This guy is being an ass. He made something available to the world, complained when someone provided directions (a link) to the content that he made available to the public, and then provided directions (a redirect) to someone else's content (i.e. did exactly the same thing to someone else that he is complaining was done to him).

While I would be the first to admit that what Fuddruckers' web monkey did was a) "not very nice" (because it may have imposed and unforseen load on someone else's web server) and b) "not very smart" (because the linked-to content can change at any time), I don't see how they did anything "wrong." Links are part of the web and technical means are available to restrict which hosts can link to yours. If there are no mechanisms used to restrict the availability of content, however, then permission is implied that anyone may visit or link to it.

Still, the story is funny as hell. [thumbsup]

I like Fudd's. Of course I am from Montana where we eat meat. Give me a hamburger that tastes like a hamburger any day (as opposed to one of those nine-dollar seasoning-covered gourmet slop-jobs served up by restaurants) and I'm happy.

Fatburgers is better though, I will admit.

!! The best burgers I've had over the years were at Lotta Burger and The Red Onion, both near Okland. Donno if either of them is still around.... We still have a couple of In-And-Outs here in SLC, just fair though and kinda greasy.

Even though the self-service condiments toppings and condiments are a plus and the patties are larger at "Foodwreckers", I don't think they are necessarily better overall than In-n-Out (and Fuddrucker's extra-cost grilled onions border on the awful). The only sit-down burger joint I can think of that can hold a candle to I-N-O is Nation's, a Northern California chain whose San Ramon outlet I visited while in the Bay Area last month.

And -- correct me if I'm wrong -- you can photograph your friends inside a Nation's store, unlike at Fuddrucker's with their strict, posted no-cameras policy.

The In-and-Out burger joints is SLC are only fair because they have nothing do do with the famous (and very good)In-N-Out burger chain based out of California. In-N-Out buger has locations in California, Nevada, and Arizona. If the suspect joint has a microwave, or a freezer it is not a true In-N-Out

In-N-Out (the good chain) has been tinkering with the idea of expanding into southern Utah. They wouldn't be able to expand further north or east than that. Because their meat is never frozen, they have a limited range of distribution between their meat suplier and the restraunts.

My personal favorite beverage at Fudd's is the chocolate milkshake. Made with actual hand packed ice cream, not that poured-out-of-a-spigot glop they serve at McDonalds or Dairy Queen.

Look at the "Internet Bumper Stickers" site ... they have to beg people to copy the stickers they like and host them themselves, rather than linking directly to them, because it uses so much bandwidth if everybody who wants to use one just puts a picture-link to the original site.

Ebay sellers are always complaining "this other seller just linked directly to my picture instead of taking one of his own," and the best advise given is that they change the location of the original photo and, in the place of the linked (stolen) photo they puty a graphic that says "this seller stole my photo ... what will he do with your money?"

John, the first two. I usually only get cheese, ketchup, mustard, and sometimes pickle on my burgers, most likely because I HATE tomatos and am not fond of lettuce, I I don't give tw shits if those things are fresh or not. The more they gussie up food, the less I tend to like it. A good bun can help.

I went to fuddruckers.. once. The burger was dry and the bun was stale. I went back up to complain and got a replacement. Once again, the same crap. Their food is horrible.

Now you want a good ol' fashioned burger... we have a place here in utah called Ab's. Great old time made by some greasy fat guys hand for that nice just blew my nose now its in your burger taste.

The best burgers I've had are at Champps. Although, the Billy Goat Tavern (portrayed in the infamous SNL skit with John Belushi) has some pretty good ones as well.

Haven't been in a Fuddrucker's in a long time. Don't remember the food so it must've been mediocre. There are none in Nevada.

Any place depends on its chef. I've had lousy steaks at one of the Ruth's Chris locations here, even though they have a good reputation for steak.

Best local burger here: The 4 Kegs Bar & Grill. It's within crawling distance of two CCSN campuses and my room.

If that's the same Champps (Americana) chain that is in Milwaukee and Houston and Irvine, CA...they SUCK the big one! Having been to those 3 locations, I can honestly say, what crap food! They are even worse than Hooters and Stewart Anderson.

Those and Applebees are for pussies that don't have a clue as to what a good burger is! If ya want a great sit-down burger, go to Out Back or your local greasy spoon.

I agree Joe, it's all about the meat, followed by the quality of the buns. [Wink]

As far as drive-in theaters are concerned would Applebees be a fair food quality level to aim for?

Anything above that level would be hard to do in volume, but on the other hand I think it is going to be the food, service, and atmosphere quality that is going to keep the doors open.

I would say that is above and beyond what a drive-in needs to meet. At least the local Applebees here is pretty damned good. Much better than places like TGIF, Chili's and such.

It may be above and beyond, but it doesn’t cost that much more to do it right (equipment), and the food cost is about the same.

Some other drive in questions I have:

Do any of them make the pizza fresh or is it pretty common just to throw a frozen pizza in the oven?

Soft serve ice cream... is it worth the extra effort?

Do chicken strip baskets sell (thinking Dairy Queen style)

If you already have the ovens and mixer for pizza would you also make the buns on site to lower food costs?

Freshly made potato chips... Do they sell?

Pricing:

I'm going to have a Burger King right across the road from me, so what pricing strategy do I need to take to keep the food business on my side?

There is a hamburger place in Coeur d'Alene Idaho called "Hudson's Hamburgers," claiming to be the best hamburgers in the world. They have been in business selling nothing but hamburgers (and soft drinks) since 1907. So of course I had to go there during the Great States convention.

The burgers were, as advertised, excellent. Nothing fancy, no stupid sauces or anything. Just meat on a super fresh bun. Pattied and cooked before your eyes -- nothing frozen. And the price was great -- $1.95.

Anyone who thinks Applebee's steaks are good has obviously never been to Montana. My sympathies, guys. Get yourself to Billings and hit the Windmill Club, or the Granary, or Gusick's, or for the ultimate treat go to Ingomar and eat at the Jersey Lilly.

do you ever wonder if there is a group of individuals that post their opinions about theatres on some Restaurant related forum, as we are posting ours about restaurants?

Maybe they are wondering where the best presentation of any given movie is, while we are wondering where the best burger is?

Just thought I would throw that out there...

MY favorite (other than White Castle) is McDonalds! You can slam those things down (the regular lil tiny hamburger) 4 at a time, and, extra dried onion flecks please!

I agree Daryl. That was some lousy food. I even ordered my steak MR and (as Joe suggested) told them to make it delicious...they didn't! YUK!

You'd think that the state known for cattle/beef would be able to turn out a good steak... Come to think of it, most restaurant food in DFW SUCK! Too dry, too greasy, or just plain BLAH! Even the "TexMex" food is crappy.
