Yikes!! I can't remember all the cars I have had. It started in '48 with a '36 Ford 2dr sedan. I even had a '41 Ford coupe rebuilt by a local dealer in the mid-'50s. Some of my favorite cars have been a '55 Chev and a '58 Chev. Even had a Studebaker Lark and a Fiat sedan in the early 60s. I currently drive a Plymouth Voyager mini-van. If you figure a new car about every two or three years I must have owned about 25 cars. My biggest problem is I don't know what happened to any of them.

Mike, if you are looking into a T/A go pre 1976. After 1976 or so Pontiac stopped using its own engines due to emissions and fuel use problems and stuck crappy Olds, or worse yet 5.0 L Chevy engines in their T/A's which have the performance of the modern day Escorts.
Look under the hood, if the alternator is on the passenger side, pass on the car as it isn't a Poncho engine.
When I had my T/A people (including women) DO look when they see nice cars of that vintage going by.

My very first car was a brand new 1963 Chrysler Valient my father gave me as a gift when I came home from the mainland after studying photography at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara in 1962. Since than, I have driven a brand new car every three years including my last new one, an Acura Vigor I purchased in 1993 to replace a brand new Mercedes 190 E that was hit by another car and badly damaged at my studio parking lot. The Acura died of 'old age' about a year ago and I am now driving a 1992 Mitsubishi Gallant . Although my current car is a year older than my previous Acura, it runs very well. I could have bought another new car but I just wanted something simple and when my cousin offered the car to me for free, it was hard to turn down.

Well, Im 35 and have had 4 cars in my life, 3 of which I still own.
My first was my Dad's '65 Ranchero. This car was bought used and was pretty much beaten up, but remained a loyal friend.
A few years ago I purchased another '65 Ranchero that has a pretty rare data plate. This is both my toy and daily driver...the one that I brag about and am currently restoring as $$ allows.
I saved another '65 Ranchero body from the scrap yard. This body also has a fairly rare data plate, and with a few exceptions, the body is almost a flawless origonal...a true rarity. So, I am pulling all the good stuff out of my Dad's origonal beater, and using those parts to restore my two good cars.
While I was in the service, I purchased a '90 Mazda Protoege. This car was a very loyal and dependable friend. Unfortunately I t-boned a Camero that made an illegal left turn in front of me as I was traveling in the opposite direction through a green light intersection. The bastard I hit was a punk driving under a suspended license, no insurance and the car did not have current regristration.

Yay! I'm the first person that's posted on this thread in over 2 years!
I'm 21 yrs. old.
1st car: '94 black Chevy Beretta (age 17, piece of ![[bs]](graemlins/bs.gif)
; only had this car for a month, then it got totaled; wasn't my fault though)
2nd car: '91 black(with a crappy paint job) Honda Accord (age 18, even crappier than my first car; had this car for about 9 months; It ended up catching on fire; Don't ask me how. My insurance didn't cover fire, so I was screwed.)
3rd car: '91 burgundy Honda Civic (age 19, another piece of , but still slightly better than my previous car. Had this car for about 10 months, then sold it when I bought my new car.)
4th car: '04 red Chevy Cavalier (age 20, finally a pretty decent car! Still drive this car today.)
By the way, my insurance is $1,620 a year, liability only.

1985 Buick Skylark, bought it for $50 ended up selling it less than a year later for $100!
1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V This car was absolutly beautiful. Green leather with green shag carpet and the Cartier package. Had 232,000 miles and started every time. I traded it because it didn't have a/c.
1989 Merkur Scorpio, by far the coolest car that I ever owned. Cracked the head going 130 mph and traded it in a few weeks later.
1999 Ford Tauras. Bought it in perfect condition with only 30k miles on it. Engine blew at 70k miles (they never figured out why) extended warranty paid for a new one. 5k miles later the tranny went out and got it replaced under warranty, 2 days later I traded it in.
Current vehicle:
2002 Dodge Intrepid. Not the car that I wanted to buy but it's the nicest car that I could afford. Bought it with 9k miles on it, a year and a half later it now has 45k miles on it (I drive alot) and I have never had a single problem.
Project car:
I will be getting a 1987 Cadillac Superior Hearse within the next few weeks. It just got out of service from a funeral home in Wyoming. The car is in mint (showroom quality) condition. I don't plan to do much to it since it is in such good condition. I'll probably just replace the wheels and add on some throaty chrome pipes.

Well, I am now in the middle of converting the Ranchero to front disc brakes...something I've wanted to do for quite some time.
Actually, for '65 Falcons and Mustangs there are several disc brake options available. If one has the $$ to spend and the resources available, either the Mustang II front end conversion or direct bolt in rack and pinion conversions such as used on the '67 Eleanor are available. There are also disc brake conversion kits available from Wilwood, SSBC and Baer.
But one of the most popular is the '75-80 Ford Granada conversion. Mid '60's Ford nuts "discovered" that '75-80 Granada disc brake spindles are almost a direct bolt on....a few minor mods needed regarding the outer tie rod ends.
So, I needed a front brake job (including new drums), so instead of throwing good $$ after bad, as front drums SUCK, I shelled out the $$ for the Granada parts.
Actually, the Granada conversion is sooo popular that it is getting ever more difficult to find good spindles in salvage yards!

I get to add another! I destroyed my 2nd car at the end of last year, & so shopped & looked for a month to get a new 2nd car to replace it. Guess what it is!
Always pick your car based on its performance in showroom stock. You want to know where it is when you get in it right off the floor.
The car had 4 consecutive national SCCA Showroom Stock championships when introduced, & in one of the most notorious episodes in SCCA history, SCCA then re-wrote the rules for showroom stock allowing "trunk kits" because the other mfrs could not even come close to compteting with it -- so the event isn't really "showroom stock" anymore. Another shred of cred for the SCCA down the toilet.
Came in 2 door & 4 door, manual & auto, SOHC & DOHC versions.
Since the car was eating everything up in autocross & pulling 64 mph slalom times, the mfr. of course decided to push the SOHC auto version & maket it to the female demo. Likely because someone in marketing told them that the female demo makes the buying decisions for the family, like all marketing departments advise every business.
Had a huge styling change (which I don't particularly like) in 2000, so I had to find a low-mileage 1999.
Introduced in 1995, production ended in 2005.
Turbo version introduced toward the end of the run was the fastest 0-60 car mfd in USA.
38 mpg Hwy!

Wow! My 1998 Ford Mondeo is 1,500 miles off the 200k mark, which I thought was doing well (apparently the average lifespan of a car in Britain is 132k). As a 35k mile per year driver I've always gone for low years/high miles cars, because long motorway runs put relatively little wear on an engine, and a high mileage car is no longer depreciating like crazy.

Only ever had one; a Morris 1100, KKR696E. Got it in about 1978, got rid of it in December 2002. Best thing I ever did, I hated driving. Only ever did less than 1500 miles in all the time I had it, and 300 of those were on one day.

Three so far: I got a 1990 Olds Cutlass Ciera International Series in 2000; in 2002 I found my way into a 1991 5-speed Ford Probe & shortly thereafter in my black 2000 Pontiac Sunfire coupe, which is where I find myself when driving nowadays.
Never fell in love with any of them.
