Hello

This printer is an Epson Stylus Colour 760, and here's the problems I've been having with it:
1. The ink cartridges were out, so we replaced them. We use the non name brands, never had a problem.
2. It won't print anything. Multiple head cleanings, etc. Not one drop of ink on any sheet.

Any idea what cold be holding me back from enjoying my paper archieves?

I had one of these turkeys given to me. We found the head cleaning "felt pad" to the right of the carriage had peeled off and obviously did not clean the head. We tried everything to get it back on with no luck so I threw it out the window. I bought an HP and have been a happy camper ever since.
Epsons suck!

I have an old (by today's standards) HP Deskjet 882c. It's still happily printing page-after-page without a problem.

Epsons tend to clog the heads after several runs of ink. Epson will claim its because you used after market cartridges, but a friend who runs a printer business says that's BS. Buy an HP. The head is part of the cartridge.

Andrew - maybe the ink carts you're using were old and are clogged. I had that happen once with ink that was on the shelf too long. Try new carts as a last (expensive) resort.

Andrew, I have the epson stylus c40ux and it did the same. Apparently there is a smart chip on the cartridge, you need to change the ink when the computer reminder tells you to, I had to use the printer over and over until the screen came up again that reminded me to change then put in the new one again and it worked. Hope this is helpful [beer]

Try the epson service utility - http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml - scroll down to the bottom of the page to download.

Lets you mess with the ink level counters etc in the printer. Almost a must if you are unfortunate enough to own one of those POS printers.

Thanks for all the replies... I've been fooling around with it, but then when I was at Wal-Mart yesterday, I returned the no name cartridge, and for about $10.00 more, got a decent LexMark printer that included ink and photopaper, but no USB cable. Still, this one works pretty well.

You always get what you pay for. We were forced to buy a new printer at the theater. We now have an HP PSC 1210 with the following unexplained phenomenon:
On certain print jobs out of our ticket program (reports and such) it stops every 2 or 3 pages with the message "paper jam"...Thing is there is no paper jam!

I had an HP 697C that I bought in 1999 when I went online with WebTV. It ran perfectly. I let it go when I bought a real computer. The new replacement HP printed 7 pages of a manual and died. HP wanted $100 to replace the logic board... more than it cost NEW!

I was given a Canon bubble jet printer that was new in 1995. I was suspicious, since I didn't have an install disc for it. But, when I plugged it up, the computer recognized it! It works just fine, slow, but fine.

The 697C is working fine for the woman that got it from me. She prints pages of jokes, and recipes daily. I'm sorry I gave it to her. [Smile]

After the crap experience with the HP service people, I dont think I want to do business with them again. The printer was 2 weeks past the warranty.

LOL yeah I looked at a 'cheap' Lexmark in Ireland, was 30 Euros, no USB cable with it.... PC WOrld wanted 20 Euroes for a cable! Suddenly it didn't seem so cheap.

Did you try unpluging it waiting a while a plugging it back in(the power) maybe it just needs to reset its self.

and on the note of a paper jam message, I had a program in high school that would send a message to any printer with a LCD status panel on it, that was connected to the network (it only worked on Novell Networks)so I would just put "Paper Jam" or "Out of paper" on one and just sit and watch the stupid kids go and try to figure out the problem. [evil]
