Local news tonight told of paramedics going to a cinema in Cambridgshire where a person faited during a scene in Saw 3.

We had someone throw up on the seat in front of them. I'm not sure if that qualifies them as a victim or not.

I've had people pass out in all kinds of movie, the content has very little to do with it. We had to have an ambulance come out for a guy that collapsed while watching V for Vendetta, it did not make the news though.

I'm sure just about everyone has had multiple people hurl during the presentation of the fine cinema that was The Blair Witch Project.

During the first show opening night (which was sold out) a customer passed out less than five minutes into the movie. We shut down the projector, got him into the lobby, and called 911. He refused to go the hospital after two cop cars and two ambulances arrived... a little overkill to say the least.
Last night I came out of the booth around 11:15 to see an ambulance and cop car again. Turns out someone else passed out. One of her friends called 911 from her cell phone. This girl went to the hospital.
Besides that, we had vomiting in bathrooms and once in the auditorium in the garbage can at the back of the room. It's a college town so we'll have this film for weeks. Fun to look forward to.

As in, hurl stuff at the screen in frustrated boredom?
Posted by Phil Hill (Member # 371) on 11-02-2006, 01:29 AM:
Oh PUHLEEEZE! People fainting? How lame! What a bunch of pussies!
It's almost as bad as in the mid-seventies when "The Exorcist" came out! It scared the hell outta me, but I sure didn't faint!
Ummm...BUT! No matter how stupit, it was like when I saw "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers" I had nightmares!
BTW: I haven't seen "Saw III" yet, but liked 1 & 2!

Does kicking two 13 yr olds out for having sex in the first row of the stadium seating count?
We had a puker in Grudge 2 on its opening night, but so far only kids having sex in Saw 3.
A few years ago, at my old building, a middle aged guy had a heart attack and died during the first reel of Taking Lives, so I guess that counts. It didn't make the news though
Posted by Mark J. Marshall (Member # 1409) on 11-02-2006, 09:04 AM:
Too bad you didn't think to take some pictures to give to their parents when they came back to pick them up.
Or would that constitute kiddie porn?

Before I got to be managment, I used to like to turn up the houselights on them so the other people in the auditorium could oggle them. If they're alone, I usually take a clean spray bottle, fill it with water, and squirt them with it. I like to ebaress them as much as I can, maybe in hopes of teaching them not to have sex in a theatre, but mostly it's just my sadistic side coming out.
Posted by Steve Maggs (Member # 444) on 11-04-2006, 07:42 PM:
We've had a number of people leave the cinema. Some have come out to get a bottle of water etc. We are showing it on an 82 foot wide screen which obviously adds to the impact. No vomiting yet that I know of but its only been here 3 days so far.
As a sideline, what rating / classification has it received around the world? Here in Australia it has received an MA15+ which means anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult or not admitted. Usually the films with this level of blood and gore receive an R rating here (no one under 18 admitted at all). Many of our patrons are commenting that they thought it should have received the stronger classification.

"Usually?" How often does this happen anyway?
Posted by Charles Greenlee (Member # 3856) on 11-04-2006, 10:37 PM:
People try it all the time. I don't catch them everyday, but I'm sure someone trys everyday. At my current theatre, I haven't caught anyone doing anything more than making out, which I still raised the lights a little and then back down to let them know they're not alone. However, a the Carmike's, the back row is a little closer to the back wall, and thus harder to see from the booth, and I'd scare someone at least once a week. I'd actually check for them. But anyhow, back to people fainting because of a lame horror flick.

I was just told we had our third victim last night. So far: 2 guys, 1 girl.

If any teens want to start shagging in the back row, that should put them in the mood then...
Posted by Charles Greenlee (Member # 3856) on 11-06-2006, 10:56 PM:
Too bad we aren't showing it. I have a supersoaker at home I'd love to play with at work. Hose them down.

We caught two couples having sex in Celluar. There must be something about cellular...
We had a guest pass out in Saw, and the last guest to pass out before that was in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. (the remake starring Jessica Beil) It never made the news, but someone's tail gate was stolen in our parking lot and that made the town's bulletin.
!!Hmmm, turning up houselights a bit, I should try that...

We had no less than 6 people come out feeling sick on the opening night of this movie, one of which had a fit and an ambulace was called. They all came out of two different screens. At first some of the managers thought it was something in the air handling system,as the filters had just been changed, but then we realized the two screens were showing the same film. The problems seem to be in the first 15 minutes where the guy rips chains from his body coupled with stupid jerky camera work. When are people going to stop making this
?

Wow. Thankfully no one has spewed in our building since a kid overdosed on apple-cinnamon kernel seasons
Just look on the brightside, LGF announced there's 3 scripts for SAW 4 already...

Oh good, so that means we'll see SAW 4, 5 and 6.
We haven't played one of these masterpieces yet and I hope we never do. Sometimes having only one screen is a blessing.

Agree with you completely, Mike. Who needs more saws?
Posted by John Wilson (Member # 269) on 11-12-2006, 04:24 AM:
Ah, the pleasures of second run...we may not get all the people day one , but we get do get to choose what we want to play which excludes all the junk like Saw 26, Grudge 32 etc. etc. etc.

Personally,If I had a choice,I would never work in a theatre with more than 6 screens.Because then they would probably be forced to pick and choose the cream of the films. The trouble with working in large multiplexes, apart from chasing round the place, usually single manning,is the endless shite we have to show.Crappy remakes of classic films or sequals of already rubbish films you cheered when you got rid of them the last time..Ive got a sore head.:mad

Almost one year on and we have Saw 4.
In Australia it was originally classified with an R rating meaning no one under the age of 18 can be admitted. An appeal lodged had that over turned to an MA 15+. This rating is the one that causes the most problems for us. Under 15 must be accompanied by an Adult guardian. Suddenly everyone is 15.
The film opens here on Thursday. My post last year about Saw 3 being screened on an 82 foot screen can now be updated as we have opened a larger screen meaning Saw 4 will be on an 85 foot screen here in Brisbane.

Good luck and God speed.
Over in our neck of the woods we're gearing up as all the kids can't wait to see Saw "I. V." (read eye, vee)...Yes, kids are asking when Saw I.V. comes out and why it's not just Saw 4...
Posted by John Wilson (Member # 269) on 10-22-2007, 09:47 AM:
So SAW4 and Michael Clayton have the exact same censorship rating? WTF? I'm at a loss to find anything in Clayton to warrant anything higher than an 'M' certificate.

My only major dealings with vomit were never in auditoriums.
One guy I saw standing at the area we kept our rolling trash cans, locked out and since he wasn't a teenager I realized he wasn't trying to sneak in through that back door. He said he hadn't felt well and had been back there throwing up into a trash can (I wondered why he didn't go into the restroom since it was right next to him but whatever). Then I find that he threw up in the only can that didn't have a liner in it so I had to rinse that shit out; damn that sucked.
Another time a guy launched a Lasagna dinner all over a bathroom stall. Smelled so bad that a manager started dumping concentrated floor cleaner right on the floor.
And the last one really made me mad:
This kid who used to work at the theater kept on walking past me to our auditoriums and it was a little while before we were open but I wasn't worried about him doing something crazy since he wasn't a bad guy. I should've realized he was using the bathroom repeatedly. Then I see him sprinting down the hall suddenly stop and there's a shimmering thing on the floor and I find a small layer of vomit that goes across a couple different auditoriums.

Fainting from watching a movie? That person had better get a thorough physical because there has to be some underlying medical condition. Healthy people don't faint from being frightened. If they did, you couldn't fight a war.
As for sex in the theatre proper, I guess you should put a stop to that only if you are playing a G or PG rated film....if you are playing an R, the rest of the patrons shouldn't be offended.
Years ago when I was just a year or two older then the students, I was walking up the 5 flights of stairs to the booth and turned into a small alcove which lead to the booth and control rooms. There I came upon two students heavy in the middle of it. Being of an age where I knew how difficult it was to first of all get the girl to agree, and then second to find a secluded place to actually do it, I was totally sympathetic to their plight and actually felt quite sorry that I had interrupted them. I had to actually step over them to get to the door. All I said was, "Sorry to interrupt....I'll be out of your way in a second." Of course, there was a part of my brain that wanted to say, "Hey, can I join in?" but I thought better of it. But I sure kept thinking about it all during the show.

Didn't see SAW, but where I worked there was a guy that had a heart attack and died during the hypo-needle scene in Pulp Fiction. The EMS guys were zapping him right in his seat.

The boredom factor in that movie can kill children.
Why does anyone care about the Saw movies?
