Word on the wires is that Ana Nicole Smith — the buxom former Playboy model, occasional actress and singer, reality-television star, diet-pill peddler and, arguably most famously, the wife of billionaire oil baron J. Howard Marsh — has died.

From CNN:

Reality TV star and former model Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being taken to a Florida hospital after being found unconscious in her hotel room, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case told CNN.

Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel and was taken to a local hospital, according to news reports.

TMZ.com had reported that Smith collapsed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood just after 2 p.m. ET.

Ms. Smith’s lawyer, Ron Rale, confirmed some of the details to The Asssociated Press, saying that Ms. Smith collapsed and was found unresponsive at the Seminole Hotel before being rushed to the hospital.

The entertainment news Web site TMZ.com also said it had confirmation of details from Mr. Rale, described “desperate attempts” to save Ms. Nicole’s life by paramedics — including CPR and “emergency intubation” — on the way to the hospital, but to no avail.

Ms. Smith had weathered some difficult times of late, including a tempestuous struggle in the United States Supreme Court for access to her deceased husband’s fortune, the death in September of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Wayne Smith, a pending paternity suit over her infant daughter, and just this week, being named in a class-action lawsuit against TrimSpa, the diet-pill company for which she was a spokeswoman. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading.

We’ll update you as more news develops…

UPDATE: Seminole County police, in a press conference unfolding right now, that Ms. Nicole’s personal nurse called the hotel operator, who then called 911, at 1:38 p.m. Law enforcement and paramedics responded to a call for medical assistance at to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, a police spokesman said, at 1:45 p.m.

A body guard administered C.P.R., the spokesman said. At 2:49 p.m., police were informed by hospital personnel that Ms. Smith had died. It’s unclear if this was the official time of death, or just when police were informed.

There was no immediate information on why Ms. Smith had a nurse with her.

Anna Nicole used to rub me the wrong way, but all that changed after hearing of the loss of her child last year. I felt only compassion and sorrow for her as I knew exactly what she was going through. All the rest was insignificant.

On hearing this news today, I am deeply saddened. She was still young.

Pretty messed up news. I really feel sorry for her infant child.

There's also little doubt the resulting legal fight over Smith's estate will be a far more obscene display than Anna Nicole's most notoriously bloated moment's on that E! reality TV show.

I'm saddened too.

People are so cruel, and there's already posts everywhere around the internet about how "the meth hag is now in a worse place"- Its quite disgusting.

In all reality, the heart is a powerful thing. I've witnessed the deaths of loved ones who had broken hearts, and I think this is a clear example of such a case.

I may be in the minority on this, but I just don't have much sympathy for her. I mean, I didn't want her to die or anything, but she chose a low life style. She took advantage of an old man for his money; the fact that he was rich doesn't make it any more right. She took drugs, which I do feel is OK as a personal choice has an adult, but she probably did drugs (and other poor behavior) in front of her son. So, he grows up from a young age thinking drugs are OK; then he OD's. I felt she was indirectly responsible for his death. As I said, I didn't hate her, or even dislike her, but it was a sad end to a sad life (for two people.) She had a sort of career. which earned some income, so she wasn't desperate for money. She could have done better for herself.

Why is it people often feel sympathy for a person who frequently mess up their life, (and others) but ignore a regular working joe who 'simply' works at a normal job every day for years, provides for his family, and doesn't complain about it?

You are right, John. I didn't approve of her behavior, either. Not one iota. But I was painfully aware of what she had been feeling of late.

Although, whether her demise was by her own hand or not... the tragedy lies in a sad young life lost, and all the potential that it held.

IMHO, Female Elvis without talent.

When someone like this dies people say "she was such a pretty girl"? If she was homely her death was less unfortunate?

Actually, her son didn't die of street drugs (ie cocaine, heroin, etc), but a lethal combination of prescription drugs I believe. There's rumors that her attorney/husband Howard K Stern may have given her son the "drugs".

I heavily suspect her attorney as well. He looks greasy and sleezy to me. First her son, now her...both died in the same way (apparently) found unconcious, alone... I will bet you that her sleezy attorney (howard stern) will continue the fight for that old mans estate citing that her young daughter deserves it, its her legacy, and as her father (yet unproven) I will watch over her trust with due diligence. Trust me. [sex]

Tim, you're cut from a better grade of cloth than she was.

I would never say that to diminish anybody's suffering but all she ever did for the world was to grow big tits and get naked and act stupid on TV.

There are plenty of stupid women with big tits whose children die every day so what makes Anna Nicole Smith's children any more important than yours?

I'm on John W's side. She chose a life of depravity... low even by HOLLYWOoD'S standards of depravity!

Well, after some thought, I have decided to rock the boat here and post my true feelings without sugar coating and with risk of making many people think I'm the devil himself.

Quite frankly, I am glad this leech is no longer here to suck out our precious oxygen. And it is a blessing for her little girl who will now have a chance to become a decent human being who makes her own money and not leech off others...children grow up exactly like the people who raised them. I am just like my mother and grandmothers, for example. I know how these gold-digging women hurt and damage families FIRST HAND. When my maternal Grandma passed away after a long, horrific and unusual illness, when I was 2, my grandpa felt very lonely and rented out a room in his huge house. This little blonde moved in who was younger than my mother (and my mom was the youngest of 4 children)and to make a long story short, got control of my grandpa, alienated him from his entire family and used up all his money. I got to grow up without my Pop-pop in my life and she never even called to tell us when he died Christmas Day (how suspicious) of 1998; my mother found out three years later by using a Mormons genealogy web site. Thanks to that woman, my mom and her brothers, who are all getting up there in age, still have to slave away for money when they could at least live a little more comfortably off the money their parents worked so hard to make for their family. That is what gold diggers, like Anna Nicole, do to people. I think maggots are more respectable creatures. And I can't believe all the attention the media gives her. We have actors and actress', Frances Langford, for example, die every day...people who touched millions...and never hear this much, if anything, about them on the news.

I do not believe in heaven and hell but I'll pretend, for argument's sake, to think along a traditional line for the moment and let me tell you, Anna Nicole is burning away in hell as we speak. Too bad she had to go to her firey eternity so soon.
And what an awful life that poor little dear had. Living of other families hard earned fortunes. I have no idea why ANYONE would not feel sorry for her...pardon my sarcasm.
I love how whenever somebody dies, wheater they be Adolf Hitler or Mother Teresa, everybody speaks of them as tho they were a saint....let's get real, folks, and call a spade a spade.

So, if your mother would have died when you were 5 months old, you would have been a better human being than you are? Obviously something is wrong with you and your upbringing if you talk that way about a person and their young child who will now grow up without a mother. Anna was not talented as an actress, singer, or really anything that I can think of...but to take motherhood away from her after she dies is just wrong. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, now crawl back under the rock from which you came you piece of [bs]

True, but what made the Lacey Peterson story hot? She wasn't a celebrity. Just one more missing white female, why her? I would love to be the person in the news room that says "hmmm, lets make this the story of the year!" even though it really pertains to none of us.
My mantra to news stories: if your annoyed with it, TURN THE TV OFF!
Who was the Playmate that was murdered by her ex husband in the 80's? That guy reminds me of Anna Smith's attorney/friend/whatever. ewwwww. Too bad someone didn't force her into getting proper help, even though everyone knew she had some sort of pill problem. I think thats the saddest thing about this story.

Hahahaha. It always interests me greatly when I hear someone defending some "controversial" thing that has been condemned, by the opinion, of another. Makes me wonder what skeletons they have in their closet...not that I really give a damn. And my mother never acted the way that woman did. She worked hard to make money and taught me the value of hard work, honesty and kindness. She did not make fame or fortune giving some senile, 90 year old man a BJ now and then just so she could take him and his family for all he was worth. Actually, when she first had the baby girl and no one had any idea she would die, I could not make up my mind which idea frightened me more...Anna Nicole Smith rasing children or Michael Jackson raising children.(and please, no one start a Michael Jackson debate...that is not my intention). I guess you should actually be happy, Frank; Anna Nicole is now at The Pearly Gates with her true, 90 year old love. Cause there is no money in Heaven and we all know she was with him for love, not money...ha.

I guess I could make a point of what a classy and mature person you are by mentioning both the remark you made about me and how you cannot handle another person's opinion but why waste my energy...your post speaks for its self VERY well.

You're thinking of Dorothy Stratton. I was reminded of her as well when all this happened. As far as her pill problem goes, apparently is was more lucrative to turn that into a reality show than actually getting her help.

With that attorney involved, this story may get even wierder before it goes away.

My Dad died when I was 17. He was a severe alcoholic. He treated us pretty shabbily. I won't belabor the details.

Several months after the funeral I had a chance to talk to the doctor who signed my father's death certificate. (This was back in the day when there was still such a thing as a "Family Doctor". [Roll Eyes] )

We talked about my father's death and the last thing he said was, "You're better off this way."

Well, I stormed out of the office, muttering and cussing to myself the whole way. I had a half a mind to slug the bastard, right then and there!

It wasn't until about 10 years later that I realized just how RIGHT that doctor was!

There are times when I think how much better off I would be if he only died 10 years earlier... or, better yet, if he hadn't been an alcoholic at all.

Even though Tony said it in a "less than tactful" way, I believe his main message has a lot of truth in it. Anna Nicole Smith HAS done a lot of things to hurt her children in a very long lasting way. If she couldn't (or wouldn't) clean up her act for the sake of her children, maybe it IS better that she isn't around them at all.

They are hard words to hear but, maybe the kids ARE better off this way.

One thing about me is that I don't lie or sugar coat words. If I say anything, I speak my mind. Thats how I was raised. I never asked anyone to agree with me and I never asked for anyone to condemn me. Thanks, Randy for seeing my point of veiw. I never wished anyone dead or harm, I just stated that I think (in MY opinion) this world need lose no sleep and is maybe better off without someone like Anna Nicole. I will not spread my personal information on here but there is a close member of my immediate family that I reaslize, although it is sad, that myself and two other members of my family are much better off since he passed.
Sorry to anger so many....

I want to chime in here:

A good friend of mine had a drug addicted, hippie mother and he was taken away from her when he was nine months old by the state. Luckily for him his grandparents took him in and grew up to be pretty decent guy (I think anyways).

He was better off and he thanks God everyday for the things in his life.

Everything happens for a reason.

Actually, I kind of get the opposite sort of vibe.

When I hear someone get up on a soap box talk in a very judgmental way about someone they never personally met, I wonder what skeletons they have in their own closet.

I get the biggest laughs when some "televangelist" gets found out for doing all sorts of naughty things. It's especially funny when that person was campaigning from the pulpit against those same naughty things. It's that old "guilty dog barks the loudest" thing.

Who in this forum (or anywhere) leads an absolutely sin free life? People are better off concerning themselves about how decent a person they are and areas where they need to improve rather than wasting their time pointing a finger of judgment at someone else. Our society loves getting off on the American-style sport-porn of being judgmental against other people. It's an ignorant weakness similar to bigotry. We're all prone to it. And it's just plain tacky, unflattering, bad manners on a basic level.

From a practical point of view, what's the point in pissing all over her grave now that Anna-Nicole is dead? It's not like she's going to hear any of it. It's not like she's going to be able to change for the better over it. She's dead. Might as well yell flaming attacks a brick wall.

Anna Nicole Smith was no saint. I don't think she was a good mother or even a good person. My guess is she was a dim-witted person who had no real friends or no real support system. She was surrounded by parasites. I think the same is true of Michael Jackson. Again, insulated and cut off from the world by a bunch of parasites. That weird and sad situation is part of what gets the general public fascinated by such famous celebrity train wrecks.

The latest news seems to suggest there were no obvious signs of drug overdose, despite the cornucopia of prescription drugs found in the room. Witnesses say she had a high fever, possibly from the flu. With her son's death still a recent thing and all the ongoing legal battles happening, severe depression had to be a factor as well. Good luck surviving that if you have no real friends and no real emotional support that comes from friends.

While I feel bad for her during her son's death. I don't feel sorry for her other than the cursory symnpathy one feels when a stranger dies. I don't take any joy in her death regardless of what I am about to say. But let's face it. She used others and got used in the end completing that circle of deceit. She couldn't wait for the old geezer to die. And now she is dead. Life goes on.

She was no poor misunderstood soul. She was a very selfish woman.
At least if she spent her life in a wild way living life to the fullest in whatever way she damn pleased, I would feel a little good bout her despite her many flaws. I mean, a lot of celebs have flaws. BUt she was just a lazy golddigging woman. She was just a druggie whore who married a rich guy for money and wasn't even a good one at that considering reports that she barely gave him a handjob once(what did he ejaculate - powder?).

And unlike Marilyn who at least had some movie roles, what thehell is this woman famous for? An eons ago playboy layout? Even Paris Hilton has accomplished more on her own. Anna Nicole was more famous for marrying an old man whose son was too old for her , and for starring in a craptacular reality show that made Paris seem classy by comparison.

I can understand the non stop coverage on channels like E. But for CNN and FoxNews to actually have stuff like showing an empty podium waiting for an announcment about her autopsy was a little too much. It would have been OK if they had a half hour entertainment related piece on her death.

Heh.

The coverage by FOX News was/is laughable. At one point the "reporter" was interviewing the doctor who performed the autopsy. He made his statement, which was basically that there were no outward signs of any kind of foul play. Well hell, that's no story, so the "reporter" starting asking about each of Ms. Smith's major internal organs: "How did her heart look?" Presumably they went down a long list that might have included the spleen, kidneys, etc. I don't know because I changed the channel at that point.

Anna Nicole Smith's public life was a spectacle and she made herself fair game for criticism. Now that she's dead and given the tragic last six months for her after the death of her son etc, what is the point in spitting on her?

And none of us knows what was going on in her private life and that includes her relationship with the geezer, Howard K. Stern, her now-deceased son, and her infant daughter.

The latest thing is the parasites in the press pouring over what Anna-Nicole had in the refrigerator at her own home (a bunch of cans of Slim-Fast and some Methadone). Ooh, whoopie!

Find any friggin' bachelor in the United States and examine the contents of his refrigerator. It's the whole Fight Club ethic happenin': "how embarrassing. a refrigerator full of condiments and no food."

Whoopie doo. Who gives a rat's ass? There's a lot more important shit to report than this crap.

Just this week, here in my town only a couple or so blocks away from where I live, we had a gang shootout in broad daylight. One guy was killed less than 100 yards away from Lawton High School. The shooter still remains at large despite a couple of his hommies being arrested. Residents of the city are on edge about the spike in gang violence in recent months, especially with a "south of the border" element adding to it lately.

In the bigger scheme of things, this whole media fascination about the death of Anna-Nicole is a side show away from more important events.

Well, considering Vietnam and Ms. Fonda's career height were 40-45 years ago, I think that era, including her, are pretty hard for any of us currently living not to know . Heck I think we all ether lived thru it ourselves or had a parent, grandparent or sibling who did. My parents were thru it all. My grandparents (all born between 1901 and 1922) had a large part in my upbringing and from listening to them and looking at their things, I feel as tho the WWII and surrounding eras were as much a part of my life as it was in theirs and I was born in the 1980s. I even had an adoptive grandma who worked as a projectionist for the military in WWII. Hell, I feel more comfortable driving around listening to The Andrews Sisters than I do the garbage most people listen to these days. Conservatively speaking, I think it takes at least 80 years for historic events not to have a direct (key word there) impact on our lives.

And I was thinking we should elect you, Frank, to start all further "such and one is dead" posts, including that Jane Fonda post, so you can inform us all what opinions we are allowed to have and not have and we just will not be allowed to post if we don't agree with you. For the record, if you think we should post positive feelings about Ms. Fonda when the time comes, I'll gladly partake [Wink]

But lets not go and kill Ms. Fonda or anyone else by talking any further about death posts. I'm sure they would thank us. [Smile]

I was working in Century City (Los Angeles) Thursday night. I turned on the TV in time for the local, 11:00 news on the CBS affiliate. They spent no less than FIFTEEN MINUTES on Anna Nicole Smith before talking about anything else! They even did man-on-the-street interviews, asking people at a local gas station to express their thoughts on her death. Apparently, her reality show on E! was such a hit that average people considered her to be a part of their lives. It was an eye-opener for me. The celebrity-worship culture in America (and especially Southern California) is frustrating, especially when people are so concerned about a person who contributed so little value to the world while she was here.

I think that was Dorothy Stratten. Portrayed in Star80 by Mariel Hemingway. I wouldn't compared her and her psycho boyfriend with Anna Nicole and Howard K. Dorothy was a sweetheart and Anna Nicole had nothing on her in looks and character. And Howard K is a creep but not psycho. He seemed to do with Anna Nicole what Anna Nicole did with the old guy.

Good one, RANDY! [Big Grin] [beer] [thumbsup]

But I recently saw Fonda in the news again attending an Iraq war demonstration.

Gosh Randy, from your post, I can't tell if you're into necrophilia and/or just quoting Ted Turner... [Shrug] [Razz]

[Big Grin] Ted Turner... Good one! [Big Grin]

I DID use past tense. Didn't I?

For Jane Fonda or anybody else, I don't care what their opinions are so long as they don't try to use their celebrity status to advance their opinions over those of others.

All Jane did was star in a few movies and get naked. That's just about the same thing Anna Nicole did only she didn't bother trying to get into movies first. She just got naked. [Roll Eyes]

The thing that really peaves me off is that those people's problems are made more important than Tim's or Tony's or mine or anybody else's just because they are celebrities.

Sure! They've got a right to their problems. They can talk about their problems just like anybody. To be honest, it sometimes IS fun to hear about the lives of stars. It helps distract attention away from the things that make me feel unhappy for a little while.

But, again! Their problems aren't any more important than mine... Unless she came over to my house and got naked! [sex]
I'd listen to her bitch and moan all night long if she did that!
[Big Grin]

That's probably not true. I think if you happen to agree with the "celebrity" in question, you don't mind when he/she uses his/her popularity to bring his/her opinion across. But those celebrities which happen to support an opinion other than your own make you angry because their voice is heard louder than yours.

Do you think German artists such as Marlene Dietrich or Ernst Lubitsch (who may not have been that "popular" as a person, but who directed the extremely popular and biting satire "To Be Or Not To Be") were "wrong" when they used their popular influence against the NS regime? I don't. I think they were great persons for protesting in the ways available to them against a regime they did not agree with instead of just leaning back and maybe making more money in mindless entertainment.

And it doesn't matter here who is voicing whatever opinion in whatever situation. What counts is that in some situations, people can do that, and in some they can't. I think you should never resent anybody for voicing their opinions publically, in whatever form, whether you agree with them or not, because there were - and still are - a lot of situations in which people, no matter how popular or not, were not allowed to do that. And we all know what that leads to.

I also thought that picture of the contents of her refrigerator was lame.

I couldn't help but notice that any potential fathers associated with her would probably run away as soon as she had a baby. This has to be one of the first cases where guys are coming *out* of the woodwork to claim to be the father.

Charlton Heston can say, "You can have my gun when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands!" but I don't think it would be right to tell you that YOU should or shouldn't have a gun in your house. That's your right to decide.

If he said something like that I would disagree with him too.

As the the question of Marlene Deitrich fighting against the Nazis. When all other dissenting opinions are suppressed by the regime the ONLY ones that can speak out are celebrities because they are above the consequences. The Nazi regime wouldn't DARE touch somebody like Deitrich or else they would expose themselves for what they are.

Anna Nicole Smiths boobs?

OK, Adam!

It was with great sadness to hear about the death of one of the silver screen's most promising actresses. The Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences has missed an opportunity to honor her in the future for a lifetime achievement award (like most screen greats, the members usually overlook these actors until they are on death's door).

Who could forget her subtle comedic turn as Tanya Peters in THE NAKED GUN 33 1/3? Or the tragic yet touching Za Za in the Coen Brothers' HUDSUCKER PROXY? (Well, I could, but a quick search on IMDB helped refresh my memory).

Who knows what great screen roles or charitable causes lay in her (and our) future? True, she wasn't up there with Mamie Van Doren or Pia Zadora, but who could be?

Anna, R.I.P.

If somebody opens Anna Nicole Smith's casket 100 years from now will they find anything but two large sacks of silicone, a pair of lip shaped silicone blobs and some bone dust?

Sick-in-the-head, inquiring minds want to know! [Wink]

Just had to get something out one of those old boxes in the attic...that May 1992 issue!

As to the "pulling to" aspect...old issues of Playboy won't gain monetary value if the pages are stuck together!

Hey, I think I got that issue. I wonder if I keep it 20 years, will it's value go up more than inflation?

It might, if anyone still gives a crap about Anna Nicole Smith in 20 years (which they might, because the legal wrangling will probably go on for at least that long).

[scratching head thoughtfully] I wonder if magazines will still be around in 20 years...

Some of my early memories of jerking off were to the movie Skyscraper. I hate to hear of anyone dying so young, but it is not a great loss to humanity.

Skyscraper? The sex scenes were so brief, you had to be one fast finisher. Unless you downloaded that clip, and put it on repeat in your WMV player.
