is hovering around 16°F - which is noticably warmer than it has been for the past few days.

One thing that was kinda neat - near the WSW horizon - I could still faintly see the moon in the sky.

I don't think the numbers have ever been that high...

According to the census females make up about 48.3 % of the population. Where as the national average is 50.9 % .

Hey you guys....

When I left Fargo, North Dakota last week, it was 18 degrees BELOW ZERO! In Mindrot, North Dakota and some spots in Northern Montana, it was 27 degrees BELOW ZERO!

The train I was riding had to borrow a freight locomotive because our lead locomotive broke down from the cold.

The rails were so brittle we could not exceed 65mph without fear of the train damaging the rails.

You folks on the East Coast enjoyed a balmy "0" degrees.

Today in the wonderful Pacific Northwst, we had a beautiful 56 degrees! (Short sleeve shirt day)

Some friends are finishing out their new cabin in Fairbanks, AK. They mentioned weather predictions in November for severe cold warnings, not good when there's no glass in the windows yet (just clear plastic wrap at that point). So they obtained 2" foam insulation for the windows as a stop gap. Turns out the severe cold never came--only got down to -42°F(!).

They now have all but one window installed and have running cold water in the garage. The interior walls went up during the holiday season and they hope to have a bathroom in before this semester begins (he's a computer programmer for the UA system, she's a professor of Japanese at UA Fairbanks). They are both loving life now, finally Alaskans again after almost 20 years of chasing degrees and careers together all over the rest of the world. Life is good.

There were many people riding their bikes (That is Motorhertz, not bicycles, for Mr. Schaffer's benefit and understanding).

There were many convertibles with the tops down as well with REALLY cuties driving.

Most of NZ has a cool summer Temp of around 71F for today ,but it has been up 104F in some places and our main crop and Stock areas of the South Island are in the worst draught conditions for many years as crops like corn and Potatoes are failing also fire is a big danger in those locatios as well , so we expect prices of some foods to rise soon

Currently -5°F - with windchill knocking it down to -25°F. And the sun has been out & bright all day.

It's supposed to gradually warm up a wee bit.

By Sunday, we may see the temperature get up to 20°F. Yeah, sure, that's still below freezing, but it will feel better!

Today were experiencing the biggest snowfall of the year here. Its up to about 9" outside. We've had more other years but this is the biggest so far.

Snow Piles Up Across Metro Detroit
National Weather Service Expects More Snow Wednesday Night

UPDATED: 5:38 PM EST January 14, 2004

The National Weather Service reports that up to 7 inches of snow has fallen in some metro Detroit neighborhoods, with more expected for Wednesday night.

Snow totals as of 3 p.m. included Livonia at 5 inches, White Lake at 6.7 inches and Macomb Township at 7 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS expected additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches for Wednesday night.

A winter storm warning was issued until 8 p.m. Wednesday for Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Midland, Saginaw, St. Clair and Shiawassee counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning means severe weather conditions are likely and significant amounts of snow are forecast. This will make travel very hazardous, according to the NWS.

The snow started falling during the morning commute, according to Local 4 meteorologist Andrew Humphrey.

About 24 accidents were reported on the roads during the morning commute, including two jackknifed tractor-trailers, according to Local 4 Traffic.

"It's a mess out there," traffic reporter Tracy Gary said.

A winter-weather advisory is in effect for the rest of southeastern Michigan through early Wednesday evening, in which snow is expected to affect the afternoon commute.

Road crews said they were prepared and would be aggressive with the snowfall.

Right now were probably at 0 degrees and low is -8. Theres been tons of accidents so far today around here but I guess thats what happens when people drive like morons when we get this kind of weather. Whenever it snows or rains, its human instinct to drive faster and more aggressive during dangerous weather, endangering the lives of others who are taking the extra few minutes and are being cautious. This might sound harsh but if your car ends up in a ditch because you dont have any patience and dont take your time then its your problem. Just dont take innocent people with you.

Heyyyy not fair.......Windsor is a national landmark ever since being in Bowling For Columbine! In all honesty though, I enjoy this town more than most others and so what if its a tourist haven for alcholic underage kids and gamblers from Michigan.......just give some of these girls a couple beers and youre guaranteed one hell of a night and wish you all lived here!

Hey, I feel for those people on the East Coast. I just ran across an article that indicates extremely dangerous wind chills of -45 degrees below zero. CNN has hinted at power shortages due to some power plants running out of natural gas.

I hope all you you eastcoasters weather this crisis without too much problem.

Last I checked, Alaska was west of Canada.

Detroit is the only place in the US where Canada is due south.

...Adam, I was thinking in terms of latitudes. As some of Canada is as far north as Alaska, but a big slice of Cananda is more southerly than Alaska.
