Nice idea except that I can barely read the white type on my LCD computer monitor. You may want to consider making it a bit more readable... unless of course there is stuff there that you don't want us to read..... [Eek!]

I've got 2 of those thingys.... sort of annoying at times but its alright for networking.

For my music:
http://myspace.com/jenniferpan

Personal myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/panjenn

Honestly, not to rag on anyone who does spice up their Myspace page but its sort of annoying how those can be. I know it personalizes it and what not but for people who have ghetto computers or want to actually read someone's profile its better to have it simple as possible. I keep coming across pages that require a plug in or has some video playing or something slowing down the loading... so yeah... I'm just not a fan of it.

There are a lot of times when certain peoples pages are not accessible for some reason or other. Its a nice idea and all... But definitely something needs to be fixed when pretty much every other day the site is either down or peoples pages are going under some maintenance fiasco.

And the way people message on there.... its as if they copy and paste their message and send them out to everyone. Or people will try to add me as their friend when I don't even know them.

Its kinda funny because I had never heard of 'My Space' until recently and that is because a lot of the kids here at the theater have a my space account. In fact, they have an area devoted to AMC employees.

Unfortunately, a large portion of this space is devoted to talking bad about others. Both managers and other employees come under attack.

It seems that the particularly evil posts are from the teenage girls talking about other girls. [Roll Eyes] The managers are (usually) mature enough not to care too much about what these kids are saying but it does cause some strife among the employees.

This is mostly just an annoyance, but there have been some situations where a post bordered on a threat (i.e. "I wanna kick BLANK's ass"). Also, these kids are pretty stupid to write some of the things that they do, as if no one would see it.

Also, I cannot even fathom the desire to make all sorts of my personal information available to strangers. (I know this forum does that to some degree, but not like what is going on at My Space.)

In case anyone cares:

quote: News Corp.'s $580m for MySpace not good enough
Not so fast, Rupert Murdoch. His $580 million takeover of MySpace parent Intermix is being met with plenty of opposition from his bought out shareholders.

Apparently for some, $580 million wasn't good enough. They wanted $1 billion and have filed suit against Intermix claiming they shafted shareholders with the quick deal by undervaluing MySpace.

What is it, exactly? An easy-homepage kinda thing?

MySpace personal http://www.myspace.com/brimiwei

MySpace music http://www.myspace.com/bri

Yep, it's just an easy-homepage kind of thing. Add 10,000 different kinds of ways of leaving a message for someone, or a group of people.

I still don't know why it's so "addictive". I mean, I log on every day, but it's just to "check my messages", no different than my main e-mail account. If ANYTHING has been left for you, a comment on a picture, your blog, your main page; a new blog by someone you subscribe to, a new invitation, a new message, etc., then a nice red, boldface tag tells you. Oh, there's instant messaging, and forum threads, and groups to join, and games. If nothing's new, you log off. WHAT'S SO ADDICTIVE?

With a "band" account, you can upload your songs and people can stream them, comment on them, rank them, request you as a friend because of them ... what's so addictive about that?

Apparently, NO ONE visits their own homepage; or at least no one has ever taken Basic Webdesign 101. I haven't seen so many background-image/text-color contrast issues since 1995! It's really easy ... REDUCE the contrast on your background, and then make sure your text is on the OTHER end of the luminosity scale! Simple!

Auto-playing videos are annoying, only because I tend to have my OWN media player playing music, and multiple browser windows open, and the videos are nested somewhere in the HUGE column of friend comments. "ACK, where's that COLDPLAY coming from!?!"

quote: Carey Barber
Unfortunately, a large portion of this space is devoted to talking bad about others.
I've NEVER personally seen this on MySpace. But then, I avoid the groups and forums, which is where I assume this happens. Oh, and I don't tend to add 16-18 year olds as friends (not that I get "requests" to be their friends, but still).

I must go. I have to log back on to see if I have any comments on my new pictures yet! None? Oh, well, I'll check again in an hour. Addictive? [Roll Eyes] [Razz] [Big Grin] [Wink] [thumbsup]

I didn't know anything about Myspace until it was mentioned in connection with a murder case in neighboring Lancaster County, Pa. It made national news when an 18 year old killed the disapproving parents of his 14 year old girlfriend, and the couple went on the lam. Both kids had pages on Myspace, and after the boyfriend was arrested, a bunch of people posted pictures of his arrest on his own page. Surreal.

I fail to see what makes myspace/livejournal/xanga/etc. any different from the standard personal home page that was the trendy thing a decade ago (and which some of us still have today). In both cases, you have the standard stuff such as "here's some boring crap about me, here are some pictures of me and my friends, and here are some links to web sites I like." Sure, the newer formats are a bit slicker, but the basic concept seems pretty much the same to me.

Something written by Ryan Luby (a FT member that hasn't made a post since his defunked run to be a moderator) about Myspace homepages popularity and people's desire to make the backgrounds the same color as their text.

The link is here if you care.

Myspace really is just an online popularity contest and doesn't really serve too many useful purposes, but it's a good way to waste time, so I try not to complain too much. The thing that I hate most about Myspace are the homepages of all those who not only use HTML programs to "enhance" their homepage (making it unreadable..I really do love having to highlight the entire page just to read your "About Me" and your favorite bands..thanks), but also seem to think that it's great to add their favorite music video to their homepage, as well....

Just to see what the fuss is about regarding MySpace, I just posted my profile. Friend me up so that page doesn't seem so pathetic. Maybe when I get some time I can dress up the page just a little.

There seems to be a proliferation of other pages social networking sites like this. One that seems fairly interesting is Yelp! It's main purpose is a 'blog for people to post reviews about all sorts of stores, restaurants, clubs, movie theaters, etc. Every reviewer has his/her profile. The somewhat unique angle on this, if you're using it to find new friends or dating interests, is you can get a better idea about a person's likes or dislikes (and your potential compatibility with that person) based on his/her reviews. The downside of Yelp is it tends to only work best in cities with a large amount of participation. If you live in a smaller city you could wind up being one of very few people posting any reviews. Friendster and Tribe are now adding the reviews idea.

Bobby, you have several mistakes on your MySpace page that must be corrected IMMEDIATELY!

-Your picture is not one of you making a weird face but instead you looking directly at the camera. Normal, sane pictures are not allowed. A popular option is the taking-a-picture-of-yourself-in-the-mirror technique. People LOVE to do this because they can not figure out the timers on their cameras.

-It does not seem Emo. You need to be Emo to be on MySpace. Talk about only the crappy things in your life.

-You don't have music playing and a whole bunch of "flair". You need to make sure that you totally bog down the browser of any unfortunate soul who visits. You also need to have text that overlaps onto images and generally make sure that it is very diffcult to read the page.

There are more mistakes I'm sure. But fix these first if you want to be popular on MySpace.

You need to make your page look more like this one which is an average example of MySpace.

I must disagree, that example page doesn't have annoying loud music or a background that blends in with the text. That's one of the BEST examples of MySpace, not an average one.

Other than the advertising banners, the site content and "gayeity" [Roll Eyes] is completely dependent on the people who participate. If one were to browse only my profile and the profiles IMMEDIATELY accessible from my own Friends List (perhaps with a few exceptions [Wink] ), then you would probably have a much different view of what the site is and does, than if you Browsed someone random and started clicking randomly through teenagers' profiles.

It's all in the comments and blogs ... and so the sophistication of the user is the only hope that place has got!

Does anyone remember Firefly from several years ago? 1996, '97-ish? I think that format was the precursor to MySpace: the internet-within-the-internet that allows everyone their own "site" and the means to integrate and link them up with others, and to revel in the community of it. I remember liking the look of Firefly ... stylish on its own, but customizeable to a certain degree.

Posted by Bobby Henderson (Member # 840) on 01-29-2006, 02:00 PM:

There's two reasons why my profile is plain looking.

1. Usually I spend just about all my creative energy on my day job. Any left over gets spent on some freelance stuff. I do need to take more time out for myself to make some personal projects.

2. It's not really clear how one can customize one's own page. As far as I can tell, you have to upload images elsewhere (on other websites) and then just HTML link to them. Not a very clean approach. I prefer to upload images locally to the same web server. It keeps broken links down to a minimum. I'll probably just post some artistic stuff in my Photos gallery. If anything, I may do a little different stuff to the type via CSS, but it seems to look okay for now.

In the few times I've messed around with MySpace, it seems to be quite a lot more active than Tribe or Friendster. Lately, Tribe has really been in a state of decline, but I check on a number of graphics related discussions there from time to time. Friendster has been a big fat goose egg. Damn that thing runs slooooowwwww. I think it must originate from the Phillipines or something.

By comparison, my MySpace profile has already been viewed a bunch of times and I've received notes from people I don't even know hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Got a couple notes from some pretty ladies nearby though.
[Big Grin]

Naturally, I'm giving priority to friending up fellow Film-Tech-ers.

The most prominent way I've seen people editing their page (beyond recognition, functionality, and taste!) is with "Thomas' MySpace Editor". There are apparently many versions, and a Google search would reveal the links.

As for adding graphics and whatnot to the main profile, I just host them all on my own website and link via html. No broken links there, though ... I know what I'm loading on my own site. Plus, I'm the one paying for the bandwidth, and I'm coming nowhere NEAR maxing out, so I might as well use it.

Damn! That's one hell of a bandwidth hogging profile! My DSL connection can download as fast as 3 million bits per second. But I gave up on loading that screwed up profile page after about a minute.

It wasn't the crushing amount of photos to download. The real big turnoff was the absolute cacophony of numerous audio tracks all trying to play at once.

The CIA could probably use that profile page as an instrument of torture to pry secrets out of terrorists.

The first time I heard that "emo" term, it made me think of that wierd comedian Emo Phillips. Funny thing is the folks following the "emo" fad kind of dress like the guy.

I guess "emo" is supposed to be a newer, yet less depressing version of "goth." Anyone who is going to proclaim through both music and fashion how EMOtional they are, should also be sensitive to the download limits that translate as sane. I shouldn't need a research university class 100Gbit/sec Internet connection to download a damned page. The page should not require a month's worth of reading to comprehend it all either! Gawd!

Posted by Jennifer Pan (Member # 2035) on 02-19-2006, 11:21 PM:

Emo sites can be tolerated because as soon as I see one I stop the browser from loading all that crap and go on to the next page.

The thing that bugs me for some reason are the "View More Pictures". And this usually happens with the people I went to high school with. I go to that part of the page and its a free for all on how many pictures they can take with them holding some type of alcohol in their hand. Nothing against booze in general but I've just seen so many of those type of pictures coming from people I grew up with or at some point thought they were cooler than that. But I guess that's the cool thing to do, and flaunt around how much one can party.

Myspace is fun, but i'm more annoyed with the fact that i keep getting the screen saying "server too busy" when i try to do something than I am with people with unreadable text because it matches the color of their background, or people with multiple songs that drive you crazy.

I don't understand why MySpace is the system being promoted so much by the media. LiveJournal is superior for getting to know friends and keeping a journal that friends actually read (and so you learn much more about people through reading their posts rather than simply seeing pictures and chain letters and quizzed on the bulletins). I'm "chrisobfuscate21718" on there (take out the obfuscate since I try to keep my real name and screen name off the same page) (and that's my ID on MySpace too). I keep a MySpace just to keep up with the friends who use it rather than LJ, but LJ has my main social group on it, and in Huntsville, AL, there is a large LiveJournal community.

I got an email saying someone had sent me a "private message" from myspace (I had joined just so I could look at the alumni from my high school) and so I clicked'er up, and it tried to install a Trojan virus on my computer. Fortunately Sheriff McAfee stopped it at the gate.

Another fun site ruined by idiots.

I completely turned off e-mail notifications of MySpace messages and whatnot, and I don't get anything at all in my regular Inbox about MySpace. As far as the messages within the MySpace account go, even if they're from users I don't know, there are never any blind links that would do that.

It's because of you that I have that insane chick messaging me.

Posted by Mike Blakesley (Member # 26) on 03-14-2006, 02:15 PM:

Well here's what exactly happened. I got this email saying I had a private message. So I clicked on the 'link' and got the usual myspace sign-in page. Signed in, and then this other page tried to load with a message asking if I wanted to install Macromedia viewer (which I already have), so that made me suspicious. I clicked "NO" to the install, then the screen went blank except for a small dialog box saying, "you must click YES to continue." So I X'd out of that box, then it returned to the same Macromedia install dialog again. X'd out of that (rather than clicking No) and got the "you must click YES" box again. So I used "task manager" to totally get out of all Explorer windows and that's when McAfee popped up and said a program had tried to install a "suspect" file and I should scan all my files. So I scanned, and it found one "trojan" file. So I'll leave it to you computer dudes to decide what happened -- I just deleted the suspect file and all is well. (So far.)

Sorry about that Joe, actually she might be fun, you ought to write back!

Hey, that crazy chick contacted me in the first place, unsolicited. The profiles she views beyond me are in no way my fault, or my responsibility. [Razz] But I'll still apologize. She doesn't bug me nearly as much as it seems she's been bugging you. You must have something special, Joe! [thumbsup]

And yes, that was probably a fake sign-in page. I get e-mails about account stuff from "PayPal" and "eBay" and things, and I NEVER log in using the links the e-mails provide. Too easy to counterfit those. I guess MySpace is no different. Just log in through your browser's bookmarks.

Why do I feel the need to kick her ass... its almost instinctual.

Brian, I believe she is really a man who wants to be an attention whore. So would you still call a man a whore, is that word considered "unisex" in this context?

Who spends that much time looking at everyone's friends and then try to become friends with their friends?

And why the hell would I be-friend someone I've never heard of in my life. There's a huge difference when its a band or celebrity or even to network(not the bullshit networking)... but anything else besides that is just kinda like creepy stalker territory. Especially when they keep messaging you or posting comments.

Geez, she's not THAT bad! I'm sure she's not a man. She's no crazier than Joe, though. [Razz]

Yes, the term "whore" is applicable to any individual who exhibits whoredom, male or female. In certain circumstances, as well, a man can be a bitch, and a chick can be one of the guys. It's quite simple, really. [Big Grin]

Half the fun is browsing through random people. Now, I don't happen to add any old person who looks "cool" to be my Friend, but neither do I fault people who do, who "collect" Friends. Everyone needs a hobby. [Wink]

Has anybody checked out, or made the most of, this whole Videos uploading section yet? I only just now got around to upgrading to the latest Flash so I could even see any of them. Other than randomly browsing through 13-second clips of 13-year-olds doing skateboard stunts, as interesting as I'm sure that sounds, I don't see much interest beyond that.

Recently, I have started receiving odd and seemingly anonymous notes from what I believe are fake profiles on MySpace. Two notes yesterday were identical, but from two different profiles -both of which were fakes (no photo, no friends, etc.). The notes said something to the effect of "my friend thinks you're cute, click here to add her as a friend." Screw that.

Although I use Firefox rather than the security prone IE, and do most of my web browsing from a guest login with no administrator priviledges, I'm still not clicking a f**king link some retard I don't know is sending me. Basically, they need to say what they need to say right up front without hiding anything or F.O. Most normal people operate by that procedure. Scumbag criminals do not.

Posted by Jeremy Jorgenson (Member # 2989) on 03-15-2006, 03:14 PM:

I always submit those as spam (and never click on what they want me to link to).

There's also the "you remind my friend of her first boyfriend ... he died ... she wants to talk to you but is freaked out" email that I've gotten from a number of random people (and no, the "friend" isn't the same person, so it's a scam of some sort ... not sure what though).

==

as for adding random people ... I thought that was sort of the point, or at least that's how I've treated myspace. Sure I have friends from the "real world" as my friends there too, but if I really wanted to communicate with them, I'd call or email them, not through myspace. For that same reason, I don't put my "real life" friends in my Top 8 ... that's for myspace friends ... dunno, does that make me a creepy stalker? [Razz]

Really it isn't much different, other than just being different by name. MySpace seems to have more server firepower than Tribe or Friendster (those two, especially Friendster, were excruciatingly slow).

Yelp! is one social networking thing that just hasn't seemed to take off (perhaps over the current MySpace hype). The main purpose of that site is cataloging reviews of restaurants, movie theaters and various other local businesses. However, you could take a look at one person's reviews and get a better idea of their interests and personality. The not so secret purpose of all social networking sites is FREE online dating. You're just making friends without the fear of coming off like "yeah, I'm a loser and paying $30+ per month at an online dating site." So anything that could provide some kind of gauge on compatibility would be a plus.

I don't think anyone who pays a subscription to an online dating service is necessarily a loser, but many do seem at least a bit embarrassed about using such a service. Social networking sites are less obvious in that regard.

Posted by Brian Michael Weidemann (Member # 2243) on 04-09-2006, 05:57 PM:

For an applicable definition of "loser", I think that one who has failed to succeed in meeting someone in person has "lost" in that venue of competition. I'm a loser in that arena! And, so, I have profiles on several of those sites, and MySpace happens to be amongst them. [Cool] Now, as for paying subscription fees? Oh, now, well, then, OBVIOUSLY you're a loser! Gotta love that buzz-term, "social networking". Didn't some pedophile get busted for using Myspace to track down what he thought was a young girl, but instead was a group of teenage boys that created a false profile? Of all the profiles I've read on match and yahoo, only maybe 1 out of 10 mention that they are wary of the process of online dating, etc. Most of them say they are sick of the bar/club scene and want to try a different venue to meet people.

Teens Arrested for MySpace Extortion

LOS ANGELES, May 25, 2006 - Two New York teenagers were in police custody Wednesday facing illegal computer access and attempted extortion charges after they allegedly threatened to shake down the popular Web site MySpace.com unless its operators paid them $150,000, prosecutors said.

Shaun Harrison, 18, and Saverio Mondelli, 19, of Suffolk County, N.Y. allegedly hacked into the social networking site and stole personal information from MySpace users.
After MySpace booted them from the site, the pair threatened to distribute a foolproof method for stealing information unless MySpace paid them $150,000, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Mondelli and Harrison were arrested Friday when they traveled to Los Angeles to allegedly collect the payoff. Instead, they were taken into custody by undercover officers from the multi-agency electronic crimes task force who posed as MySpace employees.

Each was charged with two felony counts of illegal computer access and one count of sending a threatening letter for extortion and attempted extortion. They face more than four years in prison if convicted of all charges, prosecutors said.

Mondelli and Harrison entered not guilty pleas at their arraignment Tuesday. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge set bail at $35,000 and set a preliminary hearing for June 5.

MySpace.com, owned by News Corp., allows users to post photos, blogs and journals and create networks of friends.

Not pay them the money, or moreso do anything at all about it? To hell with that! I say throw them into a federal penetentiary with extremely violent, hateful criminals and submit them to getting raped horribly up the butt for the next 1000 years. Yes. 1000 years. Let their bones get dry raped for 900 years long after they're dead.

It is way past time for the law enforcement community to do something about online crime. Computer-based crooks need to get sledge-hammered already. They think they are invulnerable. Well, I think they need the legal shotgun blast to the face (figuratively speaking) for their ill-doings. I'll be more than happy to turn in anyone I know conducting such crimes since that nonsense pisses me off so badly.

Yes. I said it. Ass raped. Those crooks deserve it. No lube either.

My comment was simply designed to show my general disdain for the whole Myspace thing. A more useless site I've never seen. It's turning into a big shill-fest of advertising.

I do agree that net-crime-committers could do with a good butt-jamming.

While I agree that many people use Myspace as a form of advertising or downright spam; as to it being a useless site, I have to disagree strongly. I get quite a good bit of practical use out of it, not just brainless 'time wasting'. I've always been interested in foreign languages, and am usually enrolled in a language class or two ... I find people on Myspace from a country that speaks the language I'm learning and get legitimate practice that has on more than one occasion helped me out in class.

You know, there doesn't seem to be any more advertising on there than there was two years ago. The same blocked out portions of the pages advertise the same five or six things over and over, and that was always the model.

The only exceptions are that "products" get their own profiles now, which people can add as friends and that just generates hits. Oh, and the HUGE X-Men: The Last Stand campaign (which was unavoidable, considering who owns the site) which claims you can up your Top 8 to a Top 16 or Top 20, just by adding the X-Men profile to your Friends list.

It's easy enough to ignore that crap.

As for the site as a whole being useless? It's connected me with more people from my past (who I wanted to connect with again!) than my main website, my e-mail accounts, whatever listings I have in whatever Internet White Pages type sites are out there, etc., have done in the last 10 years.

It's a networking site that's branching out further, and more effectively, than any Internet system currently in use, has it not? Wasn't that the goal, or at least the logical inevitability, of the idea behind connecting one computer to another?

I would say yes. Now, does that, in itself, make MySpace evil, as many claim? Well, THAT is the debatable point. I can see both sides of it. I just hopped on this bandwagon a little earlier than most, when it was still innocent, so it still seems innocent to me, and perhaps I'm biased. Can't I see that "Tom" is trying to take over the world? Nope! I'm completely oblivious to that fact. [Wink] [Razz]

After MySpace went down a few days ago, reportedly because of the heatwave, and after their recent maintenence, I know a couple of people who came back to find that their pages had been basically reset so that their background image and any videos they had posted on their page had completely disappeared.

The only users this seemed to affect were users whose pages had a specific type of political content (that I won't mention to avoid political discussion).
Many of them think it has something to do with MySpace trying to "censor" certain types of politial views and using the maintenence and being temporarily knocked out as a cover, basically allowing themselves to say "oops, sorry" once they come back up.
I'm not so sure this is the case, though.

I didn't look too long, but I looked at some users who also use their space for the same purpose and they were either unaffected or their material was wiped out but restored without them having logged back in.
I checked a few that I knew were not political, and they seemed unaffected.

Have any of you (or anyone you know) who have videos on your pages that are NOT political had the same problem?

Have any of you (or anyone you know) who have videos on your pages that are NOT political had the same problem?

For a short time on Sunday or Monday my profile was reset save for the tagline, views counter, and pics. (no political content or videos on my page) While 'reset' the last login date read 1/1/0001, the correct date returned after the page restored.

It came back completely as it was after several minutes.

Several other pages, most of them non-political had similar problems.

What is up with this site lately... I know it's free but it's sucked ass. Are they transferring over to a new server?

LiveJournal is a superior blog site, and that's where I keep my main blog, but MySpace gets use from me because so many of my friends only use MySpace.

The problem with using MySpace to communicate with others to plan short-term events is you never know when it's going to be down or when bulletins or messages won't be working, and the site seems to have the most problems when people would need it most for such things: Friday nights and during the weekend. I remember for weeks in a row, being unable to use it on Sunday night, and lately, Friday and Saturday night has been just as bad.

myspace = pain

but im addicted somehow, also anyone really use that myspace IM thing?

**Sigh**

Here's mine:
http://www.myspace.com/joeredifer

I'm not addicted. I usually just sign on, see if there is anything new, then sign out. If there is stuff to respond to, I will and other times I will stay and look around for someone to stalk.

There are more people on there who stalk than who are stalked, Joe. I'm pretty sure of that one, so take a number. [Wink]

Since the flirting with girls thing wore off, now it's just a huge waste of time. No new comments, no new messages, ... no point in logging on anymore. But I still do. That's not a testament to the site's appeal, that's an acknowledgment of how little a life I have.

I looked at Joe's page and also at Brad's which I have a suspicion was also built by Joe (or at least, highly influenced by Joe). The pages are readable and don't contain any music...you guys are going to get kicked off of myspace. Bloat your pages now, or risk being outcasts forever!

Myspace is kinda like having sex with your dog. You hate yourself for doing it, but it's right there and yeah, sometimes it bites your sac but it is still easier than going out in the real world to get laid.

Of course I am joking, a little.

On a more serious note, Why did they take off the name search function? I thought that was the whole point of the website, to find your friends? How are you supposed to find them in you can't search for them?

Posted by Donna Siegwart (Member # 3232) on 08-03-2006, 03:34 PM:

I had an issue with that whole searching name thingy, and i went to regular search, put in the name and it did its thing and then on the second page it gave me the name search area! I dunno if that is something that is supposed to happen, but I was trying to look up an old school buddy. I hope they fix it, its been a bit annoying going onto myspace lately (thats why i keep myspace IM on, it notifies me of alerts (comments and such) so i dont have to waste my time logging on and off a lot.

I'll tell you soemthing about Myspace:

Thier servers SUCK! They are not equipped to handle their traffic flow. What the hell is the point of my cable modem when their servers are so damn slow?

Also - who the hell are these people who (A) Want to be my friend (B) E-mail with loads of crap? (present company on Film-Tech excluded from the first comment)

Wow - my new experience with this Mysapce thing - is quite a bummer. Other than the musical aspect of it - I am really not impressed. I guess it's orginal purpose was to get new bands noticed - I guess it worked for that.

Posted by Donna Siegwart (Member # 3232) on 08-03-2006, 05:50 PM:

I remember when Myspace FIRST started, none of my friends had it and it had ZERO bands on it. It was a cool thing that basically my coworkers and I spoke on, and we made a theatre group to chat abou mergers, etc. Now it just seems to be going to hell with all of their video stuff, and too many bands. I personally am there to still chat with people I have stuff in common with and my old school friends. Its good for that because everyone I know has one. I hope it gets better, instead of worse as it has been doing these past few weeks. *sigh*

I agree ... HOWEVER, aren't they something like the NUMBER ONE most visited site EVER? And didn't that happen rather quickly in the last several months? A year ago, there were no problems at all, except for the minor inconvenience of regular maintenance from 2:00am - 6:00am every Sunday when they were down and had Pac-Man on the home page for you to play. Now they're accomodating the population of the entire Internet community, and then some. (I, myself, have three profiles/accounts.) I'm willing to allow a little time for them to "catch up" before I start telling them how to run their website. [Razz]

I wondered if it had something to do with them selling out and becoming more "corporate" (nothing wrong with that). I was on there maybe a month before they announced the buyout, and for me it worked fine and now it's usually ok but sometimes bad.

Posted by Chris Hipp (Member # 1788) on 08-03-2006, 07:14 PM:

myspace does get the most number of hits, but not as many different people as say, google or yahoo. One person may go on there 30 times in one day.

OK OK, I broke down and did this stupid thing:

http://www.myspace.com/8traxrule

Not much on it, but I put up a couple 1970s Zenith TV commercials and other junk that I uploaded on Google Video (I had about 80 clips on YouTube, but my account there got yanked because some bastard at CBS complained about 2 of them). I put a song (if you can call it that) by Negativland up just because I was surprised they actually had it available, but you have to hit Play to hear it. I've got 2 webcam girls on my Friends list because they asked to be my friends, I'll check out their webcams if I ever have time and don't have to pay for them, and delete them if I don't like 'em.

Well, due to uncontrollable circumstances I had to delete my personal myspace account. It is a very long story and I'd prefer not to get into it.

However, I did set up an account for the theatre. I am waiting on approval from the owner. If he Ok's it the site will be here:

As of October 13, 2006 20:40, I no longer have a MySpace. I know that some of you had friended me on there. It was nothing against any friends on there. I jsut determined that the account was more of a liability than an asset.

I'm on LiveJournal (a superior system) with userid chriscrap21718 Remove the crap, since I don't want my screen name and real name on the same public WWW page.

Myspace was one of the top five most popular sites in 2005, but one should take into account the fact that people who use it (like me) end up checking it obsessively, so I doubt it's getting a lot of unique visitors. I don't know if they counted it by unique visitors, or number of total hits.

Ironically, in 2006 it was voted the number 1 worst website, because most of the pages on the site (you're allowed to edit your own html and .css to make your profile look better/worse) don't conforom to the W3 standard. Not to mention that it's glitchy, crashy, slow, and has more users than bandwidth available during peak usage times.

I was on it slightly before they went corporate, and noticed that it always worked better then. Now it's improved but for a while it was pretty bad.

Anyone know how to upload an mp3 to your music player to change your song, or is the only way to change the song is to add it from someone else's page?

Posted by Chris Hipp (Member # 1788) on 10-15-2006, 12:27 AM:

You can link to an mp3 you have uploaded off site and have it autoplay, just like a video. Don't know how to do it but I have seen other people do it.

Is anyone else getting a bunch of totally bullshit friend requests?

I log into my profile for the first time since I don't know when and I have all these supposedly female friend requests. They all talk about loving to play volleyball and drinking Corona. If I click on their picture it asks for me to install the "Myspace Adult Profile Content Viewer." Fuck all that. I will install NOTHING. Absolutely none of it. Never. Come to my house and I'll initiate a gunfight over it. Geez!!!!
[Mad]

And so many uber-sized corporations are wanting to buy MySpace? Too much more of this bullshit and I'll opt out of my profile. I have a decent number of friends in my friends list, but they are real friends. The porn companies can get their heads caved in by a ball pean hammer for all I care. Screw 'em.

Well, our Grand-Poopie-BAH decided to set up a page for me against my will... you know, sorta like the "affection" bestowed upon me by my priest when I was an altar boy.

Anyway, I guess I need to modify the pertinent information to make it reasonably correct.

SO, Bottom Line: I joined the ranks of all yous that have lowered yourselves to Brad's low-life level...and I don't even live in Rockwall!

OBTW: I have NO idea of how to log onto my MySpace "profile" to modify and correct Brad's perverted postings about my wholesome self! HA!

By the way, does anyone know how to make it so that other people's stupid music does NOT play when I visit their pages? I remember a setting and it worked for awhile, but now everyone's stupid music plays. [Mad]

AS!!!! I already told you and others many times, I had NO desire to make a page there! But, as I read what you created for me, I though it pretty funny.

I already logged on and changed the password YOU forced on ME! JERK!

While I was against you at 1st, I read it and generally liked it. (God Dammit! I HATE to admit when I wrong!)

Anyway, I will modify it to reflect MY true opinions and persona!

Jason,

a few years back, we had a Gathering of the Juggalos here in Peoria IL. Everyone FREAKED out that it was coming. People tried to ban it, etc. After the 3 day fest, all that was left was some graffiti and trash lying around, and a nice big fat wad of cash in all the local retailers pockets from the attendee's buying so much. We have a town called Morton 10 miles away. I heard Morton has to do with some ICP thing (?). Lets just say that their population probably doubled during that weekend. I work at a local record store in town. We should get a Platnium record for as many ICP Cd's we've sold in the past 9 years!

I got bored one night and made a page for my Turtle Perry yes, I have no life

Posted by Jason Winn (Member # 3568) on 12-31-2006, 05:23 PM:

Allison,

Yeah, the 2002 Gathering of the Juggalos was in Peoria. I didn't go to that one. I went in 2003 and 2006. People always freak out when the Gathering comes to their town. The 2006 Gathering was originally supposed to be in ICP's homestate of Michigan, but the residents of the town got together and started protesting, until the event got cancelled. They moved the Gathering to a small town outside of Columbus, OH at the last minute. It was still fresh though. At least there wasn't a big riot with tear gas like at the one in Peoria. No matter where ICP goes, there will always be protestors. They just don't understand the juggalo lifestyle.

As for the Morton thing, ICP has a game called Morton's List. So, I guess that's where that came from.
