Here in Dallas and maybe all around, the radio stations are not able to actually say "Superbowl" or even the team names.

They have to dance around it.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is ?

They have mentioned something in regards to trademarks.

One of the radio stations her in Vegas will on call it the "BIG GAME" and one of the DJ's said it was due to legal reasons and trademarks. However a couple other stations actuall actually used the words "Super" and "Bowl" together in some promotions. Apparently you have to pay for the rights use the words "Super" and "Bowl" together at the same time. For my sake and Brad's, I did not use them together because I don't need to be bothered by the NFL. God forbid if I even think about taping a game. [Roll Eyes]

Another example of the money-grabbing "professional" sports organizations/CORPORATIONS ripping off the fans & all us "peons"! JFC! NO ONE may say the words "Super Bowl" for fear of the Sports Police GOD striking them dead with a bolt of lightning!

Besides, those idiots tout PEPSI as their official soft drink! YUK! [puke] What a bunch of jerks, eh Daryl?

The endless circle of more and more costly event tickets to support more and more outrageous player salaries! [bs] I gave up on pro sports years ago for that reason. F 'em! [fu]

If I'm running a news organization either through radio, TV, print or web, I can use the term "Super Bowl". If the NFL wants to pressure people about trademark use they need to be told to blow it out their ass.

One of the provisions of copyright and trademark law is "fair comment." You can legally use trademarks and copyrighted material in material that is "editorial" such as any news story. The only things you really have to be careful about is providing notice who owns the copyrighted/trademarked material and not use it in any kind of a scandalous way.

What is the deal with the guy in the center with the huge belt buckle? Seriously. He needs therapy. Why else would he have a buckle so big?

Sure, "Superbowl" is a registered trademark, but you can still say it. Maybe you just can't use the term in promotions without consent ("win two tickets to the superbowl" etc). Otherwise you couldn't say ANTHING. You couldn't say anything like "I was driving my Honda down the street past the Pepsi Center when the Colorado Avalanche jumped in front of my car and committed suicide as I listened to my Sony MiniDisc recording of Guilty Gear X."

Sports is dumb. Sports broadcasts were originally planned as a diversion to get people's minds off of real-world problems and it's been working ever since, single-handedly dumbing down the people of this nation. It's amazing what people do in the name of sports. More people have died as a result of professional sports than from any single schedule-1 narcotic. Even major broadcasters like CBS drop their advertizing policies if it means they can place such-and-such an ad on during the SUPERBOWL.

Which reminds me: SUPERBOWLSUPERBOWLSUPERBOWL.... etc

There. Now if they sue me they'll be lucky to get my Osram hat!

I'm glad Florida doesn't have a professional whoever that can compete in the championship yadda yadaa... it reduces the chances of idiots going apeshit in the streets for one reason or another. We're lucky our college team sucks so we don't get much of that around this town.

I second Phil on this one!

Being from Tucson, Lute Olsen and the AZ Wildcats are extremely popular!

But I've got to rock the boat! [Big Grin] [thumbsup]

I am very much against the amount of hype and $$ revolving around college sports, no matter where!

Arizona's economy currently sucks, and Tucson is really in a big jam!

Meanwhile, Lute Olsen and that new football coach are among the highest paid State employees! College jock coaches the highest paid employees! [puke]

People say that their salaries are justified. How, I ask? [Confused] People state that Olsen brings a lot of $$ and publicity to the U of A and Tucson. And so I ask, where is it? [Confused]

So far, we are looking at State-wide tuition increases, degree programs are being cut back, educators earn pitiful wages, etc, etc.! So where is all this $$ that Olsen brings to the U of A? Well, people say, the sports program pays for itself, and the alumni association pais Olsen's salary, so it is said?

Meanwhile, Olsen and his peers earn tremendous bonuses should their athletes maintain bare minimum academic standards! [puke] [Confused] On the other hand, what kind of bonuses do educators get if their students make the Dean's List, etc? A big fat [sex] !

We are always hearing about this misbehaviors of the Wildcat athletes, which are usually covered up. Not to mention that as an "educator", Olsen's graduation rate is not too impressive!

CBS apologizes for breast-baring end to halftime show.

quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- CBS apologized on Sunday for an unexpectedly R-rated end to its Super Bowl halftime show, when singer Justin Timberlake tore off part of Janet Jackson's top, exposing her breast.

"CBS deeply regrets the incident," spokeswoman Leslie Anne Wade said after the network received several calls about the show.

The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, and at the song's finish, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast.

The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the incident on the air.

It was unclear whether Timberlake intended to expose Jackson's breast.

Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the halftime show all week, "and there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended."

The Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom.

"We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show," Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said. "They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.

"It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime." Source

Did anyone record the hard core pr0n?????? Post it here on Film-Tech. We actively encourage hard core porn performed at Superbowl games every year. We also encourage unpaid child labor. No matter what it will soon be all over the internet.

Anyway CBS is stupid. Boobies are not R-rated. They are clearly PG-13. Even Doc Hollywood (I think that was what it was called) with Michael J. Fox had bare breasts and it was only PG-13. And if you framed it poorly it even had pubic hairs in that same scene! R-ratings are only for cuss words.

Janet Jackson's Super Bowl Show Promises 'Shocking Moments'
------------------------------------------------------------

HOUSTON — The Super Bowl means just as much to the entertainment world as it does to those who follow sports.

As the big game approaches, one of the top questions along with "Who's going to win?" is "What will Janet Jackson be doing at the halftime show?" But Janet isn't the only celebrity cutie who'll be catching eyes during the MTV-produced AOL Top Speed Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime performance Sunday. Jessica Simpson has just been added to the festivities.

MTV's 12-minute program will commence with a short film, and then one half of the world's most popular newlyweds will call for the party to start. From there the Houston native will hand it over to fellow hometown favorites Texas Southern University and the University of Houston. The TSU Ocean of Soul marching band and the UH Spirit of Houston Cougar marching band will unite as one, coming with their instruments blaring and feet stomping, leading the way for Ms. Jackson.

Although the bands have different styles — with TSU moving with a pump-and-drive, high-knee marching style and U of H using the more traditional heel-to-toe method — they've been able to meet in the middle.

"It's working out fine," affirmed TSU Band Director Richard F. Lee. "We have two different styles but we move the same distance at the same time; eight steps every five yards." Lee and UH band director David Bertman will share the reins on Sunday.

After seeing videotapes of the bands, Jackson was eager to work with both squads so she could bring something new to the table for her halftime performance.

"Me and Janet thought it would be great to change one of our numbers and introduce a drum line into our routine," Jackson's choreographer, Gil Duldulao, said Tuesday. "This is different because I know a lot of band members aren't dancers. So I'm happy to have the time beforehand to teach and sort of lead them in the direction that I feel is perfect for what we're doing onstage."

Janet will be backed by 26 dancers, 360 regular band members and a 60-person drum line. Each school has an equal amount of people playing.

"I don't think the Super Bowl has ever seen a performance like this," Duldulao added. "The dancing is great. She's more stylized, she's more feminine, she's more a woman as she dances this time around. There are some shocking moments in there too. It's a lot of pressure, there's so many creative people and creative artists, you want to make sure everything is different, and I think she's going to do that. She's doing her job well."

In addition to Jackson and Simpson, P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock will also perform at halftime.

(I apologise, the javascript buttons are not working on my computer.....an ideas?)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

In MTV's statement, they said that it was totally unreahearsed and unplanned but looking at the headline of that article, sounds to me like they had this little stunt up their sleeves the whole time. It doesnt really surprise me because they would want to top the little escapade they pulled at the Music Awards. The only problem is the kiddies at the awards love it because MTV has them so brainwashed with all of the crap they feed to them. I doubt football attracts this kind of crown in the first place. Also my opinion is that the NFL or CBS or whoever is in charge has to take some of the blame for even hiring those clowns to do the halftime show. They should have fully expected what was coming judging by their track record.

I watched that game too. I still haven`t figured out what they are doing with the egg and why people get so excited by watching it, but I found those 180 degrees scan replays interesting. How do they do that? Do they have cameras everywhere on a defined perimeter and then interpolate between shots? Still, the individual cameras are not static, but follow the action. So there must be some pretty complex setup behind this.

"EyeVision":

http://www.tvtechnology.com/features/news/n_CBS_Primed_for_Super.shtml

quote:
EYEVISION AGAIN

As for Eyevision and its semi-circular view of the action, it's not yet graduated to HD, but it has been spiffed up, said Larry Barbatsoulis, CBS director of technical operations.

"We've improved the video quality and pointing accuracy," he said.

The network originally developed Eyevision for the 2001 Super Bowl in partnership with Core Digital Technologies, PVI, and more recently with German cable company Sat1, which uses the system for soccer.

Eyevision is essentially an array of robotic cameras placed intervals around the field and controlled so that a rotating perspective can be rendered.

In Tampa, the cameras were arranged to capture a 220-degree perspective at 12 degrees apart. In Houston, the cameras will be placed closer together-about five degrees apart for a 180 perspective-to create a smoother image.

http://www.ri.cmu.edu/events/sb35/tksuperbowl.html

quote:
Football fans tuning into this year's Super Bowl were treated to a unique new view of the action during playbacks. CBS Television used a new technology co-developed by the network and Carnegie Mellon computer vision expert Takeo Kanade.

"Eye Vision", as CBS calls it, involves shooting multiple video images of a dynamic event, such as a football game, from multiple cameras placed at different angles. The video streams from these cameras are combined by computer and the resulting images reach viewers in a format that will make them feel as if they are flying through the scenes they see.

The action at Super Bowl XXXV was captured by more than 30 cameras, each poised some 80 feet above the field at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Each camera, with computer-controlled zoom and focus capabilities, was mounted on a custom-built, robotic pan-tilt head, which could swing the camera in any direction at the command of a computer. These camera heads were controlled in concert so that cameras pointed, zoomed and focused at the same time on the same spot on the field, where a touchdown or fumble occurred.

How does the system work? One of the camera heads is designated as the master camera. A human camera operator manipulates a movable pan-tilt tripod attached to a TV screen on which the video from the master camera is constantly displayed. The pan-tilt tripod is equipped with sensors to constantly measure its angle. The master camera head moves by mimicking the motion of the tripod as the camera operator moves it to capture a moving object on the field on his or her TV screen.

What more proof does one need? Neill Boortz stated that she should be arrested for indecent exposure. Again, I would have to agree. The only drawback to this is the HUGE surge in Album sales that would result if she were arrested.

I didn't actually [eyes] this happen last night, I was doing something else, but I did see P.Diddy (also known as that OTHER black guys who doesn't know what he wants his name to be), Nelly & Kid Rock. I thought it a little odd that while they were onstage, all the backup dancers had 'booty shorts' on with their ass cheeks shining.

Whgile hot women in ass shorts are normally something I would NOT mind seeing, they truly have no place on the SuperBowl Halftime show. I's bet that MTV is not a halftime show coordinator anytime in the near future, and rightfully so.

Soemthing else to think about. What's the difference between JJ's tit and the guy who streaked on the field? You don't know? HE will be arrested, no doubt. She, on the other hand, will not. [Roll Eyes] All in the eyes of power and money. [puke]

Now, I may be in error, but thought that 'indecent exposure' referred to the baring of genitalia, and in some places, pubic hair must also be exposed for it to be an offense for which one could be arrested / detained / fined.

And if you want to get technical, the breast is NOT a genital!

There was a bit of legal spat in the past couple of years in Waterville, Maine relating to indecent exposure. Two young women that were students at Colby College opted to go jogging, topless (bounce, bounce, ouch!) - and were picked up for indecent exposure, but it didn't fly, for the reasons I detailed above.

At our neighborhood Super Bowl party (20 couples), the halftime show was on, but few were really watching. Seeing it happen live, people did a "double take", and immediately concluded that it was deliberate.

The game was much more interesting, as were some of the commercials.

Janet needs to sue Justin and/or wardrobe people.
CBS needs to sue MTV along with Justin and/or Janet.

Otherwise it looks planned.

Justin says it was a "wardrobe malfunction" but it looks like the costume was designed to break away like that. It doesn't look like a rip or anything. Why would Janet need the silver star thing if she didn't plan that?

I saw a blurred clip over and over on CNN and MSNBC but they never show what happened next. Reactions? The emergency cutaway? Supposedly a total blackout?

It really looks like this could have been somebody's idea of a kind-of "reaction" to the Britney-Madonna kiss.

Seems like the "wardrobe malfunction" caused quite a stir among those with TIVO (apparently, TIVO tracks what people are watching and what they are rewinding!!!)

From a TIVO Press Release:

quote:
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Justin Timberlake and
Janet Jackson top the show during Sunday's Super Bowl, attracting almost twice
as many viewers as the most thrilling moments on the field, according to an
annual measurement of second-by-second viewership in TiVo households.
The Jackson-Timberlake moment drew the biggest spike in audience reaction
TiVo has ever measured. TiVo said viewership spiked up to 180 percent as
hundreds of thousands of households used TiVo's unique capabilities to pause
and replay live television to view the incident again and again. Overall, the
halftime extravaganza had a powerful grip on viewers. According to TiVo's
analysis of aggregated data from an anonymous sample of 20,000 households,
viewership of the game's intermission increased by 12 percent compared to last
year's halftime show.

I have a difficult time seeing Viacom suing itself (Viacom owns both CBS and MTV...)

But the NFL is now saying that they will never have MTV involved with another Super Bowl event again...

Good move on their part.

Joe's WMVideo clearly shows the deliberate move by Justin Timberlake to pull off that part of Janet Jackson's costume. And why would she wear a pastie unless there was a need to "be under the legal limit" in what was shown? Much ado about nothing for adult and teen viewers, but I'm sure parents with young children watching weren't too pleased.

There's been a lot of outrage on talk radio over the half time show. I was more concerned when the commercial said if you had an erection that lasted more than four hours seek medical attention. Wasn't this something their doctor could alert them to when prescribing the drug.I think this was a hook to get guys to ask for it instead of viagra.

A little skin or talking about a four hour erection please I'll take the skin. i was reading a book during half time and missed it but heard the erection speel.

I can't believe there is anyone debating whether this was planned or not. The question is why she would do something like that or why anyone would think it was a good idea to do it on a worldwide broadcast.
I was watching the game at a party and the only time the kids came in was to watch the half-time show. A dozen kids glued to the TV to watch a bunch of no talents, lip-syncing and grabbing their crotches like someone might steal it.
I believe some heads will roll for this event.
Anyway, here's a link to her breast. Leave it on the www where it belongs. The Drudge Report

So phil, when are you going to eat that bug?

I give you this guarantee. Disney will produce the halftime show next year. Just another reason to drink excessively for half an hour extra.

I think they should have Howard Dean do the halftime show next year... YEAAAAAW!!!!

The stunt was planned. The black outer covering was supposed to be removed and the red undergarment was supposed to remain in place, however the red undergarment came with it.

YEAH RIGHT.

If that were so, why would she need a nipple decoration? Just for personal comfort? Fun? And if this were true the red garment should have been a single piece and not multiple pieces, as this one was.

They may be telling the truth, however, it was planned none the less, in one way or another, and the risk of a wardrobe malfunction was high, and they should have known better. This over the top behavior will only serve to backfire in thier efforts to eliminate all morals in our society, and actually act as a catapult for the religeous right to gain more power in censorship on our airwaves.

WAY TO GO JANET. YOU STUPID IDIOT!!!

I still didn't know what she was doing there at the superbowl. She should be home taking care of her sister Micheal.

I WAS GREATLY OFFENDED BY THE HALF-TIME SHOW! [Mad]

Instead of showing a SKANK like Janet Jackson [puke] , they should have pulled a stunt like that with someone who is actually decent looking, like:

JENNA JAMESON [Big Grin] [beer] [sex]

That was just for you PHIL HILL! [Big Grin] [beer]

I guess we can now consider the Jackson clan to be the equalivant of Texas Chainsaw Massacre clan of the so called "entertainment pop" industry? [uhoh]

What really pisses me off is the lying about the whole thing.

If you want to do a publicity stunt like that you don't LIE about it you admit it! What should have happened is that Janet Jackson should have walked off stage and said, "So, What?"

Then, when the F.C.C. (or whoever) comes knocking at the door saying you have to pay a fine you should just reach into your jacket pocket and pull out a pre-signed check, already made out in the correct amount.

Why wasn't Janet's left breast exposed on Sunday?

Because its handled by the William Morris Agency.

Fox Searchlight seems to have sent me way more NC-17 stickers for posters and banners of The Dreamers than they did of the actual posters and banners. Maybe we should all send our extra stickers to CBS and the NFL for next year's half-time show. [Smile]

The NFL sent out cease-and-desist letters to all of the casinos that were planning Super Bowl parties here. Most of the casinos quickly re-designed their parties to comply with the 55" max screen size restriction (including sadly The Palms, where I was supposed to help install and operate on four theater screens). Many casinos also refunded the admission fees to their guests.

The casinos claim that the admission fees were only to cover the costs of the food and drink provided during these parties--the game itself, being broadcast on the air, would be free of charge. We'll see how that plays out in court.

On the other hand, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino told the NFL to stick it where the sun don't shine--they went on with their party as planned and advertised--big screens and all. We'll see how that plays out in court (wish I was contracting with them that day).

The NFL seems to have it in for us. They are looking into ways to sue our advertising agency and the LVCVA because they managed to get our 'Vegas ads run during the game in five major markets by buying local time slots. This was a clever end run around the NFL which had banned our ads from appearing during the game on the national feed. This should be a fun case to watch. Too bad this isn't the old 'Vegas--those NFL lawyers would find themselves wearing cement overshoes at the bottom of Lake Mead by now... [Big Grin]

Now I'm patiently waiting for "Phil eating bug" pictures... [beer]

55" max screen size? What the hell? Most home DLP's will go 80" or better. Was there some sort of nasty HDTV compression they were trying to hide?

It seems that Janet Jackson's putting the tit in titillation for the halftime show has dominated the news too much. At least it's gotten them off of Michael Jackson a little.
