We used to be 64 miles from the closest traffic light and about two years ago they put one on US 550 in Ridgway, about 35 miles away. Anyone out there in BugFukAfgan or further away from one of these icons of civilization?

Jim, are you sure? I seem to remember there is a light down by "the" gas station in Telluride on the way to the airport a few miles away from you?

I am 2 miles away from the nearest light.

No traffic lights in Telluride and with the recent advent of roundabouts here there probably won't be any in this county for many years to come.

The nearest traffic lights to me 45 miles from here, in Miles City.

I do wish we had some on our Main Street though. Tourists who somehow cannot comprehend stop signs regularly cruise right through the two main intersections.

The closest one is several hundred feet from where I'm sitting. There are a total of 7 within a half mile radius of here (just checked it using a street map).

1/2 mile from my house to the first of what seems like thousands. They have gone absolutely insane here with traffic lights. Controlled left turns are the norm even when there is no oposing traffic.

I have a set on the main road the next Block over, complete with Automatic Car Photograph service (Speed/Revenue Camera) Oops [Eek!] should had said "Safety Camera".

And yes they are going Digital as well and will bring in a extra £120m in revenue in Fines!

Well if you don't, then how come I'm always stuck behind some lolly-gagging soccer mom when I'm in Utah?

As for me, I just moved to San Francisco, there's a light one block away. Three liquor stores and a 24-hour doughnut shop too!

For insurance purposes a neighbor stuck an old hydrant in the ground to be located within 1000 feet. The gig fell apart when the local VFD was out testing hydrants. Its still there laying in the woods.

4 blocks, but Yuma puts a light in anywhere it can. You can't go down 4th Avenue (our main drag) more than 6 blocks with passing through one. We even have traffic lights blinking yellow (as a caution, you know) that will continue to blink yellow for another 12 months while the city runs traffic tests and decides what the best timing will be...

Probably an illegal alien mom driving slow to avoid getting caught.... They are a drivers nuisance! In Utah its the old I'm going to be first to my destination attitude that all normal drivers follow.

In my Alaska days, I once lived 300 miles from the nearest traffic light.

And it was impossible to drive to from there.

Manhole= 100 feet
Fire hydrant = 150 feet
stop light = 1500 feet
all give or take a few feet.

Manhole--In front of my house
Hydrant--Across the street.
Traffic Light-- 200 yards from me at the intersection of my street and the main drag thru West Asheville. Traffic backs up regularly.

OTOH, A few weeks ago we had some BAD wind storms that caused many power outages, including my neighborhood. All of the traffic lights were out along the main drag. Traffic has never flowed more smoothly. Sometimes I wish they were all gone.

Hydrant - At the corner of our block, about 250 feet from the house.

Manhole - Not sure but I think there's one in the alley next to our back yard.
