I have been told that there was a kit to convert the lamp in this light from the 1000 watt quartz to a metal halide. Altman's site doesn't indicate anything. Does anybody know anything about this?

The older dynaspots have been c6nverted t6 a verticle hmi lmap before I think back in the 80's I did about a dozen with a kit we fabricated ourselves
The Q1000's reflector has a relatively small hole in the back so finding a arc tube to fit through it without high voltage flying off might be an issue
the alternative is to use a integrated reflector style lamp Osram makes a HMI450 watt that is similar in shape to the old marc350 (not interchangable though)

When I was at GTS I worked on quite a number of them... both versions. All you'd need to do is to buy the parts manual and order what ever parts you need. The housing is basically the same. About the only difference is that you'll have white light output instead of the normal dingy yellow light. But in either form its a very unimpressive spotlight so you might want to think twice and look around at others first. You might scrounge around for a used comverted Super Trooper(the older arc variety only). The new versions have been "Stronged".
