Can anyone recommend some software that will let me do this? I spent a week ripping my CD collection and when I was done I transferred it to my ipod...but then my hard drive crashed so the files on my ipod are the only ones left unless I resort to re-ripping everything again (which I really do not want to futz with).

I have a late model ipod video purchased about 6 months ago.

Get all the music you lost on LP, then transfer it from LP to MP3 [Smile]

I'm the only person under the age of 30 that does not own an MP3 player so unfortunatly I can't help.

Sadly I can't, because much of the music I have was never released in LP.

What happens when you connect it to a computer that has not been associated with another iPod? Surely it appears as an external HD and you can drag files back and forth. At least that's what I did with my iPod before I erased it and gave it away.

I don't even use Itunes at all. I hate it.
I use;
Copypod
And I have used
Vpod

But they are both free and should do what you need.

There are a bunch of others too if you just google Itunes alternatives

Also, just turn on invisible file viewing and look for the folders with the huge sizes ( i think it splits them up into a few folders) and tell iTunes to import the enclosing folder. [evil]
