Lexington Police say a man armed with a silver handgun robbed three employees of the Lexington Green Movies 8 Theater Tuesday morning as they arrived for work.

Police say the suspect was in the theater when the first employee arrived at around 11:15 p.m. That employee was robbed, and then two others were robbed as they arrived seperately at the theater. The suspect took the three into a bathroom and told them to wait 30 minutes before calling police.

The suspect is described as a black male of medium complexion, mid 30’s, approximately 5’7”, heavyset, with bald to short hair, a mustache, and wearing a dark pinstripe suit (possibly gray or black). 

There are no details on what the suspect made off with. None of the employees were hurt in the incident.

That is just not cool!

Several years back here in Salt Lake, a theater manager was robbed at gunpoint of his deposit as he exited the theater.

He then instead of heading back in to call the police, instead he got into his ford bronco (i think it was that) and RAN OVER THE ROBBER!!!

THEN HE CALLED the police.

I do not remember if the manager was charged or not.

Since I work at a movie theater in Danville about approx. 40-50 minutes from this theater, this is a bit of a shock to me. It's odd that I wouldn't had heard of this earlier. And I can't help but wonder how the robber got inside the theater and was waiting. Though, I guess the only way I'd have to worry about being waited on inside was if we were already opened, and even then we have cameras and stuff.

I remember several months ago the Carmike in Danville was "robbed" when the general manager was walking the nightly deposit across the parking lot to the bank. I say "robbed" because it's general belief among the former employees there (including me, though I didn't work there at the time) that she stole it. Too many things sound fishy.

But this story I take much more seriously. Just hope it doesn't become a "string" of robberies or anything.

Yes "Bad Santa" is current in its third week (as at 10/12/04) here in Australia for cinemas that opened it Day/Date.

And Mark - yes... despite the excessive foul language, its actually quite a funny film - I have to say that i did a fair amount if giggling.

I think it was a few years ago when I saw on the news that the local Regal Waterford Lakes theater was "robbed"...

The burglars decided to rob the theater early in the morning, I think 6 or 7 am, and made it inside through an unlocked door that the janitors used. They tied up the janitorial staff and searched the theater for money, of which there wasn't any since the deposit was made the night before and everything else was in the safe.

I think they ended up stealing some candy, and were gone by the time the staff got there to find the janitors bound and gagged.

I think it was in 2001 or 2002 the Wallace Mainplace Cinemas in Merced was attempted.
2 or 3 guys entered the building through the side or front door using a managers keys, they then entered the box office and the green room (directly off the box, where the money is counted behind a locked door and dropped in a drop safe to be picked up).
They then screwed up the code and got locked out of the safe.
The janitors coming in noticed someone in the box office and called police. The police then chased them out of the building through the projection booth and out an emergency exit. They were caught and prosecuted.
One of them now works as a manager at their theater in Hawaii.
How's that for ironic?

One of the theaters I managed got robbed back when I lived in Massachusetts, actually three theaters I worked at got robbed but this is just one of the stories... On a good note, out of the three theaters that got robbed, we caught the robbers from two of them.

Apparently the two masked men who robbed the theater waited until I left the lobby (I went to the bathroom) and robbed the box office employee at gunpoint on a VERY busy labor day right before I was about to take the next drop. They think one of the guys was a past employee because he knew too much about the operation not to be, unless they were staking the place out for a while, neither were ever caught even though we had them on camera.

The worst part is, when I came out of the bathroom some other employees came running over to me and told me that we were just robbed, I didn't believe them until I actually got over to the box office, it seemed like they were kidding. I still feel so bad for the guy in box, I'm still friends with him and we keep in touch now but just looking at him after that happened made my heart drop.

I found out today that it happened at the Cineplex Mid-Valley Theatre location in Taylorsville, Utah.... a burb of SLC and just a stones throw from where I first lived when I moved to SLC. Reportedly the guy did run the robber down but thought he had hit a speed bump which I can attest to there are alot of in that parking lot. At any rate its a good story to tell the cops and with all the bumps in that lot they couldn't deny that it couldn't have happened that way.....

The Mid-Valley Cineplex was demolished about three years ago.

Several years ago a manager of the chain I worked for (an art circuit in LA) shot a guy who tried to rob him and the female assistant. The manager was a reserve officer with the local police dept., a fact which the robber knew as he'd been to the theater several times. What a dumb ass!!

He said he was making a final sweep of the building in preparation to close up for the night when he discovered a man sitting in one of the theaters. Day was escorting the man to the front exit when the suspect demanded the theater's money, Newell said.

Money in hand, the robber asked Day to show him to the theater's rear exit. Day complied and was stabbed once after he showed the intruder to the back door, Newell said. The suspect then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 25 and 30, about 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a Jackson Hewitt NASCAR shirt, Newell said.

During the incident, a small fire was ignited in a trash can behind the concession counter, Newell said.

The building filled with smoke, and the sprinkler system was activated, putting out the fire, Newell said. It has not been determined how the fire started, Newell said.

"We're still very early in the investigation," he said.

Police say Christopher D. Day of Lexington, and manager at the Danville Cinemas 4 in Danville Manor, told them he was stabbed in the upper chest by an unknown assailant who demanded money after all the other employees and customers had left.

However, police now say the wound was self-inflicted and that Day will be charged with falsely reporting a crime. They say that Day is cooperating with investgators, and has returned the $1,350 that he said had been taken by the supposed assailant.

Police also say Day confessed to starting a small fire in the concession stand of the theater that caused the sprinkler system to activate.

Day is expected to be formally arrested Wednesday and charged.

How sad this young man would screw up his life, over just a bit of money (face it, $1,400 isn't a lot of money these days). Not to mention the scare an event like this would have on family and friends related to him and the other employees of the theater.

There just isn't any amount of money that would convice my brain to put a knife into my chest. I'm totally against being stabbed. (and shot)

That manager needs some serious help. I'm glad they got a confession pretty quick out of him.
