Thought some of you would get a kick out of this ad for the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, currently running 30 times a day on the Jumbotrons in Tokyo's Shibuya district:

Would like to have been in on the meeting when the ad agency pitched this. In the navy... [Smile]

You may need your Windows install disc handy if you choose to install the language pack for that page.

I guess I'm spoiled these days--Windows XP Pro and its versions of Office and IE include Japanese capability (Unicode is a good thing for us double-byte character set users). Shouldn't need it if one only wants to look at the 15 second spot, which plays automatically. Yeah, the rest of the page will display as ASCII garbage, but does it matter if one doesn't read Japanese?

Why not just download the Japanese language pack... it's small.

I thought it was an ad for the French Navy with Asian actors...too "swishy". [Razz]

I *did* download it (install on demand). And then XP Pro said it needed the install disc.

Well there's your problem. Stop using XP!

Paul, what does the announcer say at the end? My Japanese is getting really rusty.

That's OK Michael, my Japanese is already rusty.

The announcer's last line is (I think) "Kaijou Jieitai" or Maritime Self Defense Force. The two previous short lines I can't make out at all (not enough listening skill or vocabulary yet, if I could make out the words I could look them up) [Frown] Will have to run this ad by one of my teachers to see.

She was only an admiral's daughter, but she loved navel encounters with a great loss of seamen.
