Holy Shit!!! I just returned from a 5 hour massage!!! For about 10 bucks, you get your own room and a girl to rub your back all night. I left early because of a meeting this morning.
If I was travelling around China, this is how I would do it. 10 bucks for a private room with a shower, and a bathroom down the hallway! And a beautiful girl rubbing your back all night to boot! And to all you perverts out there....no sex was involved. (believe me i tried!)

One of the hottest thing I have ever seen in a non-porn movie is the scene in 'two days in the valley' where Jeff daniels is getting a massage and that asian girl goes "what you want, I do."
I rented this movie called happy endings thinking it was something to do with massage parlors, it wasnt.

Was this a room at your hotel/hostel, or a massage parlor?
Posted by Bobby Henderson (Member # 840) on 06-26-2006, 10:07 PM:
I thought Eric Stoltz was the one in the massage parlor room (pitching a tent no less) in Two Days In the Valley. Jeff Daniels' character was just out in the car bitching about his ex wife or some shit like that wasn't he? I'm sorry if I'm mistaken about it. The main thing I remember about that movie is Charlize Theron's screen debut in that tight white outfit and her getting oh so delightfully nekkid.
Posted by Chris Hipp (Member # 1788) on 06-26-2006, 10:12 PM:
You may be right, it was probably Eric Stolzt getting the massage and then he told Jeff Daniels that nothing happened.
I haven't seen it in forever.

Where was this massage parlor located? 2 dolla an hour?
Maybe you didn't get a happy ending because 10 bucks did not make her happy enough.
Wasn't 10 dolla the amount offered to the hooker in Full Metal Jacket(dialogue sampled in Me So Horny).

We have Chinese massage down from my house but they are $50.00 hour. While in Thailand a couple of years ago, it seems almost every other storefront is Thai massage....some legitament, some not

I was joking about trying to get sex. My happy ending was when I fell asleep after such a long massage. My intent going in this place was for a massage. You cannot beat the price. A couple of nights ago, Me , my cousin and his girlfriend all got massages at a different place. They got foot and leg massages. I got a back massage. We were all in the same room. The massage was 90 minutes and cost a total of 10 bucks for all of us.

You meant "a session". A classic Freudian slip. Don't let your Mormon neighbors find out! They might stone you.

There's (almost) NOTHING better than a foot massage done by someone that knows exactly what to do. Then the legs, then the back. I'm usually gone by the leg part.
Posted by Phil Hill (Member # 371) on 06-28-2006, 08:44 PM:
Sorry Bruce, but I'd take a "tension relieving" $25, 20-minute private room massage in China or Japan ANY DAY over some footsie play... Been there, done that.
OBTW: That reminds me of when I was a mere boy in my early 20's and I was enticed by a good friend to head north with him and go visit the Mustang Ranch when we were in Las Vegas. For $100, in advance, the "lady" promised me an hour of love and a BJ.
Well, needless to say, I got the hour of "teasing", a handjob, and when it came down to the moment of truth, all I got was a washcloth on my "privates"! <cough> rip-off <cough>
Posted by Michael Schaffer (Member # 1204) on 06-28-2006, 09:41 PM:
Wow, $100, and remember, you have to adjust for inflation. Phil in his early 20s, that was in the 1940s!

Hehe, I was at a big club last night and took a "girl" to a hotel. It was about 3a.m. we get to the room and I piss, then lay down in bed. She showers at this time and I doze off. I awake shortly after and see that my money is gone. Hehe she left me enough for my taxi and luckily she left my cell phone. I could have been fucked in a different way than I intended!

I think she should have taken your cell phone and all the money. That would have at least have properly taught you. When you go out anywhere where it's not quite safe, you should keep most of your money in places which are very hard to access anyway.

Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 06-29-2006, 05:02 PM:
Michael, that is why I leave all of my money at the apartment! She got about 100 bucks, and the hotel cost about 15 bucks. The nice thing is, she left a note apologizing for leaving, she had something to do!

This was taken at about 2 a.m. After many beers!!
Jen, it is hard to explain how the people here think. When I tell my girlfriend about this night, the only thing she will be pissed about is that I lost money!! 100 dollars is about the average monthly income here! If I had sex and paid this girl 100 dollars, then my girlfriend wouldn't care, as long as I wore a condom, because I got what I paid for.
This experience was priceless! I got to party with a hooker, check into a sleazy hotel, and then have her rip me off! All with no sex involved! For the record, I was really at this bar on business. I had talked to the president of a factory, and this was the closest place that had the product that we are going to import. We wanted to see it in use, not just at the factory.

I'm confused, Rick. Are you going to import hookers or condoms?
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 06-29-2006, 05:49 PM:
Hehe, can you import hookers?
Actually this was a dance club that had a wall about 50 feet wide and 15 or 20 feet tall covered with about 10,000 L.E.D.s that change color and move with the music. Kinda like windows media player when you play a music cd. We are dealing with the factory that makes the L.E.Ds and controller for this.
I will try to find the hooker factory though and see if I can get some samples to bring back!

Hehe, joe, look around your house and look at where everything is made. I bet 90% of everything is made in China or Taiwan.
Something that costs 5 dollars in America costs 50 cents from a retailer here. When I go to a factory and say I want that same item in a quantity of 10,000 then my cost becomes about 20 cents. When I bring that item back and sell it to you for 5 dollars, then I am a happy person!

Hey, Richard just discovered the Wal Mart business model!
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 06-29-2006, 07:11 PM:
The thing is, though, that I wouldn't buy it from you. Most of the stuff I have is made in Japan, with a few things from America, China and a few that are assembled in Mexico. If I wanted shoddy Chinese merchandise, I'd shop at Wal*Mart!
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 06-29-2006, 07:38 PM:
Joe, thats cool. But the reason I am importing things is the profit margin is incredible. As far as "shoddy", I don't think so. Even some of your day to day consumables are imported.
I am curious, because this interests me. Why do you think chinese merchandise is shoddy? I am only asking because I have been here so often and I don't see that. Is that just the stereotype of china, or have you had bad experiences with products that you have bought, and then look at the label and say "shit, no wonder! It was made in China!"
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 06-29-2006, 07:57 PM:
A lot of the clothing that I have purchased at Wal*Mart (yes I admit I have done that) has fallen apart much sooner than it should have. China is probably better than Mexico, but they don't take extreme pride in their work like the Japanese seem to (or at least used to). Instead workers are barely paid anything which is how they get their prices so low. But if you're profiting from it then that's all that matters and all is right in the world, correct? They are not interested in being the best, they are interested in being the cheapest so that they can get the sale. I know a lot of Japanese companies outsource to China and the like so you don't have to inform me of that. Maybe we should all outsource everything to cheaper places and do nothing on our own? Sounds like a plan. Pretty soon the US will see Chinese cars. I can't wait!

Don't know if this is real or not.
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 06-29-2006, 08:30 PM:
There are ten zillion people here wanting to work, and happy to be paid 100 bucks a month, so the labor rate here is next to nothing. Compare that to the States where a worker demands 50 bucks an hour and bitches if he has to work overtime, or doesn't get a cigarette break!! The 3d theater I did here has 6 people manning the booth every show. 1 person at both of the projectors, 1 at each platter,1 at the sound rack, and one supervising everything. A completely different work ethic. The pride in their work is better than I have witnessed any where else. If they fuck up, then they "lose face"
I doubt if we will see chinese cars. Audi has plants here and most of the private cars are audi A4s or mercedes. I think all of the taxis are jettas. There is also a handful of Buicks driving around.
Joe, Japan sucks! When I did some work there at a Minolta demo theater, they made me take me shoes off to enter the booth!!! Plus I couldn't find any hookers!!

People think the same way everywhere. They may act differently, but only on the surface, and the deeper the emotional level, the less "cultural" difference is there. It hurts girls from that cultural sphere just as much as from anywhere else if you are unfaithful, even "only" with a hooker. These things aren't even "cultural", they are very deeply ingrained in the human nature. They may be more likely to accept or tolerate it because of more patriarchical structures, but the emotional pain is just the same.
Keep that in mind.
I am not passing moral judgment on you, BTW. I come from a cultural sphere in which you can do a lot of things that are tabooed and even illegal in the US. I am just giving you some advice. I had several "Asian" girlfriends myself, and I know the tendency to think they somehow think differently because they look and behave differently is very strong. But it's not true, not under the surface layers.

You'd complain, Richard, if you made less than you do installing IMAX or whatever the hell it is that you do. If anyone working for me complained about not being able to get special breaks just to smoke, I'd fire them in an instant. Hell, I probably wouldn't even hire a smoker. They should have thought of the constant need to satisfy their cravings before entering the workforce where actual work is expected.
A lot of what is wrong with the American industry can be attributed to constant minimum wage increases. Minimum wage goes up, everyone else's wage in America stays the same. I can see why people complain about that. Unions then go on strike and eventually most wages everywhere else get a bit of a boost. To survive, prices everywhere in the country must go up. And when prices go up minimum wage is increased again. Inflation is to be expected, but it is happening much more quickly than it should. Unions had the right idea when they were started, which is rights and fair pay for workers. There isn't any need for unions if workers are being treated and paid fairly.
Of course in China zillions want to work and they are happy to make $100 a month. That's because there are quadrillions of them and there are so few jobs, and jobs that pay $100 a month can usually only be found at the big factories.
Posted by David Stambaugh (Member # 1102) on 06-29-2006, 08:53 PM:
There's a lot of variability in the quality of Chinese manufactured goods. Some of it's fine. The electronics for example. Sheesh, everything in consumer electronics is made in China now. Some "pro" stuff too like network hardware. All made under contract for US & Japanese companies to their specifications and probably indistingushable from US-built product. Where I work we've purchased about 30 el-cheapo 13" TVs in the last year (tools for game developers) and amazingly not one of them has been DOA and none has died even though they're left on 24/7. Considering their lack of brand names and the ~$60 retail price that seems like a pretty good track record.
On the other hand there's Chinese-made office furniture (chairs for example) that just don't hold up. Of course that may be why they sell for $60 instead of $600 like Hon or Herman Miller (before they outsourced their mfg. to China that is).
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 06-29-2006, 08:53 PM:
Michael, I know. That is why I have not cheated on her. She told me once because we are so far away that I can have sex with a girl, but only for 1 night and if I am safe. I cannot do that because I know it is not right. The other night, I would not have had sex with this other girl had I stayed awake. I just thought it was a funny experience I would share. I will tell my girlfriend about it.
Joe, what would happen if America closed their borders and stopped all imports? There are not enough people and factories in America to support the lifestyle that we are used to.
Posted by Pravin Ratnam (Member # 1417) on 06-29-2006, 10:33 PM:
Oh man, Richard, you are a very strange man. You get a massageee without a happy ending and then bring a hooker into your room not to have sex, only to end up losing money that would have paid for the hooker for an entire night anyway? I wish I can get a girlfriend with her attitude. When I read your story, I was thinking like her, "damn those 100 bucks got stolen and he didn't even get laid"
The only thing to feel guilty about is carrying around 100 bucks when you are partying drunk with a stranger.
No need to feel defensive about outsourcing. I boycott Walmart (well 99% boycott) only because of how they behave in the US not because they get cheap imports from China. What are you importing from China, anyway?
Have lots of fun. Man, you look like Sean Astin from Rudy in the profile pic , but look like Theo from Road Rules in the pic with the chinese hooker.

At the Petro truck stop in Bordentown, NJ, there's a Korean family that runs the massage concession in the foyer. Everytime you walk by, the girls all come out to hound you: "You want massage? You want massage?"
Normally, I just nod them off and continue walking, but one day, I stopped and said, "How much to give YOU one?"
It got a big laugh from all the truckers standing around.

Pravin,
We will be importing clothes, electronics, food items, novelty items. The list is endless. This trip we are dealing with all the different factories and finalizing prices and details and ordering product. As soon as this comes together, I will have a website. Right now we are dealing with some big companies in the States that want to buy from us, and concentrating on their orders.

You'd complain, Richard, if you made less than you do installing IMAX or whatever the hell it is that you do.
No, I wouldn't. I negotiate what I get paid before I do the job. Every install or service call is different. If a company doesn't agree to what rate i feel is right for the job, then I go on to the next job.
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 06-30-2006, 11:55 PM:
OK you may not complain, but you wouldn't work. Then you'd be FORCED to accept a lower wage just so you wouldn't have to cut back on expenses like the Penthouse magazine subscription and whatnot.
You negotiate for service calls? You definitely should have a per-hour thing going on. Somebody calls in a panic "Hey I've got a screen down, it's out largest and most popular auditorium and it's Saturday! Help!" You say "Well I can do it for $50 an hour since I am American and cannot work for less, plus overtime since it is a weekend". They reply with "What? You are insane!" And then by the time you are done bartering Saturday night is over. I'd feel pissed if I called you for a service call only to find out that the guy across town got charged less for whatever reason for the same amount of work.
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 07-01-2006, 02:17 AM:
I definately negotiate service calls. For P.M. contracts, I negotiate 2 visits a year plus one emegency call. If a theater uses an emergency call and needs more service, then I charge them 800 dollars a day plus all of my expenses, for special venue. For a commercial theater I charge about 450 dollars a day plus expenses. This is all discussed beforehand. If I can negotiate a rate with the theater, then I do.

There is an unfortunate attitude that a person’s skills and services are not tangible items, like hamburgers or joggers. Therefore, they have no value.
Movies fall into this category. So do computer software programs and service technicians.
Cinema operators and their employees are victims of people who steal movies. They, more than anyone should reward good service technicians who, in my experience, are never worth less than they charge.

Joe, this is bugging me that you said this. When I was 18, I had a part time job delivering bread to stores. The factory workers went on strike, For what reason I don't know. I think they felt they deserved an extra vacation day every year. The same people that I had worked with for a year and considered friends would yell at me and spit at me and call me a "fucking scab" every time I went to work doing the same thing I had done for a year. This cost the factory a shitload of money and caused an increase in the price of their products. Then when they settled whatever it was, and came back to work, they tried to talk to me like we were still friends. Me being the smartass that i am said "fuck this" and I ended up leaving this job shortly after.
I never said that America is bad. I just don't agree with some of the things that go on. I negotiate my rate based on my experience and knowledge. Yes, I am happy to earn what I can. I also charge the same rate for jobs I do out of the country.
Alright, I am done ranting. Joe, I don't know if you were joking or not, it just came off wrong to me. No problems though, I enjoy making the same kind of remarks! It is 11 P.M. here, I am going to see if I can find a hooker to give me a massage!

Here is a picture of her getting ready before we went out to dinner, taken in our apartment.

Here is a picture of her at dinner with our friends, I am not in this picture because I took the picture!

When I see her in a couple of weeks, I will have one of her girlfriends take a picture of me and her having sex! I won't post it though, it will be for my private collection. I don't care if some of you don't think this is my girlfriend.

get her out of that shit-hole country
Seriously? Have you been here before?
This is a view from the apartment of a good friend of mine. This is where I am staying now and will become our business address as we start this import company. If you look behind the apartment complex towards the right, there is a golf course.

This is 2 blocks away from the apartment

The other night we went to a bar that was better than any other bar I have ever been to in any country. They even had Peavey speakers! I will wear my Peavey shirt there tonight! When the waitress brought our beers, she sat them on the table and spun them around so the labels were facing us. Later I was sitting at the table and scooted over 6 inches to look out the window at something, within seconds, a waitress was at the table and scooted my beer 6 inches towards me. Later I picked up the little plastic "table tent" to look at it, it was blank, and befrore I sat it down, a waitress had already sat a menu in front of me.
"Shit-hole" it is not. Me and my girlfriend are actually talking about me moving here for a couple of years if I can earn the same money I earn now. And then her coming to the states.

Rick - this is obviously not true. Why else would you post all these pictures, some of a rather private nature, to convince us? Frankly, I am rather disturbed by this display of your girlfriend or whoever the young lady in the pictures is as some kind of exotic object or price.
Just because you come from a richer country and find yourself in a position in which you can act the big guy and impress and/or buy girls doesn't mean they are objects. And I am not saying that from a moralist point of view - I come from a country myself in which all these things are perfectly legal.
It is the colonialist aspect which I find saddening.
And what's wrong with this dude's head?
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 07-04-2006, 04:35 AM:
Michael,
I am confused at what you find disturbing. I don't consider her as an "object or price". Someone asked me to post a picture and I did. She is very proud of these pictures and will probably be very excited to see them on the internet.
Who said I act the big guy and buy girls? The hooker came to my table and started talking to me. We had a good time and she did her job. She would have charged me 30 bucks an hour just to sit and talk. I found this whole situation funny the next morning, that is why I shared it. I guarantee you that she had to give the bar a cut of what she took from me.
The massage thing is a different story. I have gone to massage parlors here with my girlfriend before. It is strictly for a massage. I am not being a big shot and paying for a girl, I pay the same price that the Chinese man in the next room pays.
I noticed the guys head right after I posted the pic!
Oh, and by the way, I would take ShenZhen over Utah any day!

I want to go to China, but it can be expensive. I met somebody who was doing cheap trips, but they were mainly for looking at steam trains; he did some 'family' trips as well, but two years ago he was fully booked, and stopped doing it when steam finished on the main line. I know somebody who's been there several times on business; he says everythings changing so quickly.
The big barrier as far as I am concerned is the language! The other problem is that my health is deteriorating, and I don't know if I could manage a 12 hour flight now; 7 hours to Newark is bad enough, I could hardly walk, or even stand, for long for the first day when I last came over, in May.
As for the subject of this thread, I can't bear anybody touching me, so I certainly wouldn't want to go to a massage parlor! I can't find a graemlin for <shudder>.

China a hot spot for lusty lady tourists
As the majority of China's 2006 college graduates face unemployment, many can take comfort in knowing their country is home to a budding sex tourism trade.
A new report by China's National Development and Reform Commission says 60% of graduates this year will be unable to find work.
While the number of college graduates has jumped by 22% to 4.13 million this year, the number of jobs created has fallen by the same percentage, to 1.66 million.
Some simple arithmetic says roughly 2.5 million of China's newest college graduates are facing unemployment this year.
But there is good news, at least for the men in the Class of 2006: sex tourism is booming in mainland China. Wealthy women from Hong Kong or Taiwan are creating a heavy demand for yazi -- or "ducks," male prostitutes -- in Beijing.
Xu Wen is a pimp with a stable of young studs walking the streets of the nation's capital. He says being a gigolo isn't as glamorous and exciting as it sounds.
"When they [ducks] get to have sex with a beautiful girl, they are excited,' says Xu. 'But often it's old and unattractive women, which they find pretty disgusting."
Xiao Yu says working the blue-hair circuit isn't so awful.
'It's not that bad. It's just a job,' Xiao says.
Luckily, it's not just older women who are causing a spike in business. Many women in their twenties are looking for sex.
Jenny, 26, and her friends like to cruise the bars singing, drinking and throwing and dice. Sometimes it's nice having a man around.
"My friends have white-collar jobs, except for one who's a housewife. She's bored of sex with her husband, so she spends his money sleeping with yazi. It's very normal. It's not cheating, because it has nothing to do with love; I can easily separate sex and love. I just do it for the sex."
While the money is good -- most ducks earn seven times as much as the average worker -- Xiao may be in for a rude awakening.
"I do it to pay my way through university. I'm a student at the Central Academy of Drama."

Michael,
I didn't say any place in particuluar that she shold move to, just a place of freedom. She is still a Communist and lives in a Comminust country no matter how well she or they may hide that fact. A taste of freedom is what all the people in China deserve!

Nope, it would be fun to visit but its near the end of my "to visit list". Italy, Greece, and most of Europe and Scandaniva are near the top of my "to Visit" list.
There is just no way in hell that I could take any Comunust Country seriously...ever. You seem to be ignorant of the way it REALLY IS over there. No human rights... Yes! your girlfriend has NO RIGHTS AT ALL! She must comform to her governments wants and needs... its just the way it works in Comminism. Indeed she just might be watcing you for her Government! How would you ever know? Also the poor working conditions and amount of pollition China generates are the worst in the world... Its apparent that you don't know the real China.

I think Utah has been pretty good to you as far as work goes.... Myself having spent time in 49 of the 50 states, quite a bit in many of them, I can definately say that Utah is by far my favorite place, thats why I moved here. U think Muchael also found Utah to be an amazing place. Montana runs a close second with Wyoming third, with Arizona and New Mexico in there next. Having lived in Illinois for most of my life I can speak that it is a most boring place to live and that with awful weather and unhealthy humidity levels. You have to love seeing lots of corn...everywhere!

Without getting political about this... get real! You can bet they were Commies until they learned that there are other better ways of life in the world! There are minority factions like that in every country of that sort hoping to win their own and their countries freedom and to receive better human rights. Of course alot of those people that demonstrated that day were killed by authorities and many more of them are in prison. A great place, isn't it?

Ya know Rick, this whole thing about your girlfriend reminds me of another thread on here from a few years ago. I don't remember what the thread was originally about, but I had just started working out and I made a comment about how much weight I had gained. I was at 160lbs when I started and after three months I was up to 190lbs. Mostly muscle but you obviously do gain some fat while building muscle. Of course the "experts on everything" on here jumped all over that saying that it was impossible to gain more than 10lbs of muscle per year and blah blah blah. I didn't dignify them with a real response because I figure that them thinking they know everything is probably what gets them off at night so I didn't want to spoil their fun. The truth is a ate like a horse, 3-4 cans of tuna a day, at least a dozen eggs, two 50g protein gainer shakes per day, tons of rice and bean. to facilitate protein synthesis, etc, combined with heavy lifting. Steady gains of about two pounds per week followed. Telling them that would not make them believe me so I didnt even bother.
Same thing has happened with you, some of the same people actually. It seems that some people on this site feel the need to attack anything they dont have or can't get. Read as Girl or laid. I would be lying if I claimed to be a ladies man and sleeping with a different girl every night, but I am not going to attack you because of my problems with getting a girl in my bed. Girlfriend or not, as long as you are sleeping with her then good for you.

I've switched from tuna to canned chicken now. It is a little less for a little more money but it tastes so much better. I still use tuna for rice and spaghetti, I cook it in lemon juice to kill the fish taste. I mix the canned chicken with eggs, pickles and mustard to make sandwiches out of, plus with the chicken it doesnt seem to smell like fart gas after being in the fridge for a few hours.
Check out the recipe page on bodybuilding.com. A lot of good information on that site.

Joe as far as legitimate products, the different factories we are meeting with are going to customize the products to our needs and put our logos, or whichever company we sell them to in the states logo on them.
John, I will be in Shanghai for the weekend, Know of any good massage parlors?
Actually it will be a very good weekend. My friends Uncle is going to take us to different factories. According to my friend, he is one of the most powerful and important businessman in Shanghai.
Richard, The amount of construction here is amazing. When I first stayed here, I was in the middle of downtown Changchun (here) Right across the street, they were tearing down an old 5 or 6 story building. It was amazing to watch and see the progress each day, because they did it by hand and basically had workers there 24/7. Now it is about a 30 or 40 story tall apartment complex with a mall on the bottom 2 floors. We bought an apartment there last year during the beginning of the construction when the prices were low. My girlfriend says it will be ready in about 2 weeks, so that is when I am planning on visiting Changchun. She already rented out our last apartment(we actually bought them). Pretty soon I will be the Donald Trump of China!!

Again, yes.
Why are they adopting babies from China? Aren't there more than enough orphans in the US? I recently saw a bit about that from Carlos Mencia, he said there are, but many of them are black, and apparently a lot of people don't want that! Surprisingly, a lot of black babies get adopted to Germany (where I think there are enough orphans, too, so I don't understand why). That may not be seen as a problem right now, but, again according to Mencia, it will be when at the Olypmic Games a lot of 7' tall black German dudes with names like Shaquile Schickelberger take all the medals. Man, that was so funny. I am still laughing about that joke.

O.K. boys and girls, I'm back!!! Hehe. I just got back from Shanghai. Very productive trip!
Here is a pic of the city from a boat trip we took on the Huang Pu River. Cool as hell! Shanghai is a beautiful city.

Here is a pic of this girl that the president of a company set me up with. I had no idea. We were just driving to TGI Fridays, and he had already arranged for this girl to come with us. She is a friend of his family's, and single. So he was trying to hook us up. We went to a bar and she proceeded to drink me under the table. We played drinking games and she kicked my ass!!! When we arrived at the bar, it was almost the end of happy hour, 2 for 1 drinks. She ordered 10 bottles of beer, so they proceeded to bring 20 bottles of beer to our table!!

More to come later! I'm off for a massagee!! Rick

I hope you were being sarcastic. Minimum wage in the U.S. hasn't been raised in years and it hasn't even kept pace with inflation. The minimum wage in 1966 was $1.25. Just to adjust for CPI, it should be $7.81. If you want the U.S. to turn into a third world country, where there's only rich and poor, you don't raise the minimum wage. Two people working full time on minimum wage wind up below the poverty line in most cities in the U.S.
And only about 15% of American workers are members of a trade union, so in most industries, unions are a non-issue. It might have seemed in the 70s and 80s as companies added benefits and there was tremendous job expansion, especially as technology took hold, that unions were no longer necessary. I received great salaries and benefits during those years and I never would have voted to join a union. But if you look at recent wholesale layoffs, stagnant wages, failure of pension plans and dangerous conditions in coal mines and such places as chicken processing plants, unions are needed now more than ever.
Also, while inflation was a big issue in the 70s and 80s, inflation in the U.S. has been at its lowest level ever over the last 20 years or so.
As far as all of our manufacturing going to China and other third-world countries, while this is unfortunate, there's nothing anyone can do about it. You either have an open trade policy or you don't. If you have an open trade policy, then manufacturing is going to go where it can be supplied the cheapest. My problem with this is that except perhaps at the low-end, I don't believe that the American consumer is benefitting from this. It drives me nuts when I buy expensive designer clothing and see that it's been manufactured in India or China or VietNam. The cost savings is going to the company, not to the consumer. Either pass on the cost savings or keep the manufacturing in the U.S.
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 07-15-2006, 09:40 PM:
Martin,
My problem with unions is that I have run into some real assholes on jobsites and they have an attitude because they are "union". We did an install near Chicago, and all of the trades were "non-union". After the theater opened, almost every night there were screens that were slashed, Toilets that had socks filled with concrete mix dropped in them, and even a pipe bomb. All the pissed off union workers, angry because we hired non union hard working workers.
Like I said in an earlier post, I was doing a job that I had done for years. The factory workers went on strike, and I had to cross the picket line every morning to do my job. My so called "friends", even older ladies would yell and spit at me and call me a "fucking scab". All because I wasn't a part of their little club

Believe it or not, it is a back massage only, not the kind of sleazy massage place you are thinking of. I met a very nice girl in Shanghai who drank me under the table. I tended bar at a bar 2 blocks from the apartment I am at. I met a Phillipene band and socialize with the members. They like me because they cannot speak Chinese, but they do speak fluent English. Yes I am having fun here and meeting new commie friends. No I have not paid for sex. My girlfriend is too "smokin hot" for me to screw up that relationship.

And BTW, such activities are perfectly legal in many parts of the world, so your pseudo-moralistic insinuations in themselves are massively insulting to those who work in such occupations. Think about that.

And the line goes dead......
Outside you see an old Chinese man, with the stereotypical cone hat and a pair of MIB style sunglasses, with a giant pair of novelty scissors cutting the line.
..... Meanwhile, back at the boneless chicken ranch......

O.K., not an exciting night last night. I overslept and missed the subway, so I couldn't go see the band. So we walked around the "real" China, and the only pic I have is of me cooking. I have a date with Jen, the "chick in the red shirt" tonight, so I will try to get some drunken naked pics for all you pervs
, but don't think I won't enjoy doing it
I don't think this place would pass any health inspections, but the food was damn good! And the bare lightbulb just hanging was classic.

Rick-
I know this doesn't involve drunk, naked women...but what are the theatres like in China?

How do you know that theaters in China don't have drunk, naked women?
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 07-23-2006, 01:27 AM:
Matt,
When I was in Changchun, which is a city of about 8 million people, I only saw one theater. It was a single screen in the middle of other businesses. I took pictures, but the TSA stole my camera that trip. It was an older, about 300 seat single. The projectors were an older Chinese brand, and they had a CP-50 I think. I could not find any other theaters there, which is surprising because film is their main industry in that city.
I have not seen a theater here in Shen Zhen. I just asked my friend and she is new to this city and doesn't know where any are.
People talk about Pirated DVD's, but think about it, a city of 8 million people and only one screen. I am sure there are more, but they aren't that common. I watched Spiderman2 there and we had to bring in our own food and drinks. They didn't sell concessions.
Here you go, a handfull of the movies I bought the other night. The shop is supposed to have a copy of "little man" for me tonight! Are the film studios losing money because I bought these? I don't buy or rent movies when I am in the States.

Yes, they are.
However, the import into China of such movies as Episodes I-III, Scary Movie, or any Jean-Claude Van Damme or Adam Sandler movie serves the strategically very important purpose of dumbing down the Chinese people so they are less of an economic threat to the Western World. By supporting these imports, you did your patriotic duty. (And indeed by simply being there and making your very own personal contribution to dumbing them down.)

Michael, I corrupt their young girls every night!
I really don't think they are losing money from me buying DVDs here. I haven't payed to see a movie in over 20 years. I would not buy or rent any of these movies in the states. I only buy them here because they are less than a buck apiece. And it gives me something to do when I am not out chasing hookers around, there aren't any good t.v. stations here

You should use that time to learn Chinese rather than killing off your remaining brain cells with Van Damme movies.

Thanks for the info...you have to wonder why they don't have more screens. - Matt

Richard, who is taking all of these pictures of you?
Posted by Richard Hamilton (Member # 321) on 07-23-2006, 08:40 AM:
Joe, my cousin/business partner is taking the pictures. I don't trust the little commies enough to hand them my camera and ask them to take a pic of me!
Shit, sorry if I crossed any boundaries with that remark, but Mark G got me paranoid.

In the meantime, you could post some pictures of your exciting nightlife in the US. No, wait, there is no such thing!
