PA State Police seized more than 1,500 bootleg compac discs, DVDS and videocassetes during a routine traffic stop. The suspect admitted he purchased them in New York for $5,000 and was taking them to Pittsburgh where it is estimated they would be worth $300,000.00.
The DVD titles included Passion of the Christ, Starsky and Hutch, Twisted, Monster and Lord of the Rings. The police spokesman noted that upon viewing the movies appear to have been taped at a theatre showing.
The suspect is being held in Somerset County Prison on an outstanding drug warrant from Alleghany County.

Who would pay $200 for a bootleg DVD of a movie that was taped off the screen at a theatre?

The current bootleg price from those sellers on the New York streets is DVD's $10.00 and VHS's $5.00 and single disc CD's $5.00 .

Scott and Paul, you underestimate the stupidity of the public...

Phil, you are absolutely correct.
Not related to the topic at hand, but I kinda got a laugh out of a traffic stop by the state troopers in Indiana. Some dude was driving a pickup truck with a load big enough to block the temporary license plate in the rear window. What was supposed to be a routine traffic stop resulted in a 900 pound marijuana bust.
The driver of the truck was obviously not the brightest bulb in the box.

i watched "Starsky and Hutch" last night at a friends house, he bought a bootleg copy on the way over. he paid $10, it had a DVD box case and a printed copy in color of the poster and the back had a snyopsis. pretty good looking copy sometimes it would skip a few minutes into the movie and the sound would get out of sync, you could see the reel changes.
