According to "the-numbers.com" the release date for the 7th and final Potter film will be on 12/31/10. Should be an interesting evening.....hordes of people taking their kids to the movies in the midst of all the drunk drivers.

The 6th movie will be out 11/21 of next year, so it's a full 25 months between that installment and the final one, the longest gap in the series. Might be a good thing.

Why in the world would they be giving up a lucrative Christmas break to open a movie with large children's appeal at the end of the usual holiday season?

Not having read the books and knowing the actors ages, wouldn't that conflict with things though? I think the lead actor would be 21 or 22 or thereabouts when the last one is done. Does Harry potter age in the books? By that time Daniel Radcliffe should be man enough to grow a porn star moustache.

Yeah and how old was Judy Garland when she played Dorothy in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz? Not being of the age of the character is nothing new.

In more recent times..(well 27 years ago)...remember the move FAME? Look up how old Maureen Teefy was when she played Doris Finsucker (hint...she wasn't in High School any longer).

I stopped reading the books at the beginning of the third but I think each book they are a year older (new school year). Although the actors have aged a little more than the books it isn't that far off.

She sure had me fooled. Most of the principals in Grease were well into their 20s when that picture was made. Olivia Newton-John was almost 30, and Stockard Channing was 34!

Some people simply don't look their age

The only difference with the Potter show is we're starting with children to begin with -- no one knows how they will age in real life.

Yeah, they're supposed to be 15 or 16 in part 5, I believe they're all 17 almost 18 right now. A lot will depend on when they shoot it. Just because they're planning 25 months between 6 and 7 doesn't mean they'll wait until the last minute to shoot 7.

In any event I have to agree with Paul, unless December 31st is in referrence to some plot point in book 7 (don't tell me, I don't want spoilers ) it really makes no sense as a release date.

Well they'll undoubtedly move it up. This year several movies have been inched up a couple of days, by 2010 moves of two or three weeks will probably be common. To combat piracy, most likely.
