Here's a memory for you - found it on one of my favorite "old junkshop record bin sharing" websites, and put it on my site for you.
1967-68 and 1968-69 Will Rogers Hospital In-Theater Promos.
I understand the Will Rogers Institute still does its in-theater fundraising annually, but these days they just run a trailer asking you to contribute by buying a special popcorn and soda combo-pack at the concession stand, or making a donation in the box there.
"Back in the day," many will recall, the trailer would ask you to drop your donation in canisters passed through the theater row by row by the ushers. I recall my own feeling was a mix of resentment and shame, along with a touch of "none of these cheap bastards is going to give a penny, and I got nothing to spare either."
Here are two ten-inch records from the late 1960s designed to be played over the theater sound system backing up either a slide or a blank screen (there's a label image in the zipfile).
The first disc, from the 1967-68 season, is one-sided. It features a male voice giving the appeal followed by a 7- minute version of LeRoy Andersen's "Blue Tango" to allow time for collections. The second disc, the 1968-69 message, is two-sided. On side 1 a male voice gives the 2-minute message, followed by 3 minutes of music. On side 2, a female voice gives the message, followed by the same music.
Both discs, with all three messages, are in the same zipfile. Download this classic, rare, spoken-word material. I will leave it on my website for a few weeks.
