I would have to say that the most valuable poster in my collection is an original 'Young at Heart' poster from 1954 with my man Frank Sinatra and Doris Day. I love Frank Sinatra so I had to buy it. Other than that I also have a mint condition Batman (1989) that I've seen on some websites fetching about $400. I also have just about every Best Picture winner from the last 8 or 9 years that will probably be worth something when I'm an old bastard.

I don't have any really old movie posters; most date back to the early 1990s. One of the niftiest ones is a lenticular poster for "Species 2". I know it was a crappy movie, but the poster was cool (Natasha Hentridge changes from herself into a monster when viewed at different angles).

I have a big "Titanic" teaser banner with a Summer 1997 release date (the movie was pushed back to December 1997). That might be worth something.

There are some lobby poster dealers advertising in Big Reel magazine.

They state that some of the really sought after posters are worth upwards of $1 million or so.

No idea what its worth, but I have the 1989 reissue poster of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." It is on thick paper, has gold accents stamped onto the border and on Snow White's dress, and there's a gold-stamped "50th Anniversary" logo at the bottom. It's probably the rarest poster in my collection. My oldest is an original "Sound of Music." (1965)

I also have the complete set of character posters from "Space Jam!" Dumb movie, but cool posters, probably worth nothing I guess.

Nothing terribly valuable, except to me. I have a pair of original Japanese posters for the 1988 animated double bill of My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies. They are B1 size (approx. 1-sheet) and due to some use and wear, the pair is probably worth only about USD $300.

I have at least one B2 size (approx. half-sheet) poster for every Studio Ghibli film, ranging in value from $10 to $80 each. I also have all of the Japanese roadshow theater program booklets for these films. So not a lot of money is tied up in this stuff, but I didn't buy it for that.

Studio Ghibli is the core of my stash, but the stack of posters and pamphlets for other Japanese films (live action and animated) or Japanese posters/pamphlets of Hollywood films is slowly growing.

A long term goal: To have at least one poster for each of the 48 "Tora-san" films, produced between 1969 and 1996. It's Tough Being a Man! (Otoko wa Tsurai yo) is reputed to be the world's longest running series of theatrical film sequels.

I *THINK* I have that one too. In addition, I have the silver mylar (?) Snow White Advance Poster that is painted like the mirror so when you look at it, you see yourself. Sort of like the "Son Of The Mask" poster that was out recently. It has the tag line "Mirror Mirror On The Wall..." There's one on ebay right now here . Also have a mint Fantasia 50th Anniversary poster.

Just have one movie poster here on my wall. I got this on Ebay for $10. great deal for this poster. Original style-B one sheet from 1975. This poster is great, I hate the common "lips" poster.. but i guess that's common because most theatres didn't want to put this poster on display out front.

Debbie Does Dallas (found this one plus 50 other sexploitation posters at a garage sale and bought the whole thing for $80... Then made a profit of over $300 on most of them)

Italian Job 1969 (Little did I know this was a HUGE cult classic over in the UK. Sold a 3-sheet for $700.00 Kept my insert and Turkish one sheet)

Star Wars (found this one at an antique mall for $10!! someone didn't do their homework...)

Iron Giant (2 US, 2 British Quads, US banner and standee among almost all of the toys)

the Little Hut 1957 1/2 sheet with Ava Gardner

Empire of the Senses oversized Italian poster done by Rolland Topar

Very Private Affair oversized Italian with Brigit Bardot (heard the movie was dull but the poster is great)

Ultima Mondo Cannibal aka JUNGLE HOLOCOUST (oversized Italian poster with alot of gore)

The Black Hole 1/2 sheet (Loved the movie/loved the robots even more)

the oldest one I have in my collection is The Adventures of Ajj Baba 1/2 sheet 1954

When I worked in post-production we would put up framed posters for the films we'd worked on. New ones would go up in prime space and older ones shifted back down the hallways. I started keeping extras myself and I suppose I still have them in various conditions.

BTW, when the post house closed the poster collection was sold to the local Planet Hollywood restaurant. I have no idea if they ever displayed them or where they went when they closed.

Now at my own screening room I put up whatever I'm given if it looks interesting and I accept "dibs" from critics or neighbors and will give it to them when it comes down. Old ones tend to pile up. A while back I put out a bunch on a table and told people to help themselves. I'm too lazy to eBay posters one at a time. A long time ago I sold some enmasse...as many as I could pack into those square tube boxes. But I tried that again last year and there were no takers. They sat til I finally just gave them away to a schoolteacher friend. Getting even lazier the last time I got overwhelmed whatever was left after the table give-away went to the dumpster. I hate to do that.

While in Hollywood for the 3D Fest last year, I had considered getting a Kill Bill poster and having Tarantino sign it since he was there at the fest also, but decided against it because there were so many people there and I didn't want to subject him to everyone doing that.

A few of the banners that I have are "There's Something About Mary", "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion", "Space Jam" (w/ Bugs Bunny), "Spice World" and a big ass "Finding Nemo. I have a ton of other banners but those are the ones that first come to mind. Are banners worth more than posters? A few other posters that I have that might be worth something are "Good Will Hunting" (style A and also the Oscar style), "Shakespeare in Love", "Life is Beautiful", "Saving Private Ryan"...the list can go on and on. I have a ton of posters that aren't worth anything but I always try to grab posters that I know are going to be Oscar worthy. For instance, I just added "Sideways" to my collection.

I've been a paper collector for years concentrating on Serial Posters. My most valuable are probably "Drums of Fu Manchu" & "King of the Rocket Men". Years ago I "Rescued" a large quantity of original release 8x10 stills from a large theatre chain that had been in operation since the 1920's. They sat gathering dust in my filing cabinet. Recently, I decided to have a broker sell them for Me on eBay. One of the first ones out of the gate brought over $1000.00! To say I was flabbergasted would be an understatment. I Never knew those things could be that valuable.

Billy the Kid posters sit in the lobby as a display and so does she wore a yellow ribbon, A&C are in a poster window that faces outside but they are already in no shape for any collector anyway, but still look alright. The rest just stay in storage.

Valuable? Tough to judge, since they're all probably worthless.

I've got tons of torn, ripped, faded, and utterly uninteresting feature posters. Somewhere. But I know I have a teaser Mission: Impossible signed by Danny Elfman, and I think he signed my To Die For, too.

I've got a big banner for Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, which is probably my coolest one, so obviously I have a fairly drab collection.

As a joke, I kept the big banner for Ed, that dumb-ass Matt LeBlanc movie about the baseball-playing monkey. Ah, the good stuff!

My favorite is probably Fight Club or Adaptation. Most of mine aren't worth anything yet. Perhaps the first design of the Memento one sheet. A friend of mine worked for Summit and snagged both designs of the one sheet.

I only keep them from movies that win awards or I just really like. Occasionally I keep the posters that are cool, even if the movie sucks. I would love to have the original Godfather posters both 1 and 2. I'm sure many of the people here feel the same way.

I screened various effects for the Wachowskis before the first one came out; I had no clue it was going to be so huge. I'll have to scan the Super 35 framing leader.

I don't really "collect" posters, but I have kept a few for films that I've really enjoyed:

The Graduate (1997 reissue)
32 Short Films About Glenn Gould (1994)
Robot Stories (2002)
Starship Troopers (1997)
Gerry (2002)
Sky Captain (2004)
...possibly others...

Oh, and I have an original pressbook (with clip art) in marginal condition for Bonnie and Clyde. (found it in a theatre attic).

Not really anything worth more than ~$5 or so.

I have a few things that could be called 'collectible':

Titanic bus shelter (no release date, though I do have the 'summer' trailers and promo drink cups)

'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace' teaser signed by George Lucas

Disney's 'Song Of The South' (probably the '86 reissue, but with the movie's current status in the US I would assume it has some 'rarity' to it)

'Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan' US release (full credits, not a teaser) poster with no MPAA rating printed on it

Several 1960's 1/2 and 1/4 sheets of various titles...

A legal (no nudity) one sheet for the XXX film 'Passion Pit' featuring a then 16-year old Traci Lords... Unfortunately the value was reduced when it (and a couple other far less significant posters that were on the same wall) was used as a dartboard in a moment of complete drunken idiocy by some friends and myself (back when the poster was 'new' and one assumed that more were available)

As far as general collecting I do collect all movie posters with art by master movie-poster artist Drew Struzan...

Speaking of guys like Drew Struzan (or Richard Amsel, Bob Peak, Boris Vallejo, etc.), movie posters with actual artwork on them are very very rare anymore. Just about all you see these days in movie posters is BORING damned photographs of some pompus actor's melon! How about a f**king illustration for once!

I'm not sure what my most valuable poster is, but my favorite is the 1946 Dressed To Kill 6 sheet (84" square). It reaches from the ceiling almost to the floor.



Followed closely by Tom & Jerry from 1948:



Allison, you are an unusual women. Most women I have met think poster collecting is weird.

Have posters gotten smaller within fairly recent times? My backlit cases have a sort of magnetic clasp at the top which would be useful only if the posters were a few inches taller.

Yes, posters have shrunk about an inch since, i think, around the mid 1980's. The Empire Of the Senses poster that I showed everyone is an Italian 1 panel, or 2-sheet (two times the size of a regular one sheet). Posters before the 1980's were 27x41, now they've shrunk to about 27x40. Maybe someone thought that one whole inch of less paper would save the rainforest

They also don't make 3-sheets anymore (3 times the size of a one sheet) but vinyl banners and bus shelters have basically taken the place of the 3-sheet. Nor do you see Lobby Cards or 1/2 sheets (excluding the Lemminy Snicket give-aways).

VERY nice Dressed to Kill 6-sheet!!! Did you get that put on linen!!?? I dont' own any 6-sheets but I do own a few 3-sheets and one 30-sheet for Love Actually. Why do I have a poster that big is beyond me, probably just so I can say 'hey, I own a 30-sheet'. I dont know of any women that collect posters. I'm sure they are out there but all whom I have met are men so maybe that does make me a bit odd hehe.

Yes, Dressed To Kill is linen backed. The linen backing cost more than the poster. Although they are hard to display, I love 3 and 6 sheets (small house, big posters). My favorite 3-sheets are It Came From Outer Space, Zombies On Broadway and A Night To Remember, all of which have great artwork.

I remember walking into a book store many years ago, and they had an entire wall covered with an original release Star Wars 24 sheet. Unfortunately, they want more money than I could afford.
