Sorry I´m a day late - comedian Jerry Lewis turned 80 yesterday.
One of my all-time favorites, I can´t beleive he´s 80 years old!!??
Some of his films has recently been released on DVD in Sweden.
Bought them all.

I´m not sure, but I´ve heard he is still performing now and then
at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Can anyone verify this?

My hat off for a great comedian!

Yes, he still appears at the Orleans here - next dates will be July 13 thru 16. Plus this year, the national broadcast of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Telethon returns to Las Vegas after a ten-year detour to SoCal. The national will originate from the new South Coast Hotel & Casino.

From 1973 to 1983 I worked on the annual Las Vegas-based national telethon in one capacity or another when it originated from the Sahara or Caesars Palace. Crowd control, followspot operator, second video, camera utility, second audio... Was a lot of work crammed into three weeks each year, but was also a lot of fun. Maybe I'll get to work it again.

Paul,

If you ran spot for Jerry then you probably know that projectionist/stagehand guy in Vegas that had the big film collection. He passed on about a year or two ago... seemed to me like he had a Russian last name er something like that. He also rented A-V stuff out of his house. He had alot of Jerry Lewis films in that collection and supposedly they were given to him by Jerry. He was an interesting guy.... just can't remember his name.

I haven't seen a recent picture of Jerry. I last saw him a couple of years ago and he had gained considerable weight. I assumed it was from medication. Does anyone know how he's doing physically?

I had the pleasure of working as an electrician on his "Cinderfella" in 1960 when rumors were flying that he was near death. He WAS exausted and he had to be lifted in a boatswain's chair to do the dance down the long staircase. He did it in just one take.

Jerry's been on steroids for years to deal with an old back injury, resulting in weight gain. He's come back down weight-wise and looks better now than he did a few years ago.

Not bad for an 80-year-old.

Mark, I think you're thinking of Warner Tschaggeny. Yeah, great guy!

No, not dead but making a zillion dollars in royalty fees for the remake of his old movies with people like Eddie Murphy doing the acting chores. He made a deal with Paramount Pictures to have the rights to some of his movies revert to him after five + years of original release....before Cable, Home video and remakes where even an option
