Ok, on my dad's 'puter, we have some favorites in the links folder. We unlockthe toolbars at the top and rearrange them to where we can see the links at the top. When he exits out of the program, it rearranges them back in this order:

Menu Toolbar///////////////////Windows Logo
Standard Buttons/////////////Links
Address bar

We want it to be:

Menu Toolbar/////Links//////////Windows Logo
Standard Buttons
Address Bar

With the links the way they are, You have to click on an arrow to open them.

We have tried locking the toolbars, but that doesn't work.

Any ideas? [Shrug]

Have you thought about updating to the current version of MSIE? Once you lock the toolbars, I have no idea why it's reverting back on you.

It could be spyware doing the rearranging, they are notorious for messing with IE, they'll even force IE to go to some crap site when you launch the application.

This is just one possibilty.

I agree James. I use SpySubtract and it's always finding and zapping those low-life POS hijackers that are trying to redirect my home page and seach page.

Since I installed Zone Alarm, I haven't been having problems with unwarranted software changing things on me. They may be there, in fact I'm SURE there's spyware all over the place, but as long as they don't affect the way things run, it's not a high priority to get rid of them.

Okay, so the webmaster of www.allthenudebritneypicsyoucouldeverwant.net knows I go to his site everyday. Big deal. At least my browser doesn't open to anything other than "about:blank".

I heard the fellow who wrote the code for CW Shredder, the program that gets rid of the "about:blank" Cool Web Search hack, has made his last update of the program.

After some of the security updates Microsoft has released relating to IE and Outlook Express, I use those applications far less. Currently, I'm viewing this page using the Mozilla browser. I'm too cheap to pay $39 for the ad free version of Opera. There are some other free alternatives available as well.

One type of spyware/malware not in the news enough is phone dialers. I'm sure glad I have DSL and not a dialup connection. The other day a web page I was viewing tried sneaking the aconti.exe phone dialer into my machine.

IMHO, the situation with this spyware/malware bullshit is just going to keep getting worse and worse as long as our government (as well as those of most other nations) don't treat this stuff as very serious crime. In fact, I believe every instance of spyware being planted is an invasion of a computer user's privacy and a violation of the user's civil rights. But our government won't treat it like that since there are big businesses out there who want enough loopholes left open for their purposes of gathering marketing data.

Also, make sure that it's the only window that's open while doing the rearranging, and as a side possibility, try holding down Ctrl while clicking the 'X' to close the window. If there is more than one window open at a time while rearranging stuff, it won't always save changes made.
