Hmmm. I wonder if there isn't a little 3D and Adobe After Effects rotoscoping happening in that clip. Sorry for being just a little bit of skeptical smart ass, but that stunt is extremely dangerous. I think the girl has to be certifiably insane to try that manuver for real.

Outtakes? I hope not. Pretty good chance for broken bones, such as a fractured skull, neck or back.

For funny, yet good shots: Bounce the babe off of the ceiling. Have your angle set at minus (-) 8.4 degrees with full power and she smacks the ceiling, then "swooshes" the net every time.

Have your angle at plus (+) 65 degrees full power and send the babe through the window for the dumpster shot. (LOL)

Does the really go through the hoop? I don't know how to save that file and look at it frame-by-frame, but it looks a little like she is actually passing in front of the hoop. Maybe somebody is pulling the net on a string in that moment. It also looks like she is not at all straight at the moment she would be passing through the hoop.

Unfort, it's in Macromedia format, which is the streaming format.

There is a program that I have, that can capture Macromedia video and I have this on my machine. This .. basket1.swf .. file is 4.2Megs in size.

This file is a hidden file and I had to go into "My documents and settings", then goto the menu bar above to "view" and then "show hidden files", goto "temporary internet files" and you'll see a list of directories in alpha/numeric form, then click on each directory and find this file above. But, you'll have to copy this file to a set directory that you have. You can't move it for the file is being used by the browser.

Trick is to not close your browser if you have your browser set to clear temp files when closed. Just minimize the browser and goto explorer to extract this file.

Go here and look at the images, frame-by-frame. Make your own conclusions.

..looks like a "swoosh" to me. But it looked like the 2 frames before last, the rim was hit, for it looks like it is leaning to the left. Also, it looks like she "slid" in the rim being that her toes are touching the inner lip of the rim.

..still was amazing and interesting though.

I believe that she went through. The flash allows you to step frame by frame. I found it interesting that her hands went through without catching the net. It seems like she hit the back of her head on the rim on the way through.

Leo, have you seen the game that goes with this? Knowing of your fondness for people who talk endlessly on mobile 'phones. If you pick up the cheerleader and throw her really hard to the left, and slightly upwards, she will hit the airship thing, and as it explodes it will throw her the whole length of the arena into the woman with the 'phone. Two targets met, and two iritating life forms disposed of in one go. [Big Grin]

To get the 'Dumpster shot' you have to throw her out of the window on the far right; you then hear sounds of her being savaged by a dog outside. It's like an updated version of popular entertainment for the masses; the Romans threw Christians to the lions; we can throw cheerleaders to the wild dogs. I'm not normally a video games person, but this one is really strange.

My best score so far is all ten targets hit in nine shots.

By the way, why is there an airship thing in a basketball arena?

The folks who put together the video can make you believe she went through without her actually risking life and limb to do it. It's really not all that difficult, relatively speaking.

First, you record some reference plates of the basketball backboard. You could even go so far as to video tape objects getting tossed through the hoop. After that, remove the hoop from the backboard and have the cheerleader team do their tricks. You record a bunch of takes and use the one that seems to line up the best. The real magic happens in post production. You use some 3D animation software to digitally insert the basketball hoop. With some "rigging" work on the hoop and net you can animate it to behave just like a real net when something falls through it.

I think the fact that the video is pretty low rez would help CGI trickery work even more convincingly.

Granted, I don't know absolutely for sure if the video was a CGI stunt or if they really did it for real. However, for someone to do that kind of trick in real life it would take precision stunt work better than the caliber of work done be Cirque Du Soleil or at least some very extreme good luck. I can't underscore enough just how dangerous such a stunt would be for anyone to attempt.

The reactions of the people afterward make the whole thing look more realistic than anything. I agree the girl was a complete lunatic if the thing is indeed real.

Snopes apparently has some discussions going about the clip but the jury still seems to be out on this.

It is very common these days for CGI effects to match perspective in hand-held style camera shots. With techniques like photogrammetry, for all we know the entire basketball court could have been digitally created. The stunt people could have been performing in front of a green screen.

Back in 1993 with "Jurassic Park," I was really amazed by the CGI shot of the T-Rex chasing Jeff Goldblum. The live action plate was hand held, yet certain techniques helped drop the T-Rex into the shot and match perspective throughout. I thought it was a great visual trick, even though there is a visual flaw in it. A noticeable color shift happens when T-Rex roars and starts after Jeff Goldblum. Obviously it is the edit point starting that portion of CGI.
