I thought it might be interesting to actually be able to visualize where all the FT members live. If you goto http://www.frappr.com/filmtech you can add yourself to a map. It's done by ZIP CODE ONLY, not by your actual address. People outside the US can also use the map.

Anybody tried to zoom in on the map to see the accuracy of their physical addy. For some unknown reason my arrow showed up about a mile SW of the street where I live, a couple miles west of where the zip code is indicated. And I don't know why.....

I checked. I'm thankful it isn't fully accurate. Mine shows up a mile or so from my house. But it is at the corner of a large park where I jog and ride my bike. The opposite corner has a couple decent night spots.

non-face? Maybe "partial-face" or something, but I would say more than ½ of my face was visible. [Smile]

Frappr has a hell of a world atlas at use. I zoomed in on Europe to find street level detail there. Then I shifted over to Japan and was able to zoom down to where I lived when I was 10 years old (the Japanese maps even showed building footprints not just streets).

I believe it says that it is powered by "Google" so it should be the same detail as Google World View.

Hey, have you guys tried downloading Google Earth? Its a nice graphic enhanced version with even better detail on the zoom-in. I found several of the homes I've lived in. Zooming in on New York is a real trip, you can see individual people!

It's because Frappr puts your locator icon on the geographic center of the zip code you entered. If you want the icon to be more accurate for some reason, go back to the Film-Tech Frappr page. After you've added yourself, look in the "Step 1" box, and click on where it says "Modify" next to your location. On the right side is a mini-map where you can move the marker to better represent your location. It may be helpful to click the "Hybrid" button on the mini-map if you wish to be more precise in placing your marker, as the streets aren't always exactly right.

Google Earth is pretty cool. The only major downside to it is the program demands a decent amount of computing horsepower.

It runs great on my new Dell desktop computer at work (Pentium D dual core 3.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, GeForce6800 video card), runs pretty decently on my notebook computer (Pentium M 1.86GHz, 2GB of RAM, ATI X300 video card) and cannot run for shit on my old home desktop machine (Pentium III 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, 64MB GeForce2 GTS video card).

Google Earth is somewhat odd for the varying levels of detail available for certain areas of the country. My city (Lawton) is just low rez crappy blurry. But just north of town, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has really high res detail. Mount Scott even pokes out in 3D.

It's also wierd how the satellite views are stitched together. I was looking at the area of Staten Island where I used to live. The perspective of my old house was from a different angle than the Verrazano Narrows Bridge right nearby.

I was checking out some stuff on Google Earth -and happened to take a look at Seattle.

Someone in that city must have pulled some strings to get high rez views of Seattle photographed at just the right time. You can zoom into Seahawks Stadium. An NFL game is in progress. The stadium is packed. And it looks like the Seahawks are about to score.

Kind of interesting that they would stick some really huge lettering on the tops of both Seahawks Stadium and Safeco Field nearby. Easy to read via satellite.

A couple of months ago I went to Frappr, registered, and put in my name, location and and pix. Went back today to take Robert's suggestion as to how to make the arrow to my location more accurate and found my name now spelled wrong, no pix (Brad's and a bunch of others also look absent) and I can't log on as there is no record of my account. WTF is going on here?
