My gawd, I look at these post times and they are so late. Do any of you ever get to sleep? Most of the posts are between 12m and 6am EST. Figuring in the 3 hour difference to California, that would make the posts between 9pm and 3am. I haven't been awake for 3am in 3 years!!! [Smile]

forgive the ignorance, but is this forum not a place regularly haunted by projectionists? most of us probably dont finish work til late in the evening anyways...

although my post times are all mental anyways cause I am in Oz, I generally dont check film-tech until around 1am every morning.

And I generally dont get to sleep until around 3.

I'm on Grave Yard Shift 2030hrs to 0700hrs NZT which is about 4-5hrs behind and 1 day ahead of Cal time , so this is my time to check out what is going on the Film-Tech Site [thumbsup]

Well Richie, maybe your theater is open from 9-5 but most of us on here do work very late. It is not uncommon for me to be screening movies on a thursday night until 5 or 6 am, even 10 am in some cases.

Also you have to take into account the time zone differences, someone in SoCal could have posted at a certain 12am and it would look like 2 or 3 am on FT since it is Central time.

Sleep? WTF is that? I work two full time jobs and I am up from 6:30 am to 1:30 - 3:30 am the following morning Monday through Friday. On a good night during that time I get maybe 4.5 hours of rest. Saturday work from 11:00 am to 6:00 p.m. then work helping a small town theatre trying to get remodeled and reopened.... And Yes I have no Life, before you ask.

If I'm lucky I'll get around 5 or 6 hours of sleep on any given weeknight. It's not like I have a wife or kids to keep me deprived of sleep either. Just broadband Internet access, hundreds of channels of satellite TV, home theater, computer games --not to mention a number of freelance graphics projects-- and a generally short attention span.

So I expect to have the usual thing happen tonight. I'll be busy doing all kinds of unproductive shit and then realize, "oh shit, it's 1:30 in the morning!"

I agree that it is fun to be nonproductive late at night and into the morning. I wish I could do away with sleep altogether... except when I'm bored. And then I will remain asleep until the next fun thing happens.[av=m]

I notice that the board now displays time as "X:00 AM/PM CT (Y:00 AM/PM Local). That's a good feature. A lot of boards display the time as GMT and allow the user enter their local time offset. The only thing I don't like about that is that you don't know what time it was in the poster's location when he made the reply.

Yes, I often haunt this board and others at odd hours. Often it's because I work late and that's the only time I have for recreation from when I'm done working until I "wind down" enough to go to sleep. Other times, It's because I get a touch of insomnia. Rather than toss and turn in bed I prefer to stay in the living room and play on the computer until I'm sleepy. Finally, I don't have cable TV, nor do I want it, so chatting on the internet is the way I prefer to get my entertainment.

So what if people haunt the boards at all hours? It's actually a cool thing. If you have a question or problem or if you even just want to shoot the shit you know there's SOMEBODY out there who can answer.

Being a night person, I'm MOST productive in the wee hours of the morning. I mean, hey, I'm in CA and it's a quarter to 6:00am here. I haven't been to bed yet. The night's not over until the darkness goes away. Just the way the brain works, I guess. I don't even need caffeine!

Straight for the past... month. I've went to sleep after 4 AM. And work wasn't keeping me up. A new life style I've picked up... Friends who work at the movies only have time to hang out after work. We can basically run a tab at Dennys since we go there like every weekend. Completely changed my way of living, as far as I know my old friends don't really know me anymore.

Denny's every weekend? Amateur! In my heyday, it was Denny's four or five times a week, with at least one night involving two separate locations.

My friends and I were full-on regulars at five or six different Denny's ... not hard to do when they're all over the place and there's a long commute between home, work, and school. Where ELSE is finals-cramming supposed to take place? (Like we ever actually studied, though!)

Phil: Thanks for letting me know that no one cares... It just encourages me more to rant...

I think going out is having a life and if you think differently about that... well I don't care. I've been hanging out with my friends for the past month at really late hours. Where as before I'd be at home having not much of a life.

I usually don't get home till about 1am when I close the theatre. 11pm when my manager closes. Currently I don't get paid to screen films (Does anyone?) I usually get to sleep at 2 at the latest and then up at 7.

And Phil, I regret to inform you that I had to get my Life removed in a painful personality operation several years back, stemming from the trauma I suffered living an overly-active social life. My doctor has recommended message board frequenting as therapy. It's kind of a touchy subject, actually. [Wink]

Well I spoke with the owner of my local Denny's and I now rent out that room in the back that noone is ever in. So I go to denny's all day everyday.....I would have to agree with Phil, whopee doo

Sleep is over rated anyway. Masturbation is MUCH more rewarding.

If you are asked or expected to screen the print, YES, you should be paid for it. No one is to screen, after hours, off the clock. Company policy. If your manager allows you to do so and expects you to correct/report any errors, then YES, you SHOULD be paid. If it is a mere good-will gesture, it's another story. ALL my guys get paid to screen what they build. I only pay ONE employee per screen, but at a mega, I always have a need for more than one screener anyway.
