Does anyone know if there is a web site or a telnet server somewhere or something that can be used to check to see if a particular trademark already exists or has been filed? Every site that I've come across is asking for two to three hundred dollars to do a search.

try the us patent and trademark office at http://www.uspto.gov/. On the left side, there is a link to search TESS, the trademark electronic search system. Have fun.
