Lots of time middle age guys (presumably going through a mid-life crisis) will lust over a Hummer. My question is this: What do people see in this thing? It is ugly as hell! And the new one called H2O or something looks no different than the first one, at least to me. It is still ugly![av=p]

I agree Daryl! I got all hot and bothered for NO reason!

Joe, "teaser" topics are not allowed here on Film-Tech. If I was a moderator, I'd BAN your sorry ass!

Besides EVERYONE knows guys in mid-life crisis buy Corvettes! [Wink]

I'd like to get a hummer while riding in a hummer.

Uh, wait. It better not be the military version while rolling down some dirt road. The lady will bite it off if I hit a bump.

Anyway, a hummer is so great because it allows rich middle aged men, that can afford one, compensate for their small penis. On the other hand, it an ideal sport vehicle because it is nearly impossible to flip because of the width.

I much prefer the Lambroghini LM-002/003 series.

 -

It's just as ugly. Sucks up just as much gas. (Less than 8 MPG.) But I think the Lambo's got just a bit more style. It was billed as "The car that'll go where your Countache can't." (They stopped making them in the '90s, I believe.)

I guess it's fun to think about driving a vehicle like this but I usually just go lie down until the feeling goes away. It's not so much the extravagance that turns me off about vehicles like this but the fact that they suck up so much fuel that they tend to raise the price of gas for other people. Because there are so many gas guzzlers like this on the road the supply of gas becomes more scarce causing prices to go up.

I suppose if somebody had a genuine need for a car like this or even if the person enjoyed off-road driving as a sport/hobby I wouldn't be so negative towards them. However, for most people, the closest they will ever come to off-roading in a car like this will be when they drive it into their back yard to wash it! Then they convince themselves that they "need" it for the 1 : 1,000,000 chance that they'll ever get stuck in a mud hole or a snow drift while backing out of their driveway.

Stupid people piss me off!

Joe,

No amount of explaining in the world will reveal to you what is so great about a hummer... LOL...

Posted by Phil Hill (Member # 371) on 03-17-2004, 05:11 PM:

Dunno about that Chris. Around here most are owned/leased by 20-somethings and 30-somethings. A lot of desert rats here.

As far as those rich middle-aged men and their penis size, I'll have to take your word on that since it appears you have knowledge in that area. [Razz]

The majority of the retards here that drive them are women.......the ones who've never worked a day in their lives and need to feel like they are the king (or Queen) of the road. My suggestion is that people that own these things should be forced to get their trucking licence because thats pretty much what these things are. I just get a kick when it takes them 30 minutes to park it and get out and I just zip out in my little GTI.

No Phil, it looks like Dino is the expert on Hummer drivers. I feel sorry for GTI drivers that have to park in the parking lot. I just ride my bike up to the front door. [Razz]

Having done a fair amount of 4-wheelin' I will just say the 'real' Hummer has several features that make it an excellent off-road vehicle. If you like to go off road, but first need to drive to a place to go off road, the Hummer seems like a good thing... but I admit it's a bit too expensive to be knocking around. It's design is good for off road, but bad for looks. Ugly is part of it's charm, Joe!

It seems to me that the Hummer has way too small windows. Probably good for a military vehicle (=harder to hit), but completely nonsensical for a recreational vehicle. After all, watching the landscape fly by while you are driving is part of the fun!

There's a (not-so) dated Dennis Miller comment to the effect of ... a Hummer being driven in the Amazon is a tool, whereas the Hummer on L.A. freeways is being driven BY a tool.

The H2 is indeed different from the Hummer "proper". For one thing, the wheels are smaller and narrower. I see people driving these things into the valet parking at my theatre's mall's entrances and I lose all capacity for rational thought or sense of reality.

I heard one radio station giving one away to some caller in a drawing, or something. I would NOT want to win this thing. Like, sure, it's a real pleasure to get the opportunity to drive a 7 mile-to-the-gallon vehicle. I'll get better cost-efficiency by driving my 154,000-mile Geo Tracker into the ground, which I plan to do anyway, even if it WEREN'T paid off!

Around here a Hummer is a status thing. They aren't driven on dirt driveways much less off-road, which is real waste of equipment.

In Central NJ, a Hummer SUV is driven by a yuppie female with a cell phone welded permanently to her head. The military (looking) version is driven by a yuppie male with a cell phone welded permanently to his head.

One guy here has an olive-drab version, big tires, jacked up over the big tires, and it's always covered with mud and dirt. He must be the sole off-road user around here.

Must be a law here. When one buys a McMansion one must park an SUV and a minivan in the driveway. They all seem to be following this law. Clones.

So, what are REAL off-road vehicles?

The WWII GI Jeep and the Volkswagen Type 82 Kublewagen!

If ya have about $10k to spare, you might even be able to find a WWII American half-track...made "street-legal" with rubber tracks....that ya can literally use to push that Hummer off the road!

MOVE IT OR LOOSE IT, AND GET THAT PIECE OF [bs] OFF THE ROAD!!!

80,000 lbs. of raw masculinity (and the truck is pretty big, too)! This is the ultimate mid-life crisis machine, and it's got its own condo.

Hey!
I'm with Randy on that Kennicot ore hauler!! Really makes a Humsey look kike a toy. Here are the specs of the mine and the ore hauler. Wouldn't ya just love to go down I-15 in one of those.....

"The open-pit copper mine is the largest man-made excavation on Earth, with more than 5.3 billion tons of material removed from the area, including two towns. The mine is two miles wide and a half-mile deep. The trucks hauling ore carry loads of up to 240 tons each and have tires nearly 15-feet tall"

The mine is temporarily closed while the "Crusher" is moved to another location. These trucks dump their load into the crusher and the ore is chopped into smaller pieces that are put on a conveyor thats transports it for another 2 miles. And you explosives nuts be sure not to miss the blasting sessions at 10a.m. and 3 p.m. every operating day!!

That's cool!

If you've got the world's largest hole in the ground and the world's largest dump truck, then you'll need the worlds largest digger to complete the set!

Big Muskie

I wanna' see that truck run over that puny little SUV! [evil]

Actually our classic rock stations is giving one of these away. I think the addige is, if you want it, you'll draw for it.

Also, the coal fields in western North Dakota have some pretty serious machinery they use for removing coal.

Oh, no! Is it that bad?! It started out as a flat top. But it's not the hair, it's the shape of my head! I'm also stuck in the 70s "dry" look - not that there's such a thing as a cool hairstyle for middle-aged men. Maybe that's why even lot lizards (i.e., commercial beavers; i.e., truck stop whores) ignore me!

Joe, help me be cool like you... I'm completely lost!

Btw, ya can't drive that Cat dump truck on the ROAD, so it'd be kinda hard to pick up chicks! Neither does it have its own built-in love den like my Freightshaker.

Phil, it's REAL, ya gonzo! [Wink]

And, with a payload capacity like that, I bet you can "pick up" LOTS of chicks!

How true indeed. These trucks could be driven through a dense jungel and would leave nothing in theor wake but a road!
