Spider-Man is swinging his way to the Great White Way.

A Broadway musical based on the web-slinging superhero is in the works, Marvel Studios said Friday. It will be directed by Tony winner Julie Taymor with new music and lyrics by U2 frontman Bono and guitarist The Edge.

The musical will be the first time a Marvel Comics character has been the subject of a show on Broadway, the company said. No opening date was announced, but Marvel said a reading would take place this summer.

"We are certain this project will delight fans of Spider-Man and new audiences alike," said David Maisel, chairman of Marvel Studios, in a statement.

"Spider-Man 3," starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, will be released May 4 by Columbia Pictures.

"Marvel continues to look to every entertainment medium to support the enduring popularity of our Super Heroes, and we are thrilled with the talent on board," Maisel said. "The all-star creative team led by Julie Taymor, Bono and The Edge is second to none."

Taymor won Tony Awards for her roles as director and costume designer of the Broadway hit "The Lion King."

Cool, after Spidey has a fight with (insert girlfriend's name here, I can't remember it), he can step to the front of the stage and sing "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

And at the end of the play he can swing thru the tall buildings to the strains of "It's a Beautiful Day."

If you think this is bad:
I was helping clean an auditorium yesterday and we've got the dreaded movietunes. When I walked in the auditorium, it finished some song then the announcer said that it was from the Broadway musical of "Legally Blonde."

I have noticed that almost every U2 song sounds the same. Therefore they suck. I don't know why popular culture looks upon Bono as some sort of world leader or something.

My friend and I use to joke that Bono's motto should be "Save The World, Eat A Potato"

I'm a sucker for U2. Especially U2 + Brian Eno (the Passengers Soundtrack mainly). I can safely say I probably wouldn't go see the musical, but better him doing it than Boy George.

Yes, but I think there are two distinctive eras in U2's history. The first would be the Rattle and Hum era (when they were at their best). The second would be following whatever Batman movie it was that they did Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me.

As for Bono, he pretty much went off the deep end sometime in the early 90's and it shows almost everytime he speaks in public. Remember the time he gave Pope John Paul II his sun glasses [Confused]
