The Wii on the BIG SCREEN!

We used to do that with older systems... on a MUCH bigger screen!

Joe just HAS to be the best at everything...

I know of a 6 screen that has X-BOX HALO2 on friday nights after midnite til 3am .. with paid admits. Plus, getting permission from Microsoft to do this setup.
4 X-Box units tied together via network cable through a switch, four digital projectors-one per each house. Uses 4 controllers per house. Sound is piped in via cable to an A/B switch to the NonSync inputs of the processors so one can enjoy the sound from behind the screens (and using ground loop isolators on the sound inputs..)
quite impressive and quite the fun to play ... - Monte

I've heard the Xbox 360 can be plugged directly into the Christie CP2000's. There is no need for an external processor. Anyone else know about this?
Also, we have a Cine-IPM 2K sitting here at the theatre. It will be installed as soon as our Christie tech is free. Hopefully, this is only a couple weeks away. I don't have a Wii yet. But that would give me all the more motivation to track one down.

Not just the 360. I hear the PS3 has the same output as well.

Pffft. Back in my day we used S-video. And that's way better than any of these newfangled connections you kiddies have these days!

Do these have a DVI output? If not, you need a converter. The Texas Instruments video engine does not accept any kind of analog input. If you have a DVI output, you can more or less just plug it in. You may have to make a new format though, which is easy if you know how the setup works...and if you know the password for the touch panel.

When I worked at planet hollywoods screening room in Sydney, hooking up the video games was one of the first things I did
That was in the days of tube barco's and line quadrupelers

I'm impressed by the range of the sensor. I assume they had it up front somewhere. It looks like that may be the most athletic activity those guys have had in awhile.

Whomever told you this is full of B.S. The XB 360 is only capable of outputting an analog signal, and the best it can do is 720p. As Michael stated, the engine will only accept digital signals incoming from DVI or HD-SDI.
In order to use the 360 on the CP2K, or any other 2K cinema projector for that matter- an A/D converter and/or Scaler is needed.
I know of one particular theater that uses a IPM-2K scaler and the 360 to play games on a 50ft screen using a CP2000. The picture looks great and the theater uses a DMA-8 to get full 5.1 sound from the games. Much better looking than that cheezy dukane looking projector in the video.
Personally, I get motion-sick playing games on a screen so large but it still is impressive to see.
It looks as though the Wii is only capable of 420p, which is exceptionally crappy and disappointing considering the game system was just recently released.
The PS3 on the other hand is fully capable of HD-DVD or Blu-ray specs with 1080P output over HDMI. That would look impressive on screen considering it is very close to a 2K intermediate. Does anyone know if any of the PS3 games are formatted in 1080P?
Posted by Michael Schaffer (Member # 1204) on 02-07-2007, 08:42 PM:
You need something like the AJA HD10A, if you have at least analog component output at 720p or higher.
If your video device has DVI, it also works on lower resolutions as the TI engine accepts 480p, but those converters dont't. They want at least 720p. I am sure there are standard resolution a/d converters out there which give you DVI or SDI outputs, but I haven't used any. We always use the AJA in such situations.

The Xbox360 can do 1080i and even has a 1080p setting. The Wii can do 480p. Not sure what 420p is. Maybe that resolution is for mentally disabled children? I bet it is.
Posted by Tristan Lane (Member # 1169) on 02-08-2007, 02:12 AM:
420p is the super-secret THX, Super High Definition resolution that MS came up with to sell more xboxes...........actually it was a typo.
I know XBOX has the settings to go to higher resolutions, but many av forums and sites state that current limitations of component video keep it from passing anything higher than 720P. I feel that this is a more desirable resolution than 1080i, but that debate could go on forever.
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 02-08-2007, 03:49 AM:
Component video can do 1080i. The people on whatever forums you are reading are idiots and should be disemboweled for all to see. That would be a good thing as it is quite obvious that they have forsaken their right to live. Component video can do 1080p as well, it's just that manufacturers aren't allowing it on their component inputs.
720p really isn't much over 480p. 720p should be called MDTV, for "Medium Definition".
