My high school had a debate team, but I didn't like the idea of its existence so I let them know. The high school no longer has a debate team.

I was a member of the JEB Stuart High School Debate Team, Fairfax County, VA, in 1963-64. I'd be glad to argue for the de-existence of Joe anytime. Can we do a poll?

I dont know about the debate team, but its easy to figure out the 2 or 3 guys who went to Calculus camp during the summer instead of the beach. [Razz]

Mark passed (by) Calculus 7th grade...whos camp was much more fun than the beach.

I wasn't on the debate team...way too busy with other activities...basketball, live-theatre, photography (editor of the school paper/yearbook in JrHS)...and then showing movies which lead to a career.

For a semester in high school, I think it was my sophomore year. It helped a lot with my public speaking, I was so shy back in the day. [uhoh]

Steve... I was also on the yearbook... both Jr hi and H.S. but as photographer. I was able to attend some functions that students could not go to because of that... interesting sometimes to know what the teachers planning ahead of time. We had a much sexier editor than your yearbook though she was a cutie and many years later as a circuit court judge let me out of a speeding ticket... she winked at me as I left the stand! The movie thing also started for me when I was a sophmore... when I worked at the Oceana Beach Club in Pentwater, MI., At night I rowed across Pentwater Lake and was trained at the theater to run 35mm, pair of Standards. I then subbed for their projectionist when he needed time off as he was working there 7 days a week. So in a sense I guess I did relief duty then. Ahh, the good ole days...

Mark...I wasn't editor-in-chief...was the Photography Editor...which also meant I was the photographer. It helped a great deal that I had a darkroom and could attend a funciton, develop the negs...select what was needed for the paper and come to class the next day with the picture(s) needed. Back then...there was another step...you had to send them out for half-toning so they could be placed on the layout. My HS could do the halftoning in-house...not so in the JrHS...about all they had was a darkroom and a really good Bessler enlarger...that was used for photography classes so one couldn't count on it for the paper.

Yea, It looks like we pretty much did the same thing... I did all the darkroom stuff at home though... no darkroom at H.S. till I was a Junior and I just kept using my own d.r. anyway. My dad taught me the basics back when he ran the darkroom when he was a local cop.... I think I was about 7 then and it was all 4X5 b&w!! Gruesome photos for the most part.... No Safety Glass back then in Autos [Eek!]

I was on the speech team and the constitution team. I guess that puts me in the ranks of geek.

I am okay with that, because the "cool kids" are all strippers or flippin' burgers! [fu]
