Costner behind director's firing?

The World Entertainment News Network reports that Kevin Costner was behind the firing of director Ted Griffin on the Jennifer Aniston film based on "The Graduate."

The film tells the story of a woman (Aniston) who discovers that the movie "The Graduate" may have been based on her grandmother (Shirley MacClaine).

Rob Reiner has since taken over the project after Griffin departed. But gossip reports state that Costner clashed with Griffin on the set.

According to a source to gossip site Fly on the Wall, "It's totally Costner's fault, not Jennifer's. He was constantly in Ted's face about what he was doing wrong, criticizing him repeatedly about his setups in front of Paula Weinstein (one of the film's producers). He said several times loudly to anyone who would listen, 'This movie will take a year to shoot if you don't get rid of Ted.' It was more and more difficult for Ted to maintain any kind of respect from his crew with Costner constantly bitching at him around the clock. Finally, Ted asked Costner rather firmly, but not loudly, to return to his trailer. Costner screamed, 'I will not. Not until you change the lighting set-up like I told you."

These clashings reportedly riled Shirley MacClaine as well, who commented to co-star Mena Suvari, "There once was a time when actors respected their director." To which Costner retorted to MacLaine, "You keep out of this."

Sounds like the complete opposite of one of the approaches in "total quality management."

You never, ever criticise someone in a position of authority in front of others he leads. It must always be handled in private. This kind of thing is very crucial when it comes to military leadership. Any leader worth a shit does ALL ass chewing in private.

Aww, poor Kevin didn't get his way. Shirley McCaline, you rock for saying what you did and it's totally on the mark. Is Costner producing/writing the film anyhow? Isn't he just an actor in the film? Someon should put him in his place. Like Mr. Redifer says, violence solves everything. [evil]

You should look at Ted Griffin's film credits. He has never directed a feature, he is a screen writer.

The dallies from what I've heard from the lot were bad. [sleep]

Directors with lesser talent have been replaced many times before.
