One of our regular customers recently acquired two prints.
One is of Laurel and Hardy in "Tit for Tat". It is scratch free, splice free and not at all brittle. Has variable density sound track plays faultlessy. No vinegar smell.

The other is the Three Stooges in "Slap Happy Sleuths". In generally pretty good condition, has 6 very secure well made glue splices, no torn perfs and appears to be complete, has Screen Gems logo on head. Has some very light base side scratches. Not brittle, no vinegar scent. Plays well.

Do they have any value? Nothing to speak of on EBay
Saleable?

Tell your friend to go to a 16mm collector's site like 16mm Film Talk for advice on those prints.

I haven't been around 16mm stuff for 15 years or more, I guess. Back then, though, Stooges were going for $65-$75 for average prints.

Speaking of which... I used to work for the Fox television affiliate in Lexington, KY. They had the Stooges package in 16mm right when everything switched to U-matic. The distributor told them they didn't want the prints back and to "get rid" of them. I tried my damnedest to talk the film director into letting me "destroy" them for him. I promised I'd get rid of them but good, to no avail! [Frown]

Yea, go on eBone and goto the "DVD and Movies" section, then head to the "film" section, the "16mm" section and you'll see prices that blows the mind away on some 16mm prints and features.

I managed to tag a couple of features for less than 20 bucks still in good condition, but unfortunately, Eastman prints that has began the soft fade..but no Vinegar smell.

"the 3 Stooges" and "Laurel and Hardy"-(which L&H were mainly those Blackhawk Film releases) still garnish a pretty decent price.

(Yea Tim - your story reminds me of a friend of mine (back in the mid 60's) who was an absolute film idiot: He'd go down to the local TV station, in the middle of the night and raid their back trash dumpsters for film that was tossed out each day...and it was amazing on what they threw out to where now that stuff that he still has is worth gold now. But, a couple of years later, that station caught on that their dumpsters were being raided, thus all of that film was shredded before being tossed away... [Frown]
