Maybe this photo will help an insurance adjuster if my house gets robbed. Well, it might help them if they can get past the "creative use of cubist technique in the imagery."

Notable items in photo:

* Linotype Hell Saphir2 SCSI scanner (purchased for $1200 in 1998, now disappearing underneath a stack of junk that includes a malfunctioning Sony DVD player and a box of computer related garbage).

* Old PII 400MHz SCSI machine (which is probably only good to keep around if we want to hook up that expensive old scanner). May not happen since I have another scanner hooked up to the "good" machine. Big ass Anthrocart desk holds up PC in actual use. Stupid thing costs more than some computers. But hey, it holds a 12" X 12" Wacom tablet in front of a 21" Viewsonic P815 monitor weighing 75 pounds.

* I'm running an experient to see how long it takes for the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick to become hopelessly tangled with the Firewire cable, Memorex flash memory card reder and possibly the cordless phone base. I expect to come home one day and find the whole station being constricted to death by a maze of cables.

FWIW, Fort Sill nearby is home to 90% of the original UNIVAC (or is it ENIAC?) vacuum tube computer. The other 10% is at the Smithsonian.

For those who don't know, the ENIAC was one of the first computers ever made, with every data bit having to be processed by a vacuum tube. The computation power of ENIAC was comparable to an old pocket calculator, and the thing in its entirety fit in a very large room (much larger than any room we've seen in the home setup photos of this thread). This is why the Smithsonian has only 10% of it and the other 90% of it stored aboard Fort Sill.

Money is being raised (both public and private) for the construction of the "U.S. Army Museum of the Southwest". Honestly, this will be THE REAL museum for the Army, but the brass back in Washington doesn't want po-dunk Lawton and Fort Sill to have those bragging rights technically. Plans are to have the ENIAC cleaned up and put on display as one of the attractions. Fort Sill has the world's largest collection military weapons and other memoriabilia. The post also has a large collection of Great Plains 1800's cultural items no other museum can equal. But much of this stuff is in storage, not on public view. Hopefully the fund-raising goals will be met soon so this highly impressive collection can be enjoyed by many.

Phil, I too used to be among the ranks of those who "organized" and "cleaned." Hoever, now I realize that my desk with only hold a certain amount of trash before it falls off the edge, so I strategically placed the trash cans to catch the trash. Not really, but I only clean when I should be doing homework or something else important. You don't want to see the rest of the room.

You guys have finally got it... Totally not my room... Totally not my computer set up. I wanted to see who would catch it first. I don't even like Macs (sorry Joe). It didn't take long to do, so I didn't care to make it perfect.

I was too lazy to reinstall my Adobe Photoshop(after formatting my C: drive), so I used Paint Shop Pro 7 since it was already on another hard drive.

That case design has been used for many different Apple desktops, including the 300MHz Power Macintosh G3 desktop.

Note than Jen's has a Zip drive built in, which was not available for the 7100/80AV you reffer to.

If it was because of the new monitor this thread would have been started 2 weeks earlier. I've already had to replace that monitor once due to a dead pixel![av=l]

No Manny, that's why I took the picture. I started the thread because I already had the picture. Of course when I took the picture, I wanted to make it fun, since it is actually 3 separate pics. I am into QTVR's big time now and am always looking for an opportunity[av=c] to do panoramics.

Daryl is right. If I hadn't bought the Apple display, I wouldn't have had that dead pixel. If I had bought, say, a Sony LCD display, I would have had a dimmer picture, much worse color reproduction, and probably a few dead pixels after a given amount of time.

Is everyone on the rag? Manny?

Ah, Jen, how sweet! Actually, my setup has refined itself since the picture I posted on page one, and I've moved, too.

So, if you'd like to drool some more [Razz]

I've completed the pedal board. Also, note the addition of a Korg Triton LE-88 to the rig! This thing has become invaluable to me.

Other points of interest: Blue Sky Media Desk 2.1 monitor system, Sony MDR-7506 headphones, EV N/D767a microphones, Behringer Eurorack UB802 mixer, Gemini PA-7000 pre-amp, Wacom Intuos graphics tablet/stylus ... And, in case anyone wants to see how everything's set up, I did a rough schematic of the routing.

That actually makes sense--many monitors are now coming with built-in USB hubs. Assuming that Joe has a USB mouse, it would make sense for him to connect it to a USB hub that is part of his monitor (assuming that his monitor has said USB hub built into it).

The computer mainframe is classified..... as somewhat old but never fails...

Like I said, the Apple Cinema Display has USB ports. Maybe I should just stop typing altogether since people cannot read. What's more is that the Apple Cinema Display does NOT connect to any of the computer's USB ports. It only has one cable that connects to the computer, and no power supply of its own. Mark you have the same MS mouse I have connected to my Mac, except mine is clean.

Here is a picture of my other computer which is directly below the room my Mac is in:

It is a self-built PC (none of this e-Machines/Dell/Compaq nonsense). 10 points to anyone who can name what the other components on the room are (specific model #'s not neccesary).

quality) displays with built-in USB hubs that then connect to the computer's USB hub (port).

I know you know that I know that you know that the computer does a lot more with the mouse data than pass the pointer to the monitor. [Wink]

My main software is Voyetra Record Producer for digital audio and MIDI sequencing (I upgraded from Digital Orchestrator, and I'm kind of regretting it ... oh well, one of these days I'll be all over ProTools, and then there will be no stopping me) and Sound Forge for audio editing and mastering. Paul, you are correct! All original and working. Now guess what the item is in front of that same speaker. For big points guess what that thing is sitting on the little table on the right, and what that thing is right below the window (that's a toughie since it has an object sitting on top of it that does not go with that unit).

Now that is a Sega Saturn with the memory expansion card in the slot, can't remember what Sega called it exactly. I love my Saturn, shame it did not do well. I was so excited when it came out and being able to play Daytona USA. I like Nights into Dreams alot as well. Don't play video games much anymore so my consoles spend most of their time packed away. I also have a Master System I and II, Mega Drive I, Saturn and Dreamcast. Always been a big Sega fan.

Now I am taking a very big guess but that thing on the right- is it Panasonics video game system from like 1994?? I remember seing stuff about them in video game magazines at the time.

Under the window- Sega Master System One? I loved Spy HQ on MS, that overhead motor bike game, and you had to drive into the Sega truck and you got better things.

Will have to take a pic of my Macs to post.

You win on the Sega Master System and Saturn guesses. The thing on the right you lose on, however. I used to have a 3DO (bought it back when I was a complete moron). But what that is is actually an NEC TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM with 16MB memory expansion. It was called PC Engine everywhere else.

....now don't laugh boy's and girl's, it may not be as fancy as Joe's set-up, but it's very easy & fast to set up, and I can use this little rig just about anywhere, and it is even wi-fi internet ready,why just this morning at Starbucks(the one on Vasco Road), I was surfing away(on this forum of course) and I spilled my White chocolate mocha (venti) all over my keyboard, no problemo', the nice Starbucks girl loaned me a rag and with one swipe of the table, presto-cleano, I was back in business.

...yes Joe, I am left handed, and the crumbs from the Starbucks(excellent) coffee cake are no problem either.

Joe, I was going to guess you had a Turbo-duo over there, but it sounds like I was very close to the mark. I happen to have my own mint-copy of Rondo of Blood, Sapphire, the Y's games, etc. for the Duo myself.

BTW, I can make out the Genesis power base converter up on the shelf unless I'm mistaken. Also see a lot of master system games there with some Genesis boxes.

Yes, that is a power base converter on top of the SMS. I love the Master System/Genesis boxes. Coolest boxes in the world. I hated the transition to cardboard.

I almost hate to ask, but how did you acquire Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire and how much $$$ left your estate for it?

Well I took advantage of a person's "addiction" to get him to sell it to me some years back. He didn't know how much it was worth exactly, except he knew it was rare. I think I paid a hundred bucks for it. The game itself is quite forgettable, but has amazing graphics for when it came out.

My real prize is Rondo of Blood (NOT the SNES "Dracula X"). One of my all-time favorite older games.

Best traditional-style Castlevania game. I paid $69 brand new right when Dracula X came out! Now it's going for hundreds, isn't it? I will give you $125 for your Sapphire. I promise not to sell it. You hate it and need to get rid of it.

Excellent reviews of some real classics. Glad to see you liked the music in Mega Man II as much as I did. Quite simply the best music on the NES ever.

That's great to hear about Y's VI on the PS2. I had given up hope of ever seeing another US release of the series.

BTW I have an MP3 I converted from an old audio tape I made of my brother playing Mega Man 1 back in July of 1989, right before part 2 was released. I was only 15 at the time, so I sound like a retarded teen, but the sheer violent behavior of my brother attempting to complete the game is classic. He didn't know I was taping him, so every cuss and every slammed controller is pure candid bliss. You can here the sounds of the game in the background, which adds to the nostalgia factor of ripping your hair out back in the 8-bit gaming era. If you're interested in giving a listen, I can upload it. The track is 20 minutes long, which is a condensed edit of about 2 hours. Let me know and I'll upload it to my site.

As for the mp3, I've released it to the net-public before, so I don't mind posting a public link to it now:

Keep in mind the first two minutes or so is recovered footage that is missing most of my voice, so it will sound like my brother is bitching to himself (but is actually yelling at me). The remaining 18 minutes has my comments intact.

BTW, pay special close attention to the part starting at 5.27 in. There's an extra surprise in there not expected by myself and certainly not by my brother ;-)
