I am very proud of my 11 year old daughter Adelle. About 7:10 PM on Sunday, she saw her 3 yo brother going into the family swimming pool. This is one of these above ground contraptions. Her brother does not know how to swim. She was on the swing/slide set in the back yard and saw him climb up to retreive a ball. He dove in and quickly ran into trouble.

She very loudly yelled "MOM" with one of those death type screams, and then jumped from the top of the slide, which is about four feet from the swimming pool, into the pool and retreived her little brother, pulling him up from under the water and to her awaiting mom and step dad who were just rushing out of the back door.

They are both ok, and recovering from the experience nicely. My daughter called me up to tell me what happened, and started crying as soon as she started talking to me. It was a very harrowing experience, and she was incredibly brave, and I am very proud of her.

It wasn't too long ago her little 18 month old cousin died and that just crushed her, and I know this would have been too much. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. [Eek!]

This is one kid I am not too worried about.

Congratulations and glad everyones safe, but sounds like someone needs to supervise the little kid more. Either that or get a cover for the pool.

When I was 15 years old my 2 yo cousin was found drowned in the family pool. I loved that little girl, but was unable to attend the funeral, as it was in another state. It took 12 years before I spoke of it or visited the grave, and let me tell you the emotional toll that took keeping it bottled for all those years.

I took my daughter out for her to buy anything (within reason) she wanted, as a hero's reward. She purchased a pair of black shoes with orange (her favourite colour) tracings and an orange jolly roger on them. She is a bit of a punk! I should get pictures of these things. They are from a company called "anarchist" clothing, or something like that.

Andru, the three year old, got a stern but loving lecture about safety, and all hazards have been attended to. Today he tried running out the door and I nearly killed my own self stopping the little speed demon before he entered the street. He is also brave, but he is three, and yes, needs much more supervision.

My daughter has not let it go to her head.. yet.. and I do not think it will. She and I had a real long talk today about bravery, heroism, and selflessness. What she did was what most people think they would do, but you would never know it until it happened. She sacrificed herself for him, he is a very lucky little boy, and I think he knows how special his big sister is.

People, you don't know what fate has for us, so never miss a chance to reach out to people you know, or even those you do not. I could go on forever, but I will spare you the mess that would be.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. It has been a hectic week.
