Mission Impossible star Cruise vows to eat placenta after birth
By Patrick Mulchrone
TOM Cruise yesterday revealed his latest bizarre mission..to eat his new baby's placenta.
Cruise vowed he would tuck in straight after girlfriend Katie Holmes gives birth, saying he thought it would be "very nutritious".
The Mission Impossible star, 43, said: "I'm gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious. I'm gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there." It is the latest in a series of increasingly strange outbursts from Cruise in the run-up to the birth.
He has claimed the baby, due any day, will be delivered in total silence.
The Top Gun star also insisted he "sensed" fianc?e Katie was pregnant before she told him.
And he has blurted out details of the couple's sex life, saying: "It's spectacular."
The actor, who recently also claimed he has the power to cure drug addicts, has even been carrying out his own medical scans on the foetus after buying himself an ultrasound machine.
Silent birth is one of the rules of the cult of Scientology, which Cruise is devoted to.
The cult - founded by the late sci-fi writer L Ron Hubbard - claims that 75 million years ago aliens came to earth and their spirits now infest our bodies.
Cruise told GQ magazine Hubbard had discovered making a noise had a "negative spiritual effect" on someone giving birth. He insisted that 27-year-old Katie would be allowed to scream, adding cryptically: "It is really about respecting the woman. It's not about her screaming.
"And scientifically it is proven. Now there are medical research papers that say when a woman's giving birth everyone should be quiet."
Cruise also revealed he and Katie have been preparing for the birth by holding classes at their Beverly Hills home.
He said: "We've been studying what a woman goes through. What happens to her body. It's just kind of becoming this fun game of learning."
Cruise said his sex life with Batman Begins star Katie had made him realise one-night stands were "horrible".
He added: "Great sex is a by-product for me of a great relationship, where you have communication. It's an extension of that. If you're not in good communication with your partner, it sucks."
Cruise, who has two adopted children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, will not be the first star to make a meal out of his baby's placenta.
Rod Stewart and girlfriend Penny Lancaster took home their baby's placenta, sprinkled it with tee tree oil and buried it in the garden.
In 1998, Channel 4 chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall fried a placenta with shallots and garlic and served it up to 20 guests, including the baby's mum and dad.
TV watchdogs later criticised the show, branding it "disagreeable".
But placenta-eating is considered normal in some cultures. Various recipes include one for placenta lasagne. Some say eating it helps avoid post-natal depression.

Do you mind; I'm just in the middle of my dinner!
I hasten to add that there's no placenta on the menu.
I have heard of people doing this, but I think I'd rather they kept it to themselves.
I do eat meat, though I hate handling it when it's raw. I can't bear to touch a living animal, being able to feel things moving inside just leaves me cold. I did once attend a post-mortem, so I have seen what's inside, but anything to do with bodies, and inside of alive or dead, I prefer to keep out of sight and out of mind.

For me that would be mission: impossible.
"Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to engage is a gross bit of cannibalism. If you succeed in your mission, the agency will disavow any knowledge of having any affiliation with you since you would be deemed one twisted bird."

According to my coworker, eating the placenta is really a tradition, in some society. He thinks it to be Germany, although it would obviously go waaaay back?
What a society we live in when these sort of headlines about a group of such important artists gets transmitted to us all!
Here's more important breaking news...

Cruise plays down 'placenta plan'
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has played down reports that he plans to eat the placenta of his new baby.
The War of the Worlds star was quoted in GQ magazine saying he thought the placenta and umbilical cord would be "very nutritious".
But in a subsequent interview with Diane Sawyer on US television, he made light of the comments.
"Yeah, we're going to do that - a whole family thing. Isn't that normal and natural? No, we're not eating it."
The 43-year-old star - currently promoting his new film Mission Impossible III - is expecting a child with his fiancee, actress Katie Holmes.
The couple, who have been engaged since June 2005, plan to marry in late summer or early autumn, according to Cruise.
The baby will be the first for Holmes, while Cruise has two adopted children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
He said earlier this month that their baby was due "any day now".
'Silent birth'
In his conversation with Sawyer on ABC's Primetime show, Cruise said that Catholic-born Holmes has already joined him as a follower of the Church of Scientology.
It followed comments made to GQ in which he defended the religion's doctrine that childbirth should be completed in silence
"It's really about respecting the woman," he told Sawyer. "It's not about her not screaming."
Cruise also claimed he knew Holmes, 27, was pregnant even before she told him.

In the old days before modern medecine women that were hemmoraging after child birth used to eat some of their own placenta because it is a coagulent and will help the bleeding to stop..... Animals also do the same.
As for Tom Cruse I wish someome would just shoot him so we don't have to hear about him any longer

Of course, there will be no soundtrack during the segment as it is customary to prepare and eat the feast in total silence... like the birth.

Everybody knows that a placenta must be seared on both sides and then served rare. Overcooking a placenta is a crime. Might as well forget the whole baby thing and eat at Sizzlers.
Hopefully people will realize someday that Tom Cruise is here on Earth for some reason - like eating placentas and stuff.

Joe, I think you're thinking of venison... Deer Meat.
A long time ago in a place far-far away, I used to be a cinematographer and producer for a WXYZ-TV show called "Michigan Sportsman" in Detroit.
Every year, our resident "reference hunter" would invite us all to his "Wild Game Dinner". There would be everything available to eat including squirrel, venison, owl, horse, quail, goose, duck, buffalo, elk, goat, etc... including "mountain oysters"... ummmmm testicles.
I never had the "balls" to try the mountain oysters/pearls, but I did eat the rabbit. It tasted like chicken!
Butt! One time when I was in Japan on an install, I got tricked into eating water buffalo balls. A client took me out to dinner in a classy place and ordered for me. Having no idea as to what was ordered, I was told they were "Japanese-style string potatoes". I did get suspicious when they all started laughing and speaking Japanese to each other. Later they told me! HA!

I used to collect placental eluates. That's a fancy way of saying I used to use a potato masher to squeeze most of the fluid out of the placenta. (The mother may develop antibodies to the growing fetus. The placenta protects the fetus from being harmed by the mother's antibodies.) I would then screen the harvested fluids for HLA antibodies. About one in 100 would have antibodies good enough to be used as reagents in HLA tissue typing.
Nowadays, most HLA typing is done using DNA reagents, but some serological typing is still used.

Placenta Recipes (Mothering Magazine, September 1983, Vol. 28, pg 76)
Each placenta weighs approximately 1/6 of the baby's weight. Cut the meat away from the membranes with a sharp knife. Discard the membranes.
Placenta Cocktail:
1/4 cup raw placenta
8oz V-8 juice
2 ice cubes
1/2 cup carrot.
Blend at high speed for 10 seconds
Placenta Lasagne:
Use your favorite Lasagne recipe and substitute this mixture for one layer of cheese. In 2 tbl. olive oil, quickly saute meat of 3/4 placenta, ground or minced; plus 2 sliced cloves of garlic, 1/2 tsp. oregano, 1/2 diced onion & 2 tbl. tomato paste, or 1 whole tomato.
Placenta Spaghetti:
Cut meat of 3/4 placenta into bite size pieces, then brown quickly in 1 tbl. butter plus 1 tbl. oil. Then add 1 large can tomato puree, 2 cans crushed pear tomatoes, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1 tbl. molasses, 1 bay leaf, 1 tbl. rosemary, 1 tsp. ea. of salt, honey, oregano, basil, and fennel. Simmer 1 1/2 hours.
Placenta Stew:
Meat of 3/4 placenta in bite size chunks, 1 potato (cubed), 1/4 cup fresh parsley, 2 carrots, 3 ribs celery, 1 zucchini, 1 large tomato, 1 small onion. Dredge meat in 1 tbl. flour mixed with 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. paprika, pinch of cloves, pinch of pepper, 6-8 crushed coriander seeds. Saute meat in 2 tbl. oil, then add vegetables (cut up) and 4-5 cups of water. Bring to full boil, then simmer for 1 hour.
Placenta Pizza:
Grind placenta. Saute in 2 tbl. olive oil with 4 garlic cloves, then add 1/4 tsp. fennel, 1/4 tsp. pepper, 1/4 tsp. paprika, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. oregano, 1/4 tsp. thyme, and 1/4 cup of wine. Allow to stand for 30 minutes, then use with your favorite home made pizza recipe. It's a fine placenta sausage topping.
Placenta Roast:
All "food" should be properly cleaned prior to cooking, and all "food" should be properly cooked prior to eating.
This is a good recipe for placenta, which should NOT go to waste:
INGREDIENTS:
1 to 3 lb. placenta no more than 3 days old
1 large onion
1 large green or red pepper (green will add color to the presentation)
1 cup tomato sauce
1 sleeve of saltine crackers
1 tsp crab or shrimp seasoning
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp white pepper
1 clove garlic (roasted and minced)
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Chop onion and green or red pepper in small cubes. Place in large bowl. Crush saltines into crumbs and add to onion and pepper cubes.
COMBINE IN LARGE BOWL:
Placenta, seafood seasoning, pepper, garlic, and tomato sauce. Place into aluminum loaf pan. Cover and bake for 1 and 1/2 hours, occasionally pouring off excess liquid. Retain liquid for gravy base if desired.

There was a local radio personality here in Cleveland who just moved to Chicago that ate a women's placenta on the radio. Every friday he would do a dare that was thought up by one of the listening audience. One week he even ate a live tarantula. He also did stupid things like:
Riding a minibike down a hallway with a cattle prod jousting with someone else.
Rolling through light bulbs.
Having a concrete block broken on his chest with a sledge hammer.
Riding with an acrobatic airplane pilot.
Jumping a river on a mini bike in winter.
Sliding down a slip and slide into broken glass on his bare butt.
Being whipped with a bull whip.
The guy has something wrong with him. He does some of the craziest things just to get noticed. Often he puts his own life at risk for a radio show.

Posted by Frank Angel (Member # 248) on 04-20-2006, 12:36 AM:
Oh yah, now he backpeddles and says it not about her not screaming, it's about RESPECTING her. She can scream all she wants....of course that will be a little hard to do while Tom Cat (as he loves to call himself) is holding that pillow firmly over her face.
Then there's also the "water birth," where the mother gives birth in warm water so the baby can swim out. And the best of all, there's the Scientology version which they call the "The Silent Water Birth," where the father holds the mother's head under water until the baby swims out and then he eats the placenta, the umbilicle cord and both its legs. And that's so nutritious because, hey, they do that in other cultures, right? Very nutritious. And there's no chance of depression -- neither post partum nor post mortum.
Eating the placenta....come on guys, what's so bizarre about that? Hey, for all we know, that wild and crazy Tom will be down there ready with a blender when her water breaks so he can make slurpies to wash down those placenta burgers and umbilical twisty-fries. UMMMMM.
When asked WHY he would eat the afterbirth, Tom paused, and with that doubled intensity as he is wont to display whenever he expounds on how much he "CARES" about "EVERYONE," he said the reason he wants to eat the umbilical and placenta is because "it
C O M P L E T E S me." Doesn't ever loving dad feel this way while chomping on the afterbirth -- especially when he's promoting his latest movie?
It's also smart to have someone video tape the whole process so when he makes the talkshow rounds he can have it played for the audience while he jumps up and down on the sofa proclaiming that he had spectacular sex with Holmes because he is NOT HOMOSEXUAL....just like it said in the full page ad he took out.
One question: Who allowed these two freakin morons to breed?
Feel very VERY sad for the baby!
KATE: (Med Shot/POV camera follows her as she pushes aside group of Scientologists crowed around the crib. She peers into the crib, then in terrified voice):
"....WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ITS EYES?!!!"
TOM: (Med/fast zoom to CloseUp - head turned slightly; demonic look on his face): "I ate them."

It all boils down to Cruise wanting desperately to be a comedian, but he has no sense of timing or delivery. I used to like this guy, but he's trying to do things that someone like a Robin Williams could get away with. When contrasted with his faux-seriousness in interviews, these attempts at knee-slapping humor just come off as if he's got serious mental problems.

Well thank you SOOOO much for that Jason....now I won't have to take my appetite suppressant.
Hey, this Cruise controversy has generated all this buzz now about canabalisim (aside from the buzz about Tom Cat's exploding brain aneurysm), did you know this eating dead human flesh is not something entirely new? In the Bris Mila ritual (Jewish circumcision) in the Hassidim tradition, the Mohil (Rebbe), when he performs the ceremony, after he cuts the foreskin, he actually puts his mouth on the baby's penis until it stops bleeding and then he EATS THE FORESKIN. You heard me.
Mind you, I was only at one Bris in my life, that of a good friend's baby and I have no idea what happened because as soon as the Rabbi brought out this very vicious looking stainless steel circular blade and started to cut the kid's penis, I saw a some blood, grabbed my crotch and fainted dead away. When I woke up, it was all over.
The only reason I know of this foreskin munching is because just recently there was a big ruckus in NY about a two babies who contracted hepititis, one died. And of course it was traced to the circumcision ritual; there was an outcry from all quarters. Most people didn't have any idea about that aspect of the ceremony because I believe it is only the Hassidim tradition that does it this way. The more liberal sects don't eat the foreskin, but Access Hollywood reported just yesterday that Tom Cruise is asking to have all discarded foreskins sent to him. Hey, boys and girls, it's not a big leap from afterbirth to foreskins. Yummy.

The folks in the video said it tastes a bit like liver. I hate liver. Any kind of it. The fact this kind of liver came out of a human woman's womb just compounds the grossness past the nth degree.
When labor is finished, most women do not want their spouse to look down there and see the afterbirth get delivered out of fear it might screw up their sex life. Now other folks want to slap it on a plate and serve it up with garlic and onions?

Actually from an economic standpoint, one might consider saving the placenta to give to the family dog as a treat. I'm sure you can't find this type of delicacy at PetSmart. And...it's free...very economic.
Maybe a doggy tug of war could follow with the umbilical cord?

Well Will, I had heard it on that neo-Nazi right-wing ABC talk-radio station here in NYC, home of neo-Nazi Rush Limbaugh, WABC-AM. It was the big topic in NY because the Dept of Health got involved saying they would investigate, with the Hessidic community tried to defend the practice, saying government shouldn't regulate religion -- this made it an even more controversial buzzed topic around the water cooler.
Many of the callers on the talk shows said the practice should stopped since it intermingled bodily fluids and if someone were to have an STD, it could be life-threatening to an infant. The herpies that was contracted by one of the three infants infected was indeed fatal.
I can't find anywhere that it said the mohel actually chews the foreskin or eats it, so I may have heard that discussed on the talk shows. But there is no doubt the rebbe puts his mouth on the infant's penis and sucks out the blood. And quite frankly, if one doesn't find that practice a bit disturbing, then why would anyone bat an eyelash at a mohel chewing a little foreskin? Well, maybe the homophobes might, but I mean normal people.
And here it is quoted from the article in another one of our neo-Nazi newspapers here in NY: quote:
Rabbi Under Investigation After Circumcised Infants Develop Herpes.
BY MAGGIE HABERMAN
New York Daily News
NEW YORK - (KRT) - New York city health officials are investigating whether a baby boy died after contracting herpes from the rabbi who circumcised him, the New York Daily News has learned.
The probe was launched after city officials realized that three infants in the city who tested positive for herpes last year all were circumcised by Rabbi Yitzchok Fischer. The Rockland County-based Fischer is a prominent mohel - someone who performs religious circumcisions.
Under Jewish law, a mohel is supposed to draw blood from the circumcision wound to remove impurities. Fischer uses a practice little known outside Orthodox communities called "metzizah bi peh," in which the mohel uses his mouth.
On Oct. 16, 2004, Fischer performed a bris, or religious circumcision, on twins. Ten days later, one infant died of herpes, and the other tested positive for the virus, according to papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court by city lawyers.
A few weeks later, city Health Department officials found a third baby, on Staten Island, that also tested positive for herpes after being circumcised by Fischer in late 2003, the papers say.
Herpes is far more dangerous to infants than adults because of babies' fragile immune systems. The health status of the two surviving boys was not clear yesterday.
The city "is concerned that the possible transmission of herpes simplex virus type 1 in infants may be continuing as a result of defendant's practice of metzizah bi peh," city lawyers wrote in the complaint, dated Dec. 22. "Defendant's conduct to date constitutes a threat to the public health."
The custom of metzizah is thousands of years old. But experts said that these days, many mohels breathe in through a sterile tube to draw the blood instead of using their mouths directly on the penis, although in some Orthodox sects, the oral practice is mandatory.
The city asked Fischer to submit to a blood test in November, and ordered him to stop performing metzizah by mouth while waiting for the results, court papers show. Officials told him to use a sterile tube and gloves in the meantime.
But the Health Department got a report that Fischer wasn't following the order, so the city filed the legal complaint to compel him do so.
Fischer, 66, declined to comment Tuesday.
His lawyer, Mark Kurzmann, wouldn't say whether Fischer has done the blood test, citing medical confidentiality. But he said Fischer is "cooperating with the city's investigation to resolve this matter."

I am surprised you even honored that uncalled for insult and very offensive post with that reply, Frank. Mr Kutler did not just imply that you may have been misinformed and that the statement may or may not have needed correction in his opinion, he basically claimed to know that you can only have read that in "your" "Neo-Nazi literature". In other words, he accused you of extremist racist tendencies of which I at least have never found any trace in any of your posts. Maybe Mr Kutler doesn't understand that these things are a little bit more serious and should be treated seriously.

I have never, ever heard of this so-called tradition. An internet search of this topic (with many, many hits) only referred to this one Mohel.
Kosher laws strictly prohibit the comsumption of blood (human or animal).
For centuries, the blood-libel was an anti-Semetic call-to-arms....such as the sacrifice on non-Jewish children and using their blood in the making of matzoh for the Passover Seder.

There really is something majorly wrong with this picture. I wonder if the kid to be circumcised was a 19 y/o hhot boi if Rabbi Fischer would perform the same ceremony with his mouth?
AND! Would he get paid, or just get to keep the tip?
"Food" for thought...
