To all in Vegas for ShoWest 2006. The annual FT drink will be located in a suite at Bally's on Wednesday night from 7pm to midnight. Please check the usual booths on Wednesday afternoon for info on the suite number (QSC, Jack Roe, Kinoton, Neumade).

On Tuesday night, feel free to swing by Quarks restaurant in the Star Trek Experience (Hilton hotel) at 8pm for dinner. Just tell the greeter you are here for Film-Tech and they will show you to our area.

The cab would be around $10. It'll take forever to walk (unless you are a power-walker like Gordon) [Wink]

The Vegas.com website is supposed to be running a coupon deal for free monorail tickets but I haven't been able to find anything on the site about that.

Locals can ride for a dollar each way if they buy 20 tickets. How 'bout I do a little scalping if enough people would like to partake of a $2 roundtrip ride from Bally's to Quark's.

The monorail station a Bally's is at the rear of the building right by the pool. It's not that bad a walk - just seems like it if you've been on your feet all day on the trade floor. Fortunately the Hilton station is right in front of the Star Trek part of the casino. If you're lucky you'll catch the Borg Train on the way in.

BTW we're expecting anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of snow tonight. Probably be all gone by the time you guys get here. Probably. [Big Grin]

yea, I'm watching this crazy weather pattern since I'm driving down next Monday from Boise. (really sucks...)

Probably do the I-15 route then, if the weather isn't behaving going home, then might do the "loniest highway in the west US-93" route back home.

Just so you don't end up in Ocean City Maryland looking for the "real" Loneliest Road In America which is Hwy 50 here is a LINK to its web site with a map.

Highway 93 comes up #2 in my book as the 2nd Loneliest Road In America... but my book is not official. Both are alot of fun to drive and there IS alot to see and do. I prefer the Nevada route myself.

I-15 sucks big time... too many Semi's and jockying with them to be in the lead [Big Grin]

It's 2.5 miles if you want to hoof it - figure about a 45-minute leasurely walk, most of it under the monorail tracks. The area along Paradise Road is not the greatest or safest at night though.

[Edit] Paul, Dan, Adam, Bob, and The Olpinator make 10.

If it looks like we'll use more than 10 I'll get 'em on Tuesday (have to buy them in lots of 20 to get the $1 price). I do ride the thing myself once in a while, usually to cut down on the travel time when going to Fry's. Guess we'll need to figure out a time & place to meet up prior to a Bally's/Paris departure.

When planning your transportation, keep in mind that the map is deceiving. Bally's to MGM is almost a mile.

Las Vegas Monorail (MGM Grand to Sahara)
This new monorail runs from the MGM Grand to the Sahara hotel. The new route includes stops at: MGM Grand, Bally's / Paris, Flamingo, Harrah's / Imperial Palace, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton and the Sahara. The monorail is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Rates for the monorail are $5 for one ride, $9 for two rides (shareable), $35 for 10 rides (shareable) and $15 for an unlimited one-day pass.

Bob, I've got you on the list. On Adam's map you're about 250 yards south of the Las Vegas Convention Center station, across the street from the Wynn golf course. From that station the Hilton is the next stop going north, and Bally's is the third stop going south.

For Phil's upcoming payoff to Boss Maar, may I suggest Schoop's? Inside the gas station at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd So and Richmar (south of both outlet malls across from Paradise Spa) the motto is, "Eat at Schoop's and get gas." From Indiana since 1948. Wow, that's before even Phil was born!

For post F-T Drink hangover recovery (hint: lots o' grease) go for the local one-off ma & pa places. My favorite morning sun in your eyes pub crawls: Four Kegs, Kilroy's, Peppermill (short Deuce ride or crawl from Bally's), Tiffany's (inside White Cross Drugs at Oakey and The Strip), the diner inside Huntridge Drugs, the diner inside Decatur Drugs, or even the Hangover Hamburger at any PT's Pub. And for a long crawl there's The Coffee Cup in Boulder City. I sober-up there just before my first class. Or flight. Whatever.

Most people here vote In-N-Out as the best 'Vegas burger but that's why I say there should be rules about who is allowed to vote. The masses are asses.

Well, it turns out that the only way I could buy 20 monorail rides for a dollar each was on a single pass, not individual tickets. So, no deals to be had unless someone can find that on-line free ticket promotion at Vegas.com (I haven't been able to). My apologies to everyone about this.

It seems like the ideal thing would be just to walk... I like to walk the strip, and 1 mile isn't all that far unless you're really pressed for time. Besides, you'll get exercise and a chance to burn off the calories you'll be putting on at the drink.

I still hold the record for the person with the longest time in the business who has NEVER been to Showest, and who could never be sent there by any of my employers!

The closest I ever came was when I worked for F-T's Louis Bornwasser. Every year, Louis would treat a different employee and their spouse to the Showest trip... UNTIL it became my turn. That was the year he decided to STOP GOING! He eventually started going to Showest again... AFTER I'd already left for another gig! Always my luck.

Long ago, I resigned myself to the fact that I will probably never see a tradeshow (and hang wid my FT buds).

So, c'mon, guys. Hows about an EAST COAST DRINK!

Paul, that WOULD be a good way to go! Unfortunately, I run a dedicated account. While my route DOES run up to Boston, even if BL&S called my company and specifically requested me, the load planners would send whoever happened to be in the area on OTR freight. [Frown]

Louis, so you're off again on Showest? I heard you were at UDITOA this year. I'd like to get back down there for that again, it was lots of fun the time I went. I was at their second convention (as their first ever guest speaker [thumbsup]

The drink will be at Bally's in a suite again as usual. The actual suite number, as usual, will not be available until early afternoon. The Jack Roe booth will be the first ones to know once it is finalized, so be sure and check by there Wed afternoon or check the forums (or front page) here.
