I've been watching the DVD's lately...

One of my favorites is the "Ugly Baby" episode.

The "Soup Nazi" followed by the one where Kramer does the movie times phone gig and then the "Ugly Baby" episode. Its also hard to beat the one when Newmann and Kraemer use a mail truck to take empty pop cans to Detroit. Every episode definately has its merits and every episode is absolutely about nothing!!

The "master of your domain" episode is my favorite. But there's a lot of others I think are just about as great as well, including "soup nazi."

The series covered so many different, arguably gross, subjects few other series would touch. Hmm, let see. I remember episodes on male member shrinkage, circumcision, horse flatulence, men who sound like women, man tits, ugly babies (already mentioned), virginity and JFK Jr., caffiene addiction, Jon Voight and homosexuality (not that there's anything wrong with it).

The one where Jerry buys Elaine a cigar store Indian as a peace offering, while he's coincidentally trying to score with Elaine's Native American girlfriend, only he doesn't know that. And no matter what he does he keeps insulting her with Indian stereotypes. "We smoke-um peacepipe". "We bury hatchet". heh heh. The final scene where Kramer drives by in a taxi with the cigar store Indian and he sticks his head out the window and does an Indian war whoop is classic. [Big Grin]

I can't remember the title but this one cracks me up:

Elaine and Jerry are at a party with a bunch of obnoxious folks; in particular a woman who keeps referring to her fiancee as her baby. When she keeps asking where her baby is, Elaine fires back "Maybe the dingo ate your baby."

Lets not forget the episode where Jerry's coat is being worn by the cleaners wife. And the one where Cosmo adopts a section of the the highway. The there is the one with "Jimmy"."Jimmy likes Elaine.

However my favorite is where Cosmo is invited to sit on the dais with Mel Torme...

The whole series is Classic. [Big Grin]

I cant think of a favorite episode, but a line that always cracked me up, is when Jerry was dating the girl with the southern accent, and she breaks up with him in the car, and the reason was because she didnt like his comedy, and he says "But you're a cashier". Just the way he said it makes me laugh for some reason.

While most of the episodes I like have already been mentioned, a couple stick in my mind as among the funniest is the one where the Kramer and Jerry are fighting over a Jr. Mint. It falls into a guy on the operating table and gets sewn up inside him.

Another one is the one about Jerry's long-overdue library book. Philip Baker Hall's deadpan performance as Lt. Bookman of the library police is hilarious.

I also really like the episodes when George works for the Yankees. Larry David's voice as George Steinbrenner cracks me up everytime. I also like David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" series.

I like most of the shows and can watch them over and over. It would be easier for me to list the episodes I don't like. For example, the show's last episodes. I would have expected something much better than the lame thing with the jail.

I hear it's one of his favorite hang outs.

These are just a few of the many great episodes, TBS I think last Sunday, week ago yesterday ran a 6 hour marathon. If its on, I'll watch it, no matter if I've seen the episode 40 times, I will still watch it. [thumbsup]

The episode with George as a hand model (and Jerry wearing the puffy shirt) is a classic. "But I don't want to be a Pirate!!!"

Just a block from our shop is the Ferarri/Masaratti dealer, the Jaguar dealer, the Audi dealer, and low and behold the Mercedes dealer..... 2 blocks down will get you the Volvo dealer!! The Humvee dealer.... well he's about a half mile west. Want a Buick or Chevy... they're about 10 miles south of the shop [Smile]

My all time favorite show, I am well know for getting Seinfeld lines into conversations. A few favorites:

Newman is testifying in court: "I had gone up to Westchester. I go there every Tuesday--I do charity work for the blind in my spare time, for the Lighthouse. I was in the middle of a game of Parcheesee with an old blind man when I excused myself to call my friend, as he was very depressed lately, because he never became a banker."

Frank: Maybe it was because I refused to take off my shoes. Again, the foot odour problem. Her father would look at me and say, " eno enoa juang ". Which means, "this guy - this is not my kind of guy".

(When Elain takes him to the salon as a spy):okay, THAT'S IT! "oki on awa" Where's my tail? I heard every word you said. You got some nerve

George's Boss at the Yankees: I have had to lay off many good people in my time, Yogi Berra, Lou Pinella, Bucky Dent, Billy Martin, Dallas Green, Dick Houser, Bill Virdon, Billy Martin, Scott Marrow, Billy Martin, Bob Lemmon, Billy Martin, Gene Michael, Buck Showalter...

The one where they think George is a communist is very funny! Where Kramer heats his cloths in the pizza oven! Where Kramer takes over that cinema, the Alex and it has George running down the street yelling at his old neighbour- Its from the insitute!

The ending of "The Parking Garage," where they finally find the car and then...it won't start.

(According to the "inside look" on the DVD, the non-starting car was unplanned.)

I had never seen this show but my wife was a fan, and so we've started collecting the DVDs and we're watching them in order. We're halfway through Season 3 now. Great show!

I've been around, but am hesitant to post because I'm ashamed to say I don't have a good decent photo to replace Xena. And I work in a friggin' PHOTO LAB! I guess it's like those mechanics who don't have any decent cars.

I like Seinfeld too, but the George character really gets on my nerves massively. I like That 70's Show best of the comedy shows on TV.

I could never really get into Seinfeld. I did see the Soup Nazi episode and laughed my ass off. Also I caught the one where the whole episode takes place in a parking garage and thought that was funny.

Thanks Tim! Next weekend will be our first anniversary already! This time last year, I was busy making chocolate Oscar statues as favors for the guests. It was so hectic, I got out of some routine habits, like this place. [Roll Eyes]

Hopefully, you'll be in the area again before too long. I look forward to it. The screening room isn't as impressive as Brad's, but it works for us. The rest of the place is practically a museum of antique televisions and radios.

Back on topic--ever notice that in various episodes, Jerry, George and Elaine all slam the receiver against a pay phone like Poe Pesci in JFK?

Most of you already know that I am Jewish, and as a Jew I cannot stand Seinfeld...

Seinfeld's Jewish "characters" are fodder for anti-Semitism...the characters being self-centered back-stabbers and follow many anti-Semetic stereotypes!

Am I being oversensitive? No! Basically, I come from a middle class blue-collar family, and my folks busted their asses for what they had. But growing up, many children of very wealthy families were my peers. And they were as obnixious as Seinfeld...I could not stand being around them....

Jerry is Jewish, but I always thought George is supposed to be Italian American, and Kramer is not Jewish either. So I don't really see how that makes them anti-semite stereotypes.
Seinfeld himself comes across as a nice, funny guy, so I don't see how he is a "back-stabbing stereotype" either.
Sorry to hear about your hard childhood, Will. Have you considered therapy?

Not to put words in his mouth, but I think that Will maybe be talking about Jerry's family as well as Jerry. Both Jerry's parents and Uncle Leo do play out as Jewish stereotypes (cheap, ect.). If Jerry himself does, I never realized it.

I never took offense because the show is an equal opportunity employer: everyone on it is an idiot!

A lot of people are cheap. That is not specifically a Jewish stereotype. Seinfeld's parents come across as somewhat quirky, but very likeable old folks. And what motivation should Seinfeld have to provide "fodder for anti-semitism"? Is he a PLO spy masquerading as Jewish comedian to bring stereotypes to the people? Is he part of a big conspiracy?

Well Will, I never knew (or cared) that you were Jewish. BFD. Who cares? Neither did it ever occur to me that the actors and/or the characters on Seinfeld were Jewish. To me, they were just actors playing stereotypical "characters" that I'm sure we have all come across at some point or another in our life. That includes All the parents, Newman, Uncle Leo, Jackie Chiles (the lawyer), Babu (the Indian), the Soup Nazi, and on and on...

The only one that perhaps could be considered stereotypical is George (BTW: Jason Alexander IS Jewish). "Not that there's anything wrong with that". He constantly wants something for nothing, is the king of brown-nosing, always has some "angle", lets the other person pay for his way and/or it all, or at least wants "credit" for when HE spends HIS money...and then he wants the change back. The "Big Salad" episode comes to mind.

The point is, that show makes fun of EVERYONE for who we all are! Get over it!

Personally I am very pro-semite. You either are for them (pro) or against them (anti). There is no middle ground. Back when I was a kid I had a semite as a pet, but I didn't take very good care of it and it died. I have felt guilty since. Maybe I am trying to make up for my guilt in being extremely pro-semite, I dunno.

Anyway, what the hell is a semite? Sounds like something a dog collects in its fur or something that chews your house down. Also, Judaism is a religion, nothing more. For example if Jason Alexander has no religious beliefs he can't be considered a Jew, but he CAN be considered an Israelite or whatever it is. Right? Also, how can somebody be "Jew-ish"? Man I want to ask more questions but I don't want to BAN myself.

Semites are people speaking a Semitic language. This language group includes Hebrew, Arab, Ethiopian, and a number of modern and historic languages from the Near East. According to biblical tradition, these people are the descendants of Shem, one of Noah's sons. Correspondingly, the terms Japhetic and Hamitic were used for languages related to the Semitic group, but these terms are not used anymore.
So, using the term "anti-semite" for Arabs who are anti-Jewish is wrong since Arabs are Semites themselves in the sense of speaking a semitic language. Apart from that, the language classification can not really be used to classify religious or ethnic groups, but this has been done for a long time when it was politically opportune.

Though Jason Alexander is indeed Jewish, his character is of Italian descent. In one episode, Frank, his father is excited that he might have found a long lost cousin in Tuscany, left there after his family emigrated to America. So George's "frugal" behavior has no other significance than the fact that he is cheap.

In the episode in which Kramer hosts a Jewish singles dinner, it is mentioned that neither he nor Elaine Benes is Jewish. Uncle Leo is annoying, but I didn't see any negative stereotypical behavior. In fact, he reminds me of some of my relatives, and I'm a shiksa!

Now if you are self-identified as a Hipster Doofus, then maybe you should be insulted. [Wink]

Oh, and the episode when Kramer has the Japanese men sleep in his dresser drawers because he runs them out of Yen.

Tivo has saved a lot of money on DVD's!

Two episodes that nobody's mentioned that I really liked:

1 - The tractor story episode. Favorite part when Kramer and his friend come in arguing about their parts playing sick people for medical school and Kramer says (in front of Jerry and the "tractor girl") "I gave you gonorrhea because I thought you'd enjoy it!" and then the girl responds "I got it from a tractor."

2 - The "mail fraud" episode when Kramer breaks Jerry's stereo on purpose and then mails it to collect insurance money. This episode also included George flirting with the photo lab girl with "erotic" pictures of himself.

The November 23 edition of the Regis and Kelly show will feature the entire cast of The "Seinfeld"Show.

The morning show is devoting the entire hour to "Seinfeld" for the first time "Live" has ever spent the entire show focusing on another program.
