Hard to believe but it has been 45 years since the October 5, 1962 world premiere of Bond ... James Bond... in Dr. No in London England.
Dr. No did not get a release in the US until 7 months later when it first opened stateside on May 8, 1963. (Its original US release date in 1962 was postponed due to the Cuban missile crisis). When finally released, UA really did not seem to know what to do with the picture. It did not play in a lot of areas particularly small towns. It ended up being dumped into drive-ins - often on a double bill with "Jack The Giant Killer" (I assumed that many thought it was a science fiction picture because of the advertisment of Dr No in the spacesuit)- where depending on the drive-in sometimes Jack was advertised as the first feature and Dr No was the second feature and sometimes it was the other way around.
