This morning E-dawggg was riding his motorcycle and got cut off by a man in a SUV. Apparently the driver turned left in front of Ethan without looking (Ethan was watching him and said he never looked to see if anyone was in that lane). Ethan slammed on his brakes and went flying into the back door of the SUV at 20-30MPH head first, and also slammed his fun parts into the motorcycle.

The helmet saved his life, and although he is scraped up, fortunately the accident happened how it did because he was not wearing any other body protection. He was released from the emergency room this afternoon and is recouperating at home for a few days.

So get better Ethan, and remember to keep that ice pack on your balls like the doctor ordered or we will send Dr. Phil over to make sure your boys are doing ok. Also remember that the next time you get out on the road to have some body protection...like a car frame! [Razz]

Leather jackets and long, tough pants are good for bike riding, though they certainly can't protect all injury.

I can literally feel your pain, having been in lots of 'small' and two near-fatal motorcycle accidents myself. Long time ago.

Anyhow, all my best to you and yours, Ethan. Don't let the pain meds run out.

Yes, get better, fix your bike and then find the driver and pull up beside him doing a wheelie with your legs crossed and tehn shoot him/her in the head.

I have almost been in that spot at least a hundred times, on a few occasions I have even stopped before the other driver saw me and they jsut keep going not even paying attention to anything..

I really hope the ignorant SUV driver is found at fault for the accident. I see so many dumbasses making right and left turns and even U-turns without signaling.

Cellphone use in moving vehicles should be banned. Frankly I think it is worth a reckless driving ticket. We've had a rash of fatal car accidents in this part of Oklahoma due to people who selfishly insist on multi-tasking while driving. Cellphone use is the #2 cause of serious and/or fatal car accidents, right behind drunk driving.

As an occasional motorcyclist myself, Ethan you have my sympathies, been there, done that, as they say.

As a driver of an 'SUV'? (mines neither sport not utility) I would also like to ask all those who have replied to this thread; would it have made any difference if he had crashed into a Ford Focus? No it would not, flesh and bone vs steel is flesh and bone vs steel. It makes not one jot of difference if the steel is an SUV, Austin Mini, bus or truck, when you're talking about something as fragile as the human body impacting into something as heavy and solid as a car.

Here in the UK we have a specific road traffic offence for drving whilst using a hand held mobile phone. It is legal to use a hands free kit, however if you are involved in accident or commit another traffic offence whilst on the phone, even hands free, you could well face a 'driving without due care and attention' charge, which could have rather more serious consequences. It is however perfectly legal to drive whilst using a two way radio, I suspect this part of the legislation was designed to keep emergency services drivers legal, as they are not above the law.

It wouldn't make any difference what kind of vehicle turned in front of Ethan. However, there appears to a relation or ratio of vehicle size and level of driver ignorance. Not all drivers on the road are stupid. But it seems whenever you see a driver doing something stupid, he or she is usually doing it in a really big vehicle.

My poor 1992 Camaro was totalled a couple years by some guy who rear-ended me driving a Buick that seemed like the size of a tank. He was looking through his glove box for a CD when he smashed into my car. I was in physical therapy for a couple months thanks to that one.

I just wanted to say Thank you to everybody for their support. I am very grateful and fortunate to be here today. I am really glad that I was wearing my helmet. The Doctor said that the helmet did save my life and that I am lucky that I was able to walk away the way I did. Someone must have truly been watching over me. Anyways, I just heard word today that the bike is totaled. Yikes!!! Oh well, I will see what I have to do now. Anyways, thanks again for everybody's support and concerns as it does mean a lot to me. Thank you. I will try and see if I can take and post some pics if anybody is interested in taking a look at it. I might need to get a new profile pic too. Maybe I can just get Joe to replace the old bike with the wrecked one. Aight Ya'll. Oh yeah, and sorry for the lateness of my reply.

Hope you're ok. I missed this post. Haven't been on in days and now this.. When will folks in cars F'kn learn that they are NOT the only F'n people on the road?

What, because we're on bikes we become targets? Steel Toed boots do crazy shit to the side of a car who cuts you off...

At any rate, hope you're doing well. Hope the bike is repairable. If not, replace it. Get back on and ride. Don't let this keep you from riding, which you obviously enjoy.

Also, wear gear every time you ride. Like that helmet, it coudl make a huge difference in an emergency!

Ethan I hope you're feling better! This is the main reason I gave up riding a bike here in Dallas!

I didn't give up riding,just not here. I have also had my share of road rash and it only took a close call to start wearing head protection when I partially scalped my head.

After geting a chance to meet ya when you were working at the movie grill,

I'm very glad you are still here with us.

I hope you heal quickly, and your boys remain functional.

Ethan - good to hear that you're ok. Yeah it sucks that the bike got trashed, but that's the replaceable bit, the rider isn't.

It's awful that so many oblivious people are on the roads, we would all be wise to be as attentive as possible on the road, no matter what our mode of transport!
