It's official, the fans are calling.
Took them long enough.

This is an open discussion of why I (and any others) should be a moderator of this forum. It will be a numerical listing of short and concise reasons so that you do not get lost or confused.

If you do not find my initial arguments to be sufficient, I will add more. Again, though, I'm trying to keep this simple for you all.

1. I'm better than you. My presence here is a privilege you should all cherish.
2. I treat my inferiors with respect. Jealously of my greatness may occur. I am understanding of this and am here to help you cope with your inferiority complexes.
3. People say I have an aura of modesty that makes others want to be better people themselves.
4. I'm half Japanese, which means I'm stealthy (which means I can surprise attack you) and also adds to the racial diversity of the moderating team. This automatically makes the team a better, more well-rounded, and happier crew. I'm also from samurai nobility on my grandmother's side, which again comes back to me being better than you.
5. I like pizza.

Now it is up to you to let the admins know how much you want me to moderate (and therefore improve) this forum by responding here. With your help we (as in I) shall rise to the top.

Being one to share the fame, I urge any of you who feel that they have what it takes to moderate a forum (I've been admin/moderator of forums with over 4000 members..it's more work than it seems) to give their reasons here, as well.

Ryan, you claim that you’re of Japanese decent. I don’t believe anything you say until you have a member picture. Seems to me that you are trying to hoodwink all the Japanese members here into supporting you.

I would want to be a moderator only if I can BAN other moderators. So if that’s the case, here’s my argument.

As a self-acclaimed MOD elect, I only have one platform.
1. Ban JOE REDIFER. He has caused nothing but problems.

Gordon pegged how this works. Besides, no new person will be considered and most certainly NOT someone who hasn't had the courtesy to send in a member picture. Members with pictures always get preferential treatment over a member with equal number of (non-annoying/useful/entertaining) posts.

Mr Scott,
Since when is martial arts comprised of just one single move? Last I heard (not counting the praying mantis from the Karate Kid) martial arts was a combination of several different movements strung together in a fluid and dazzling fashion.
I'd also like to see the "five point palm exploding heart technique" defeat myself and my 16th century samurai sword.

And the surprise attack bit was more a play on Bill Parcels, Dallas Cowboy coach, who recently took flak for using "Japanese" as a name for his surprise attack, in reference to the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor.

Also, you didn't find a way to "shoot down" my samurai bit, which was also a part of the "mooted" (which is a funny word, I think) #4.

Actually granting Mod powers to newbies can be quite helpful. They go on a banning spree, and then we say he/she did it because they were new, and then we ban them. Of course we never unban the people that the newbie banned. It helps with the spring cleaning, so to speak.[av=q]

And I have my picture up, now, Nate, proving I have at least some sort of Asian in me (though some people have been known to guess Hispanic or Native American..). Since I guess it was too difficult for you to notice my heritage before, because, you know, we never work together or anything, you now have your proof (I like commas, apparently..).

It's a lot of work though, Joe, to type out all four letters instead of two. This way, as Homer showed us when he became obese and worked at home, he is doubling his productivity. Plus you still have to think of what to reply with, move your mouse all the way over to "Post Reply", click the left button, type, move all the way down to "Add Reply" and click the left button AGAIN! That's a lot to ask for from us lazy folk of this generation.

In fact, I recommend that we all just use the first letter of each word when posting. Here's what my post would look like:

The 'stigma' against them may stem from a certain level of homophobia (though pedophilia and homosexuality are NOT linked as far as I know). It may also stem from the belief-correct in my opinion-that there is no such thing as 'consentual' sex between an adult and a child. This may (may) be disputed for 'children' who have nearly fully matured sexually but I can see no grounds for dispute when one is talking about pre-pubescent youths-boys or girls.

So, it's really just Carl that you have issues with. He's the only person that didn't "slam" NAMBLA.

Jason introduced NAMBLA to the discussion -- and he's against it.
Floyd had never heard of the organization.
Paul only posted a link for Floyd's educational benefit
Dustin doesn't support it
Jason posted again -- with a reaffirmation that he's against it

Apart from you, Carl is the only remaining person with something to say on the issue of sex with underage persons.

I suppose that a single person is indeed "very few" but the term suggests "more than just one."

I'm not parnaoid about anything. I just think if you're going to take people to task on their beliefs that you should do it in a more straightforward and appropriate manner. That is to say, without resorting to innuendo on a public forum. As a moderator, one would hope that you of all people would understand that.

Joe Redifer has been temporarily removed from moderation since this directly affects him. While not directly related to this incident, Phil Hill requested yesterday that he be removed from moderation because he felt he could not honestly post his thoughts and feelings on the forums if he was a member of “management”. Joe will return to moderator status once I get confirmation from him that he is has no issues with this ruling and respects it, which I am confident he will.

Hopefully this was handled in a reasonably respectful way toward the members. If not, I apologize but it’s the best I could come up with to try and be fair towards everyone. Regardless, my rules are final here.

(For further clarification, no one to my knowledge has any issues with innocent gay-themed jokes such as the picture Michael Schaffer posted here. It’s all in good fun, just don’t be discriminating or disrespectful please. )

Joe, after reading your post, I am not the only person here who initially read your comment as a bashing against the many gay forum members.

Effective immediately (and put into the FAQ page once the wording can be determined), there are to be no malicious references to sexual orientation of any sort. Feel free to make jokes and such, but please make sure they are not done in a negative manner. Also, I might as well add it now before it turns up later, there are to be no malicious references to any person's handicaps or race either.

NAMBLA and the moronic term "teh ghey" has been added to the
censor filter and is not to be discussed.

Joe Redifer has been temporarily removed from moderation since this directly affects him.

While not directly related to this incident, Phil Hill requested yesterday before all this, that he be removed from moderation because he felt he could not honestly post his thoughts and feelings on the forums if he was a member of "management".

Talking about a law is a completely different issue than what A person said in X campaign and what B person is trying to pull in X negotiations and what C person is against but shouldn't be, blah, blah, blah. As far as I'm concerned, the line is crossed once political names or hints pointing toward them are used. (This is a general guideline. I'm sure someone will seek out a way to sneak it in anyway just because some people just cannot stand not forcing their political issues everywhere they go.)

When I'm dictator I will have a script that randomly changes "it's" to "it is" so people misusing the apostrophe will look stupid.

Now if Michael Schaffer can come up with a simple algorithm for his their / there / they're peave we could do that too.

I rarely see the word "to" used in place of two (quantity). But too is often omitted and just to is used. In fact, what is the proper form for writing the phrase: There are three forms of the word to.?

Now "can" and "may" are expressions most people don't get.

I'm a bit unclear on the hmmmm vs. hummmm issue. If I make a pondering noise it is best described by hmmmm, that is, the mmmm ("tastes good") sound but differentiated by being led by an h.

Right. "hmmmmmm" is for pondering. "mmmmmmm" is for something that is good. "hummmmmm" is what sound and video systems do when they don't know the words.

We don't really need all those M's in the word "hum."

And I agree -- "theatre" is perfectly fine and, to my eye, looks better than "theater." Whenever I see the word "theater" I end up pronouncing it "thee-AYT-err" which is just wrong.

People in this industry who use "theater" are a minority. The only group that uses "theater" regularly are the print media, and we know how often they're on the wrong track.
