MTV.... I don't even get that... I guess I would have to get that "Extras Package" from Co $49.95 extras package from Comcast to get that channel.....

Floyd - what's the big deal? MTV isn't included in our "basic" cable package here either, you have to get the expanded basic.

Not that I care. I can't stand to watch anything on MTV for more than a few minutes. Too many fast cuts; too much shaky cam; too many commercials; too much blatant stupidity.

I might start watching if there is a bunch of scantily clad women on the screen, but within minutes, one of the above listed turnoffs occurs and I'm grabbing the remote again.

Its not the state although I admit the state of mind here is at least 50% stranger than elsewhere... its really the basic cable I have here... I watch VERY little... almost no commercial television.

I just got MTV back and I'd hadn't seen any of shows in quite a while... so far Parental Control seems pretty funny though.

I haven't watched MTV since Beavis and Butthead left.
In Lubbock, one must be in the digital tier of cable to receive the actual VIDEO channels, which includes some programmed by MTV networks. They must not do very well as I got to witness one of the VH1 networks get deactivated while I was on digital cable.

Are we talking about new MTV shows, or older one. My fav's of all time were:

Sifl and Ollie
Liquid Television
The first 4 seasons of The Real World

I have a huge soft spot for old MTV commercials. Especially those featuring Toby Huss as Poop Stewart, Cobalt and Frank Sinatra haha. Jimmie the Cab Driver is up there as well.

Parental Control is alright, it just seems a bit to scripted for me, and Next is full of superficial "uppity" people. I remember the good old days of head banger's ball with ricky rackman, and remote control. I dunno, I guess I really just miss the days when it was Music Television, now it's just eMpTy V.

The only thing I liked on MTV were the music videos, circa 1980's. Now, I don't even consider watching MTV, let alone, waste a second on it.

Music Television.

It began as a cable channel that showed music videos all the time--essentially a TV version of a top-40 radio station. Sometime in the early 1990s, they decided that their viewers really wanted to see crappy original programming instead and they started to produce their own shows, most of which had little or nothing to do with music. The only decent one was Beavis and Butt-Head. The rest, well, sucked (huh huh...yeah).

Do they even still show music videos?

MTV's first game show Remote Control was very popular. And it helped launch the career of Adam Sandler.

In 1990, I was a contestant on MTV's second game show: Turn It Up! It was a youth-driven rip-off of Jeopardy! and Name That Tune. I think it aired only one season. It just didn't have the comedy of Remote Control.

I used to really enjoy MTV many years ago. But around the mid to late 1990s I stopped watching. The network overdid it on all the stupid reality shows and other crap that didn't have one damned thing to do with "Music Television." And when they actually bothered to play any music videos it was almost nothing but Britney Spears bubble gum pop or "gangsta rap" videos that glorified violence, materialism and misogyny.

VH1 has walked down the same path and turned into another output of MTV's no-music-video sludge.

You have to be in the upper tier of digital satellite service packages to get some of those same video only channels too. I just have the standard "Top 120" package from Dish Network. That just gives you MTV and VH1. At least FUSE is in there as an alternative.

I think some of the music video only channels aren't doing all that great because the entire music industry itself isn't doing well at all either. So much of the music out there is just plain SHIT. It's the same flavor of crap we've been hearing for nearly the past 20 years with just a few minor adjustments and different people singing the same sounding junk.

These days, when I want to see music videos I'm turning to the Internet more often. I can see lots of classic and new music videos on YouTube and at the web sites for most rock bands. YouTube can give exposure to bands who don't even have record deals yet. In the long run YouTube (and other similar video streaming services) could wind up disrupting a lot of the stale cultures entrenched within the music industry.

MHD, MTV's HD channel shows music videos from 3am to 10am. One big problem - they have been pretty much showing the same set of videos for the last year. A lot of second rate country stuff. Then they repeat the same old music specials in the day. Even MOJOHD when it was INHD was a better music HD channel.

I dont see why COMCAST even gives MHD any fees. They should just put their own HD music channel and save the rights fees.

VH1 has become even trashier than MTV.
