Is it something strange about me, or does anybody else find that the screen often looks larger when looking from the projection room than it does when sitting in the auditorium? Any ideas why?

The port window restricts your peripheral vision. This prevents you from being able to determine the size of the screen in relation to its actual environment.
I just made that up, but it sounds pretty good.

Sounds like a good explanation to me. The windows sets a frame that the screen fills easily, making it seem that the screen fills the entire view. It's either that, or you have some sort of lens as your viewport, at which point I must ask, how do you focus?
