Was perusing the Orlando Sentinel site today and spotted a news item saying Ellen Degeneres has decided to pass on starring in a remake of "Oh, God!" because she didn't like the script. She says, "I don't want to play God and do it the wrong way."

I think that's great news. I think Degeneres is a great comic, but this is one of those movies that just should not be remade. It's a great film. How do you improve on George Burns?

Then there is the "State of The Industry". A major film company owns the rights to "Oh God" and would rather remake that than invest in new original ideas...assuming these exist anymore, and if they did the current film executives wouldn't know one if it bit them in the ass.

Well, true, but give it a month and they'll find someone to replace her. File Oh God! with movies like The Day The Earth Stood Still, Psycho, King Kong, The Pink Panther, etc etc.

What about Ellen's mega-hit movie "Mr. Wrong" which also featured world-renowned sensation Bill Pullman? Best movie ever made? Perhaps so.

Allison - you've got a point, considering she bowed out because she didn't like the script...NOT because it just shouldn't be made.

I wish this could be filed with the "Green Acres" movie that was proposed a few years ago. Bette Midler was going to play Lisa Douglas. What a disaster that would have been.

I am dreading the remake of "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three," one of the best thrillers of the 1970s. John Travolta is going to play the bad guy. It was Robert Shaw in the original...how the hell can Travolta hope to improve on him?

Also: In today's IME it says that Sly Stallone is thinking about directing/starring in a remake of "Death Wish," the Charles Bronson movie. [puke]

Green Acres might have done well down here in Kentucky. For many years, the Beverly Hillbillies movie was all-time number one for the state. (I hope that's not still true.) Louis
