This year's THSA Conclave is in Boston (June 27-July 2) with theater tours scheduled in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine.

This will be my first conclave! I get to sleep on Norwood's couch! I don't know which is more exciting. [Big Grin]

I plan on attending the Boston conclave. I went the last time it was in Boston, which was back in 83. There are some theatres being visited this time that weren't last time, and many that were have since been totally restored.

It's a great chance to see what the movie palaces of the 20s and 30s were like if you weren't around to enjoy them. If you're not familiar with THSA (Theatre Historical Society of America), keep in mind that the theatres visited are all historic theatres, not multiplexes. And for those of you that fondly remember those so called large single screen theatres of the 60s... that's not what is considered a historic theatre. Don't expect to visit those either.

What will be toured are the early opera houses of the late 19th century, vaudeville houses of the early 20th century, and movie theatres from their beginnings through the 30s. Yes, occasionally a more modern theatre from the 40s or 50s might be included, but don't count on many, if any.

It is a great time, and an opportunity to learn about the roots of our industry, and meet many people with similar interests. It can be very educational as well. It's an opportunity for the younger members of our industry to discover what real showmanship was all about.

I highly recommend it.

I will be there as well, and am looking forward to seeing the inside of many theatres which I only know from their exteriors.
